I don't get it.. if they allready have the high res settings available.. why don't they just release them and let the players mind about performance?.. if their rig can't handle it, they can turn it back down to minimum.
It's worse to advertise high res settings and not deliver them than to give them to the players and worry about performance later or something.
I know I'd rather be known as a bad programmer who tried than a liar.
To use your car analogy. It would matter to you I am betting if you are supposed to get 35 miles to a gallon of gasoline. You buy the car and get 20. Right?
If the game is unable to play High-res textures then it's the engine or infastructure of the game that is entirely at fault. If that is the case it was in beta and the engine was found to be unable to handle it - thats fine with me to remove it.
But honestly, to me the graphics are the LEAST of SWTOR problems.
It was removed in beta before the game went live. Why everyone is up at arms about this is beyond me. The game is fail on plenty of levels and the fact they removed a feature during beta isn't really among them.
Perhaps, but no one I know came to me and said... "hey, I'm buying TOR because they have HIGH REZ TEXTURES". Never heard that... not once, from anyone other then the OP and a bunch of folks that, judging from their past, are just jumping on the bandwagon and trashing the game.
My point was, for most people, which is clear from this thread, it is a NON ISSUE.
Mabye you didnt hear anyone say that
But I bet you did hear alot of people saying... "im not sure about buying this game, but i guess I will, the story looks interesting and the graphics look pretty good and its star wars so i guess Ill toss down 60 to play"
Im sure alot of people including myself would have changed their minds if we knew the "pretty good" graphics where going to turn into shit graphics shortly after launch
Come on now. We're talking about miniscule differences in textures. I've been looking at some post on the TOR forums and the differences are so damn small. Tell me people aren't blowing this a bit out of proportion.
You call this a minor detail?? Even friggin' WoW has higher resolution armor on player characters for crying out loud! A 7 year old game that was flamed to death about their bad graphics!
The graphics look pretty damn good in the cinematic cutscenes.
Also, I never have my camera zoomed in that far because it effects gameplay (can't see anything around me)
So, unless I'm taking tons of screenshots to show off my phat loots... umm... why should I care if the game is fun to play and I'm having a good time with my friends?
I mean, it's not like I couldn't edit my settings files or whatever if I really cared all that much...
You call this a minor detail?? Even friggin' WoW has higher resolution armor on player characters for crying out loud! A 7 year old game that was flamed to death about their bad graphics!
If that's how your shit looks on high, i think you need a new card dude. I run a NVID GT 430 on a 8 yrear old comp and my low setting doesn't and couldn't look like that.

I mean really folks? Really? Like I said, if it upsets some of you that much, just move on to another game.
Maybe you should put on your glasses and take another look mate... the game looks like WoW now.... that game is SEVEN YEARS OLD.
And i do intend to move on... i canceled my sub immediatly. The issue is that had i known i would have never handed over 60 bucks in the first place
"Don't mistake a fun game for a good game... Checkers is fun to play but its not exactly the highest point of gaming design... and definatly not worth $60 plus $15 a month"

You had people back in the earliest beta tests complaining about this issue, and BioWare completely ignored all complaints, but only now, close to a month after release is there a large enough outcry over this that BioWare could no longer simply ignore the issue. Overall, I think it's a pretty big deal. Most people think SW:TOR looks like crap anyway, and now players are stuck playing with muddy armor textures for the foreseeable future because one can only suppose that the game engine BioWare chose for the game simply can't handle them in regular gameplay.
For me, the issue wouldn't be so bad had BioWare actually given players an indication of what the game really looked like through normal gameplay rather than screenshots using high resolution textures. They knew about this issue, but they clearly were in no mood to acknowledge it until they were absolutely forced to do so.

You guys who say graphics don't mean much, try to grasp that some people, not a lot but some, actually went out and upgraded their rigs just to play this game on max settings. The uproar alone yesteday when Reid came out and said only those with low end rigs were having fps issues, on my ventrillo server, was enough to make me logg off early. I can only imagine what some of those guys will do tonight after they invested money upgrading their computers for this game, and now to see this.
I'm aware of that, but the way some folks around here are carrying on, you'd think that Bioware promised that the game would look as good as Skyrim.
Of course, it's not these forums without insane drama over the smallest details. None of this should surprise me anymore.
WoW survived 8 years of MMORPG.com and official forum gripes over the graphics.
Because people enjoyed the game play.
It is indeed rather funny what people seem to care so much about.
All like,
"I am enjoying myself playing this wonderful game, but unless I can see the thread holes in the buttons on my character's overcoat I shall rage quit this game!"
When in reality, they are still playing but just LOVE the sound of their own bitching.
Always be something to complain about in ANY MMORPG. Enjoy playing the game, or don't. Leave the rest to the kids.

I like to bring back up the major concern of this thread... the major concern is not whether or not the gfx were garbage in the first place I for one thought that they were OK.
The major concern is there we were deliberately decieved.
BW/EA/LA planned to remove the high rez graphics before the game was launched.
They DID NOTinform us of the change during beta.
Pretty much anyone who applied to beta got in.... it was a demo plain and simple and in the demo the hi rez graphics were there
The screenshots and gameplay videos they posted also showed the same hi rez textures.
Therefore it is safe to assume they did not tell us of such a major change before launch because they knew it would hurt launch numbers
Many of us feel this is deceptive, misleading and a classic example of false advertisement
THAT is the main issue here.
Can we get back to this please?
Let me ask you this? Since when did any game company feel the need to explain every decision they make to you? are you on some board that I'm not aware of? Did Blizard contact every player before making Pandas the next race? Or before changing classes around? Or before balancing classes for that matter? Did Conan consult me when they decided to go free to play?
What exactly do you think your owed? They make the game. They make the decisions. No one makes you play it, that's your choice. You don't like it, don't play it PERIOD.
You feel like you were lied to, quit. That's your right.
The difference is blizzard said they were putting pandas before I bought the expansion, not after

Sad to say but that is life man.
Spend a few hundred on a fancy date with a beautiful lady and still don't get any action.
You have a right to be upset, but no one wants to sit and listen to you complain about it over, and over, and over, and over.
Just a "yeah that sucks bro" and move on.
(By "you" I don't mean YOU Bunks just using "you" as a general statement in the story)
I don't think it matters if they PROMISED high res or the EULA lets them take it out or whatever. My feeling is that we EXPECT to have high res this day and age. Moreover, all the research I did beforehand "images videos," decidedly led me to believe I was getting into a modern fully mmorp game. I was decieved into buying low res? More like I was decieved into buying Richard Gariot's new ultima for 100 bucks only to find out it is in fact a facebook game. They should have let us know how INCREDIBLY simple it is. I mean, that info was out there, but damn.... I was not expecting this at all. (worse)
As far as the difference between cutscene and gameplay graphics goes? If people can't tell the difference, and the gameplay graphics are admittedly bad, then doesn't that mean that the game's graphics in whole are bad?

same also with 8xS AA and 2x Sparse grid the game actually looks high res and really go to me.. ill get some shots later tonight... BUT thats not the issue here its just another option getting taken away much like the almost universally liked match to chest option we had at beta.
I actually with nvidia inspector settings get the ingame armor to looks almost as good as screenshot armor.. and with reasonable framerate but I do have a good gaming rig...
SSHHHHHH stop arguing guys I'm sure we all want to see the counter picture.
I'm not doubting either I really want to see this.
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

? The graphics as they are now ingame, is how the graphics will be, at least for now until they find a means to have the highest res textures in regular gameplay w/o major performance drops in some occasions. If you're claiming that graphics will get worse after the next patch, then you're mistaken.
While reading this whole thread. A question popped in my mind. Why do people settle for less when it is clear that something better has been shown. Only thing people want are the graphics that they show in the cut-scenes out in the open world. That is it, nothing more, nothing less. Yet for some odd reason people defending BW seem to believe others want Crysis style graphics. They just want the graphics shown during beta and at the conventions.
