You must be new to MMO's this is not how all of them work, you pay for 30 days, you play 30 days, NOT 2, then if you don't have a sub you don't have an account. Again not after 2 days of the 30 you already paid for!
Yeah but they all require you to put in payment info... always. If anything SWTOR was the exception in that you didn't for those two days. You still are getting 30 days free.. it doesn't bill you for the first time till those 30 days are up.
Guys dont be hard on the newbie, he's obivously new to the scene and didn't realise like in all AAA P2P games, "REQUIRES ACTIVE SUBSCRIPTION TO PLAY" means you need to put in your credit card/debit card/paypal info or gametimecard before you can use your account.
Unless you use gametimecard, you can always cancel within 30 days of activating your subscription and you wont be charged a dime more.
all sub based games ate like this. Why are people throwing a fit all of the sudden?
Because people have a hard time understanding that all they have to do is finalize a subscription plan, then cancel it before it renews. What was it Einstein said about the two most plentiful things in the universe again? One of them was hydrogen...
According to most recent scientific observations that would be dark matter and dark energy.
Why aren't new players immediately being instructed to set up a subscription as soon as installation is finished? That's how I'm used to subbing to games. In fact, I've been directed to the sign-up pages WHILE a game has been installing.
It just sounds like so much stupid EA buffoonery to me that they let people in to play the game without a plan set up, then take it away because a user didn't read the fine print. They're in a service-oriented business. They bloody well know that people are just raring to get in and play the fucking thing, and once they're in, they're not going to be interested in researching the administrivia associated with the account. They just want to play. Not to mention, this game is supposed to have been partially targeted at non-MMOers due to the IP itself. Wouldn't a little bit of simple forethought have been in order here on EA's part to ensure that everyone is walked through the necessary steps to ensure they can play unhindered?
Attack the unwary customer of you want, but EA could have easily bypassed this whole situation with the minutest amount of effort. But they don't really do that, do they? Looking out for their customers is the last thing they're worrying about.

Not really. At least WOW, AoC and LOTRO did not work that way. You can argue about AoC and LOTRO to be "major" MMOs but well WOW is WOW.
WoW has been this way in the past, as was AoC. Not sure about LOTRO.
Yup, WoW did this too. They only stopped that when they started letting people try the first few levels free.
I'm wondering if some of this confusion is coming from console fans of ME and DA who have never dealt with an MMO subscription before... That's a possibility I guess.
Pretty much every MMO requires you to set up a subscription before you start your first 30 free days.
Almost every mmorpg requires you to make a player account, not a payment plan, if you believe that you have not played many mmorpgs. Most mmorpgs allow you to play out of the box for the first month as long as you make an account in their system, not get on a required payment plan. Thats rediculous you even think that or would say that. Mandatory payment plans traditionally are the product of a crooked system trying to milk customers. At least in the mmo world, IF I say IF thats what is actually going on.
To all of you who keep saying that this kind of a scam is a common practice - no it is not. I have some experience with MMOs and this is the first time I've seen it. And I'm obviously not alone.
Also, if this really BECOMES to be a common practice then there is something very bad about it. Because if they do not want to bill you untile the 30 day period is over well they DO NOT NEED your credit card, not speaking about prepaid cards.
Wake up people if we let them to make us believe that this is a normal way how a paying customer shall be treated, it's really really bad news for us. If you want to be customers and not their prey stop being so sheepish.
I'm not going to give them my credit card number and I'm not going to register any prepaid card before I get my 30 days I paid for and if they want to rob me like that, well they can choke with their game and I'm done with them.
And what is the best joke guys - just check the subscription details and you can see that they do subtract from the time you bought with the game even if they blocked your account. Now THIS is something Jews call chucpe.

Apart from Eve, I haven't to date played ONE SINGLE P2P MMO that didnt require some sort of payment info when you make account...and I started with UO back in 98

Except that I know for a fact that at least two of those games required the same thing at one time. Try harder.

Eve doesn't now? I remember when I first tried it, it made me pick a subscription option before I got my first free month, after buying the client.

WoW required payment info when I created my account in 2004,
AoC and LOTRO are both F2P games...LOTRO required payment info when it was P2P.
So you're trying to make your case with two F2P games and one free trial game?
You do realise 99,9% of P2P games do it same way as swtor did so would you please stop making new accounts just to spam about same subject?
Sorry I just forgot to mention that I did play the two F2P games when they were not F2P, and for the free trial, how does it apply to this situation? I just bought the game and I had the gametime which comes with the game purchase PLUS these 10 trial days as a bonus.
As much I dislike WOW I just like the way they treat their customers.
Everyone got the surprise of their life this 12/22/2011 AM when they tried to log on without having a subscription plan in place.
First off, what's a "snaf-fu"? Do you mean "SNAFU"? Because what you just said is: Situation Normal All F*cked F*cked Up. You know, SNAFU is not some sort of martial art or talent tree in WoW's upcoming expansion. Please learn what something means before you use it improperly and spread stupidity to others over the internet.
Secondly, "surprise of their life"? Hyperbole much? Either that or someone needs to seriously get a life...
Anyway, I'm not even playing this game, but the spaz-level on these boards is off the charts and something must be done before people give themselves a brain hemorrhage! Then again, going into a coma might be an upgrade in mental capacity for some.

As far as I remember this has been the case for every major sub based MMO. Still people are complaining and call they where cheated on every new sub based MMO.

No, you are wrong. Well I don't know about WOW in 2004 since I started with it (and ended with it) this year but I did not need to enter my card number until the time I got with the game expired. I also played LOTRO before it went F2P and it was quite the same. In AoC I always used prepaid cards and also there was no problem with the time included in the game. I don't know what do you play to find this to be normal.
Just tell me why do they need your cred card number in advance?
Usually they need a subscription to play. The issue comes if they don't let you play if you cancel your subscription right after. Just enter your info and delete it, just like all other MMos make you do.

This is the same as that other 4 page subscription thread. [Mod Edit]

Actually all three of those MMOs did back when I started off in them.
AoC actually turned out to be real finicky about my sub.
