it is already getting near impossible to do group quests at lower levels. As the population moves up leveling it will get worse and worse. If you think there isn't a problem go back and create a new character. Getting groups in starting areas is becoming increasingly difficult and in the coming weeks it will get considerably worse.

yup I just created my 4th alt and its worse than ever.. even worse if you decide to roll a faction thats on the extreme lower end in terms of population... but no we must be wrong cause some others are having no issues..
Okay I might be in the minority but I think this is a GREAT thing.
LFDs are great but they really ruin the community and lead to content being worn out at a super fast rate.
so the game should make it hard as possible to find a group so you don't get worn out on content while you spend all that extra time just LFG.. lol wow sounds like a great idea there

Well yes, the flipside is true as well. I know it really sucks say if you get home really late and there is no one online at 12 am.
But from experience, I can guarantee you that LFD features are the cause of nothing but headache for both the devs and the players.
The devs have to figure out a way to prevent people from burning out. This has everything to do with the quality of the reward the LFD and dungeons offer. They also have to nerf their dungeons to make it accessible for everyone which causes whining from ahrdcores.
On the player end of the spectrum, LFD encourages anti-socialness, unneeded loot drama and all-round douchebaggery because personal accountability goes out the window with LFD.
For once I can speak with full confidence on the subject -- I played all of WotLK and saw the community change over time especially when patch 3.3 (LFD patch) was introduced. At that time I said it was great. I loved it. I was a tank my LFD queues were 1 second long and I got my rewards with minimal hassle because I was good at my game. I said the LFD feature "breathed new life into the game". That was true... but only temporarily.
Content should be run because it is fun and because you want to spend time there with your friends.. not JUST because you want to farm some tokens or gear. That cheapens and kills the content and leads to player burnout (happened in WotLK too).
Anyway, I am speaking from a CROSS-SERVER LFD point of view.
I think a server-only LFD system would be great -- especially if BW had implemented it from the start. I'd use RIFT as an example but ether their server-only LFD tool was broken or the server populations were terrible (long ass queues for Experts when I queued as tank/DPS)

Nope, people against it are in the minority but they're the most vocal so it appears that they are the majority. Casuals are the majority and they would favor a LFD as they don't have the time to sit in general w/ their thumb up their ass waiting for a grp.

I'm 100% casual and 100% against LFD tool.

people will get burnt out on content no matter what.. no game company can release content fast enough to prevent this.. so basically your argument is if it too easy to find a group it will be detremental on the community because people will not just be running group content when there firends decide to get together and have some fun? really? it's hard enough as it is to find groups in this game depending on faction and server and with companions and a solo oriented main class story yet they are making it harder by not adding a feature that worked just fine imho in other games.. in rift I loved it.. I could log in and que up for some dungeons then go finish up several dailys while I waited... only difference now is I need to spam chat to find a group and can't really quest while I'm doing it cause I'm trying to hard to put a damn group together.. I'm sorry I just don't see how this argument makes the game better in anyway.. after you do a dungeon once or twice by the third time and thereafter you are already at the point where you are only doing it for the gear drops or to help someone out so whats the difference?

We're aware of this desire, but we actually believe that finding others on the same planet as you encourages social interaction a bit more than a general 'group finder'. We're not saying it'll never, ever happen but again, not high priority right now.
My thought HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
That's what they all say, and then 4 months later they add one due to pressure from the game's community. I don't know why MMORPG developers try to emulate WoW then take this near elitist approach to so much of what makes WoW such a success.
Here is an idea... How about joining a decent sized guild to run the flashpoints with. You don't need a dang lfd tool. Interact and socialize... It's an mmo! Sometimes I wish we were still on BBS's playing L.O.R.D.

Why must one join a GUILD it shouldn't be mandatory lol sorry had to stop and laugh, it shouldn't be mandatory to be social and interact with others or mandatory to have that experience.
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

Wanting to do social content while being antisocial is kind of baffling.

its going to get bad soon as people start getting more spread out.. i was playing my shadow trying to get a group for the first flashpoint me and a friend spammed chat for an hour till we got a full group.. UNBELIEVABLE considering the game just got released, I really don't see how in hell this is better than a dungeon finder...
Reasons it's better:
1. You will eventually add people to your freind list, and eventually develop more of a social standing on your server.
2. It takes away complete anonymity, so you have to be a decent human being in parties if you ever hope to consistently get invited.
3. You will more consistently play with people you know instead of strangers, enriching the community.
At first it takes a while to meet people and find your niche. Eventually though, you will have a rich and full freind list and possibly even a guild... You will develop a server reputation. By and large it's better for the game. Sorry your instant gratification isn't satisfied, and you can no longer be a complete douchebag in parties w/o repercussions.
Sorry but anyone who thinks dungeon finders are a good option are either completely antisocial, and shouldn't even be wasting people's time in an MMO, or they are just plain lazy and refuse to take advantage of the MM aspect of MMOs. You won't have to spam LFG for long, after a few weeks of runs you *should* know plenty of people to regularly run dungeons with.
I kind of worded it wrong but what I mean't is that you shouldn't need a Guild in order to experience a socializing experience.
It isnt mandatory, but it helps a whole lot. There is a certain art to group making beyond spamming /1 LFG for xxx.
LFD certainly does not provide many social experiences. My experiences in WoW and Rift have shown that these groups rarely chat, and Ive tried to spark conversation.
I see a lot of whining and arguing, but no one is offering solutions to the problem.
The game doesn't need a LFD tool, but it could use the solutions below.
The devs are clueless. They have no idea how to bring people together to socialize. There is no main hub, and everyone is spread out, which makes it harder for people to form groups together. The fleet doesn't count. Why? Because it's such a hassle to get to it.
There is too much zoning.
Spaceport> Dock Entrance> Enter Ship> Map (3 more clicks)> Exit Ship> Exit Dock to Imperial Fleet.
Four quick solutions could help out the problem though.
Global LFG channel.
Summons at the Fleet.
Emergency Fleet Pass on a 30-60 min cooldown.
or a Quick Travel Skill to our Ship.
And don't give me that excuse: It's called emergency for a reason. They could just change the name.
A random group is a random group, no matter if it's formed through General chat or a LFD tool. The key is to keep the LFD within the server, so that when you group with a douchebag, they'll earn a bad reputation, and when you group with good and friendly people, you can add them to your friends list for future groups.
It's true that MMORPG's in genre require a time commitment, but wasting your time doing nothing while forming a group isn't something I like doing. I work the night shift, so I play between 5-9am. Not a time where there's loads of people on, but there's still plenty of people to group with, they're just scattered across different planets. A LFD tool would help me find groups during the week while the flashpoints are still within my level range.

This makes me happy. It's not needed right now. I'm not saying that there won't be a point where it'll be nice, but right now, I like the old school feeling.
it is needed i noticed very few people use the crappy LFG feature currently in the game. On top of that with all the single player story content and companions and everything I feel this game would benefit from a dungeon and heroic quest finder even more than other games.
No, it's not needed. Whether people are using the flagging system is immaterial. The fact is, people are finding groups without any issues if they really want to. They are just doing it the old-fashioned way...you know, by actually socializing, and God forbid, ASKING.
I have no doubt that eventually a LFD tool will be implemented, and probably needed, as the playerbase becomes top-loaded in terms of level. But it's silly and stupid to put it in at launch. Oh, and if this game EVER puts in something as ridiculously retarded as a heroic quest finder, I'm going to have a meltdown. The Instant Adventure system that Rift had is one of the most laughably bad embarassments ever to grace the MMO industry, and an insult to the genre. The last thing TOR needs is to become nothing more than a glorified lobby game like Rift has become.
Again, horrible, horrible idea. And I hope it never comes to pass. I realize that LFD will have to be implemented some time in the future, but I hope to God it isn't a cross-shard one. And there better never be a heroic quest queue. Anyone on the Bioware staff who even suggest that idea should be shot, ressurected, and shot again.
you obviously only play imperial.... my imperial chars have no issue finding groups while my republic I need to sit and spam chat for an hour to get a full group many times.. we could not find a tank for one flashpoint in a 4 hour session last night.. so yes there is no reason not to put in a dungeon finder and to not have anything like this is really hurting the game.
Well if you really did try 4 hrs to get a tank and wasn't able to get one than there prolly was no tank around so even with a tool you would still have had no luck of finding one.
I do not like this tools for me they take out the social part in MMOs and just destroy the fun.
Maybe i am more lay back for i played FF11 several years and therefore am used to search for pts but i also can honestly say that i never had a better community again than i had in FF11 (at least up until SE destroyed the game tho).
They should give you more options to search for specific classes lvls and such that i would love to have since its hard to find ppls if you only have a limited way of searching for them but if i could search for all Tanks/Healers/dps separately it would be all i need to get my pts going with only a lil bit of socializing

LotRO had this, a simple /join channel but another blunder imo was no server forums which really put a hamper on the server to communicate.
