This game makes me WANT to group more then any other MMO I haved played. I honestly couldn't tell you why. I had no problem finding groups.....up until around level 30. Now I pretty much have all the Heroic4 quest for Alderaan and Taris undone. I managed to crowd-control and complete the Heroic2+ with Mako but the Heroic4's...forget about it. It's been so long I could probably solo most of the Alderaan Heroic4's at this point (level 38). I'm not too downtrodden because once more people continue to level there will be more player character's my level with which to finish . At least..I hope this will happen.
Despite my infrequent frustration I still love this game. I'm even more pleased having just read the official forums and seen that the next update (and following updates) plan to address flaws in the PvP system..among other things. Bracketed level 50s to their own PvP warzones , eventual bracketing of Warzones to various level ranges and eventually updates to allow you to choose the warzone .. Valor for the PvP world Ilum. and other stuff..including non-pvp related items and fixes.
Please, enlighten me, how is this game giving me so much more reason than any other to group with people? What am I missing? And please.. don't say social points.
There are far more group quests in SWTOR than WoW and Rift combined. And no, most people can not solo a heroic 2 at level. And no one can solo a Heroic 4. While the incentive my not necessarily be there, the option at least is, which is more than one can say about the similar styled games.
Also, its more efficient to do the regular quest chains grouped.
Teak stop lying please.
InB4 I'm qouted, Rifts and all those other crazy events that be happening in rift and I'm not going to start on WoW.
In time you may be right. Also you really can't solo in SWTOR if one uses his/her companion, not saying it's the rright way to go but if no companion you'd rarely see the SPORPG or w/e...just saying.
How is it remotely a lie? Go find all the group quests in Rift and WoW not related to instances. When you call someone a liar it helps to back up your point.
And using your companion is soloing. The games solo content is designed around using your companion.
It helps to know what you are talking about before you post.
Teak I did my research before I posted currently SWTOR doesn't have more group involvment which is lying unless your not counting Rifts and the other group stuff as quests then hell state it. Just state links, me and you could say all this shit but without links it doesn't matter or concrete proof. I put group quest in same category with group involvement, which we sure as hell know that currently SWTOR doesn't have more in that regards everyone should know that you can disagree but at it's current state, in the fuuture it'll have more, shit lol.
Ok so me and my companion is soloing you are right because I could sure go on a date solo with my girlfriend, yea just me and an npc taking on a dungeon by [myself] no biggie.
Yea so like I play left for dead 2 and you know they are npcs and are considered compainions hense I'm doing this solo.
No but your right I clearly don't know what I'm talking about.
Well I did specifically state quests didnt I? Besides, 95% of rifts in Rift are entirely soloable, its just the rare majors that cant be (which is roughly 1 in 20 from my experience levelling, hence the 95%). And invasions are more or less interactionless grouping. Very, very few people say a word while doing invasions. While leveling its a mindless zerg with no strategy involved whatsoever. Rift has very little that requires real teamwork.
And if you dont understand that SWTOR is built around soloing being player + companion then yes, you clearly dont know what you are talking about. I guess if you have your pet out on a WoW hunter you arent soloing either.
Anyway, I just don't see how these 2 points would make someone quit, it's like someone returning a shirt to the store because it had a string hanging from it.
Well this comparison is pretty far off really. Cutting a string from a shirt should be a piece of cake for anyone. Fixing crafting and the GUI? Feel free to fix that at your earliest convenience when you have a bit of spare time.
And this one went way over your head apparently. The analogy is meant to be silly just like his dislike of the UI and crafting. They aren't broken and are quite usable, just not to his perfect standards which it seems no game can do.
That's true, and I will admit, my post was a bit of hyperbole.
Still though, it does take a lot more work to get a dungeon group together using just chat in SWTOR, than it would take using an LFD tool. I just don't see what's wrong with a single server LFD tool.
Once the LFD tool is in you cant really go back. im thinking they did the same thing Trion did, launch without to see how it goes since many players dont like it and the tools for group forming are available without it, just people have gotten lazy and don't use them.
Having played WoW before and after LFD I can tell you that groups were more social before it was implemented and the dungeons seemed like less of a grind, however the grind feeling could have something to do with the timing of its release being mid-wrath where dungeon grinding really took front and center as the game's content.
As a more patient player who also isnt afraid to send whispers to people I dont know I prefer no LFD. Its not remotely a gamebreaker if LFD is implemented, I would just rather the resources be used elsewhere for now. Once the Ui is up to speed and mouseover macros are added and the Legacy sytem is introduced, then they can worry about the LFD.
Also, the PvP stuff they are currently working on is a bigger concern, even though i rarely PvP.
I don't see all the issues with the UI.. stop trying to play every game the same way. Just adjust to something new. The UI works perfectly. Don't like the map at the bottom cos you're not used to that? Why not just get used to it at the bottom instead. Just seems like a refusal to adapt to me, but a simple change of attitude would solve all those problems for you. Stop trying to play it like every other MMO you've played and actually play SWTOR instead. Everyone calls WoW clone and stuff all the time at this game.. and then they want to make it even more like WoW, cos that's what they are used to... crazy.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

The UI is pretty terrible and i dont disagree with complaints against it. i think attacking criticism of it is uncalled for. there is enough hater/troll gibberish out there, but UI complaints is not among that stuff. Ui can be a major barrier for people used to having everything where their eyes are trained for it.

As far as the UI goes, I agree that it needs work. That being said, the game has not even passed its first month yet. Compared to many, MANY other MMO's that have been released the last five to ten YEARS, the problems with this game are vastly insignificant by comparison.
By all means quit if you're not happy, but to expect everything to be absolutely perfect straight out of the gate, you will continue to be immensely disappointed with any game you play.

lol, Im not a fanboy. I've cancelled my sub and stopped playing it myself. No need to be so narrowminded about why I think the UI is fine. I think it's fine because it's fine, not because I love the game. I fully believe that most MMO players need to stop being babies who ask for things to comfort them. Learn to do something new or differently so this genre doesn't have to stay the same all the time.

Sure it was different but it was also LESS. In most MMOs if I wanted the minimap at the bottom or the chat box at the top I could do that all I want, but in SWTOR there is no choice to move it. There is no options you either play it with the UI as it is or quit.
Also UI shouldn't be that different then other MMOs. It's how you control the game. Do really what Ford or BMW to change up how you control their car just becasue it would make that car different?
I will not play a game with a cash shop ever again. A dev job should be to make the game better not make me pay so it sucks less.
EQII's crafting is by far the most BORING crafting system ever created - and I've played alot of games - and is one of the reasons I quit that game. Crafting is a very important part of the game for me and of all the games to compare SWTOR's to you choose EQII? My wife used to laugh at me because I would literally fall asleep while crafting in that game it was so BORING.
SWTOR's has one of the most interesting crafting systems in a long time and while not as complex as SWG's - it's a lot of fun and the reverse engineering produces nice epic pieces. And the best part is - I can send my personal slaves...er crew to do the work for me!
Well...to be fair. There were those that enjoyed how crafting was set up at launch. I thought it was freaking insane myself but there were those that loved it.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Everyone in my guild in EQ2 just botted crafting. Thats how boring it was. I dont need a time sink minigame of smash the button for crafting, thanks.
I prefer SWTORs system where you reverse engineer to learn new stuff, and send companions to do your dirty work. Watching all 5 slaving away in the ship makes me feel like an evil sith overlord, mwahahaa.
Also yep, the harvesting skills can be raised for free in the world by harvesting yourself. And the mission skills are pretty much optional for blue / purple crafts, but not needed for leveling. Personally on my first character, I constantly sent my companions away to harvest, and never ran out of money for skills or anything the whole way to 50. Its not like crew skills are that expensive. Only thing I couldnt afford while leveling was Tier 2 or 3 speeder, which is only a 10% / 20% boost in speed anyway and I got a few days after being 50 and earning level 50 cash for quests / battlegrounds.

So TOR crafting is fine for those who dont like crafting. Glad thats settled.
Really? This game sucks and Im not having fun? Im going to unsub right now. Thanks for the tip.
I just cancelled my SWTOR subscription. I hope it doesn't come off as mean or harsh. These are, for me anyway, legitimate grievances. It's very lengthy. They asked, I provided my reasons. Let the flaming begin!
My comments to Bioware as to why I cancelled my subscription:
Actually, I love your game, at least, the Story Line, the acting, the ease of leveling. But there are a few things which are major annoyances. The first being the inability to place my quick slot bars where I want, the inability to move any panel to a place I want, and the fact that when I open a panel, and then open another panel and then a third, two panels move around on their own and one closes. I opened them for a reason; I'd like them all open. Also, I find that I've had to reset my chat rooms every time I log in, I've had to reset some of my preferences every time I log in. Basically, your HUD/UI elements were poorly designed - for me. What I would have liked is the ability to 'move' my 'target' to be in the the top center of the screen; my map to be in the top right hand corner, my chat rooms to be in my lower left - basically I want to be able to position the HUD elements myself where I want them. The fact that my character panel is tied to the bottom of the center quickslot bars as well as my target panel drive me up the wall. I really wish Bioware had taken the time to look at other MMOs; consider Lord of the Rings Online. In LOTRO, you bring up your inventory, the vault, or your character sheet, and some you can resize, all can be moved to ones favorite spot, and after you close it, it then reopens just where you left it, i.e. the window pops back in the shape and form where you just left it. Also in LOTRO, the quick slot bars can be moved wherever you want, can be horizontal or vertical, and four of the quick slot bars (the first four) are tied to the 'regular numbers', 'shift' + numbers, 'ctrl' + numbers, and 'alt' + numbers. with two other quickslot bars that you can hot key on your own. Plus the pet quick slot bar can be moved wherever you want. In SWTOR you can't even move the pet bar skills within the pet slot bar - they are stuck where SWTOR placed them.
The other major issue I have with SWTOR is crafting, which is abysmal. I only say this as I come from the Star Wars Galaxies way of crafting and every other MMO crafting system is just bad in comparison to SWG's. SWTOR is just another crafting WoW clone; not as poorly designed as the Rift crafting system, but not nearly as elegant as the LOTRO crafting system, which, let's be blunt, is yet another simplistic and mind numbingly tedious WoW clone of crafting. Also, It's very annoying that I have to 'pay' to run missions instead of being able to quest or harvest or craft EVERYTHING on my own, or have my crew do it. Yes, I understand that the gathering skills are harvestable, but the missioning skills cost coin, and at the lower levels, it's serious coin. I craft to make coin, not to spend coin.
Bottom line, all these issues are issues that I realize cannot be addressed by Bioware; you are stuck with the system you made, at least when it comes to crafting. I'm pretty sure you'd be able to remake the HUD/UI elements to moveable and somewhat resizeable, but I seriously doubt that the effort to do that is forthcoming or high on your list. So, I'm not going to play the game. I'll keep my eyes and ears open though and hopefully IF you decide to ... 'open' up the HUD/UI elements to 'dealer's choice', I will probably come back to the game. Good luck! I really loved KOTOR and KOTORII, and hope that your subscription base for SWTOR doesn't immediately halve by the end of the first three months. As I said, the story is great, questing is great, acting is great; but the HUD/UI elements for me make the game unplayable. That, and the fact that one cannot search the forums is something I find to be very untenable, and in my opinion completely unreasonable and unprofessional. Good luck, and may the Force be with you.

Not to mention reverse engineering your items. Which not only gets you some materials back but can net you recipe upgrades to make better items.

OP here; I finally got around to reading all the responses to my lengthy post. All I have to say is that the game breaker for me was the HUD/UI, and that when I can move things to the places that I look to due to muscle memory - from playing other MMOs, that is, I'll be more than happy to come back to SWTOR and give it a whirl. I really did like it as I said in my original post - but I just can't deal with the horribly designed UI. If SWTOR was car, they would have done a factory recall for something so basic as this.
Also, I've read a number of reviews (official) and most have them have given the UI a high rating, - "even thought it needs work" - which, well, I can't understand that. Even in in-game chat people have expressed their unhappiness with the UI.
As for crafting, someone briefly touched on it as well and my response to that is, yes, SWG crafting has 'ruined' me for the simple and tedious crafting systems of all modern MMOs (EVE is somewhat of an exception, but there are other external issues to 'crafting', I mean, 'industry', in EVE which makes EVE crafting down right nail-biting, heart-attack causingly frightening). The bottom line is I really like to craft, and would, eventually, get used to the SWTOR crafting system. But it's still bad. I love crafting in Lord of the Rings Online, but, as I said in the original post, LOTRO crafting is incredibly tedious and just as bad as SWTOR, although, the crafting panel in LOTRO is more elegant. But nothing (so far, and probably never to return to any MMO in the future) will beat SWG crafting.
And finally - why are the SWTOR forums not searchable? What is Bioware trying to hide?
Looking forward to seeing you in game at some point in the future. hopefully not the distant future.
