Pls owner of the site start deleting this utter crap from the board, im tired of reading 500 topic x day, full of bullshit, lies, trolls, retarded complaints etc
can someone pls clean up this mess?
for jesus christ sake, why ppl need to spread so hard their misconception of the game on a forum board?
we understand a lot of haters don't like the game, just pls, stop whining and start doing something constructive.
well despite the fact that ToR is apparently crap and there so many things better than it, they dont seem to have anything better to play, instead just talk about a game they apparently hate all day.

This is posted all over the place, as well as clearly labeled on the game box. It's no wonder reading comprehension scores are down so far....
Remember GW1 opening? Seemingly endless supply of people that apparently never read the box.
But I think "read the damn box" grows a little less convincing with every year, given the advent and growing populatiry of direct downloads.

Yes, it is questionable.
If you could select GTC as a payment method WITHOUT entering a valid code immediately, then there's no issue whatsoever. You could play the 30 days you're entitled to without having to spend anything upfront. No rage. No tears.
Then, if you decide you want to carry on after your free 30 days, the onus is on YOU to buy a GTC for however long you want to continue.
Everyone got the surprise of their life this 12/22/2011 AM when they tried to log on without having a subscription plan in place. You NO longer had an account even though you already paid for 30 days when you bought the game. Guess you just forfeit those 30 days unless you agree to subscribe!!!!
Way to keep customers.
I seriously doubt this MMO will last very long with these type of practices
what are you talkign about. The only people that couldnt log in today are those that didnt add there subscription info to there account.....
Except what you have just said is many but simple.
Having two exact procedures with 2 different results? This is something want to avoid when writing your code.
In fact, there is nothing unusual going on. You go same steps, regardless whether you just purchased the game or setting up re-occurring subscription because you do exactly same thing - validating your active subscription status.
I guess for easier comprehension of the process the game could be supplied with 2 codes - one for setting up an account, the other being a regular GTC.
But I can see this solution not being favorable for couple reasons...
I agree that your point with GTC not being usable for activation is valid but again, the company is not obliged to support every payment method available. Standard business practice is CC payments. If you do not own or do not want to use CC, it is something you have to deal yourself with in the first place.

Actually, it's dead simple.
Does the customer have a pre-existing Billing Option for TOR ?
No - allow him to select GTC without entering a code, and automatically activate his 30-day GTC subscription plan, just as you would have, had he entered an actual code. (He is obviously creating a new account, else he would have an existing option)
Yes - do not allow selection of GTC as Billing method without a valid code being entered
That gives the player 1 chance to bypass the GTC code requirement, and only once. After all, he is entitled to his 30 free days, why force him to hand over cc details before he can play his free time ?
You don't have to support all the payment methods in existence, but at least FULLY support those that you do accept.

'Pre-existing billing option'? Over-complicated options varying on conditions?
See, it is not simple. In fact, current system is the most simple it can be, and that is why it is the way it is.
You might listen to what other people tell you or you can just repeat same stuff over and over pretending it will become true or real. Choice is yours.
Yes OP is flaming, just got off phone with support, and being told that I can't use something I already paid for unless I agree to pay them more in the future is quite disheartening.
Like everyone else has stated it's standard practice to make you input your CC up front, they do NOT charge it until the end of the free 30 days, you can always cancel your account before they charge it.
What I don't understand is the folks that pay 60+ bucks for a game without the intention of resubbing, seems like a waste of 60.00 bucks to play a game that you can NOT trade in, after playing for only 30 days.
Ah... do we have another "how dare BW do something exactly the same way every other MMO(including my favorite) does!!!" thread?
I wouldn't say the OP fails miserably. I'd say it fails spectacularly.
Just because everyone else does it wrong, still doesn't make it right
That's not the point of the OP. The OP isn't posted in the General topic saying, "man, I hate it when MMO's do this!". It is in the SWTOR forum, pointing its finger directly at EA/BW and making the argument directly about the game.
I'm actually not in disagreement about the practice being... at least unnecessary. But the OP is stating it as though this is something new. They even finish their rant with:
"I seriously doubt this MMO will last very long with these type of practices"
Yes. Just like EVERY OTHER MMO, which has THOSE types of practices.

Agreed, the OP is frustrated and angry and taking it out on SWTOR in a very childish way.
It could all have been avoided if the process was a little more "user-friendly" though.
Expect to see quite a few similar rage posts about the "30 free days and payment methods" in the days ahead, specially on Xmas day, when a lot of kids are going to unwrap SWTOR and expect to leap straight into the game without needing to strong-arm the cc out of Mom first...
Any fan that's only getting the game on Xmas day will have a hissy-fit if they hit their first snag in the registration process, before they've even joined a server queue, lol
Emotional people + internet = vicious and baseless slander
They all do this. I already unsubscribed due to lack of give-a-damn about this game, but I still have my first month remaining. It says so right after you unsub.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
The serial key you receive with the box is just that, a serial key. Yes, with the purchase of the game you are granted 30 days of free access, but you do have to setup a subscription (time card or credit/debit card) which is used to validate a form of payment. This is how EVERY MMO subscription has worked since 1996, nothing new here except the fact that most companies previously would not allow the use of GTCs for subscription setup.
But sadly this is all nothing more than people complaining for the sake of complaining.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
all sub based games ate like this. Why are people throwing a fit all of the sudden?
Because people have a hard time understanding that all they have to do is finalize a subscription plan, then cancel it before it renews. What was it Einstein said about the two most plentiful things in the universe again? One of them was hydrogen...

Amen.. I grow tired of all the "mightier than thou" people out there. They post crap as if they can do so much better then the professional. What happened to just enjoying a game for what it is. If half of you know so much about making a uber game, then please make it already. If not, STFU!!

I did not have to subscribe? I put in my CD key, read the information and it states, you must subscribe after your 30 days. I've had no problem.
edit!!! that was yesterday this is today...i now can't play
