The major concern is there we were deliberately decieved.

BW/EA/LA planned to remove the high rez graphics before the game was launched.

They DID NOTinform us of the change during beta.

Pretty much anyone who applied to beta got in.... it was a demo plain and simple and in the demo the hi rez graphics were there

The screenshots and gameplay videos they posted also showed the same hi rez textures.

Therefore it is safe to assume they did not tell us of such a major change before launch because they knew it would hurt launch numbers

Many of us feel this is deceptive, misleading and a classic example of false advertisement

THAT is the main issue here.

Can we get back to this please?

Let me ask you this? Since when did any game company feel the need to explain every decision they make to you? are you on some board that I'm not aware of? Did Blizard contact every player before making Pandas the next race? Or before changing classes around? Or before balancing classes for that matter? Did Conan consult me when they decided to go free to play?

What exactly do you think your owed? They make the game. They make the decisions. No one makes you play it, that's your choice. You don't like it, don't play it   PERIOD.

You feel like you were lied to, quit. That's your right.

Incorrect, it's not that we're blinded, it's that it was never an issue for most of us. Since the analogies are flying, I'll give you this. I bought a car recently and didn't know it was suppose to have ass warmers in the seats. I didn't know because it really wasn't an issue for me. I don't need ass warmers in the seats... and frankly.. .they make me a bit incomfortable.

It wasn't until a friend of mine bought the same model and told me his had the ass-warmers that I knew anything about the ass-wamers. And furthermore, once I knew about it, I didn't care, cause I love the car the way it is and don't feel that I really need the ass-warmers.... can I say ass-wamer one more time? Nice!

Like I said, I'm no fanboy. I was playing WoW up until this came out and I'm waiting for FFXIV Version 2 and will be playing that. I just think that this game is fun and I don't find the textures to be an issue. Isn't it possible that some of us just don't care? I really was never lied to, I never asked as I didn't care and never read anything about the textures.

I think it funnier that people hate the game and company so much they're making a bigger deal out of this then it is.

To use your car analogy. It would matter to you I am betting if you are supposed to get 35 miles to a gallon of gasoline. You buy the car and get 20.  Right?

If the game is unable to play High-res textures then it's the engine or infastructure of the game that is entirely at fault.  If that is the case it was in beta and the engine was found to be unable to handle it - thats fine with me to remove it.

But honestly, to me the graphics are the LEAST of SWTOR problems.

It was removed in beta before the game went live. Why everyone is up at arms about this is beyond me. The game is fail on plenty of levels and the fact they removed a feature during beta isn't really among them.

EA & BW's reputation took a massive hit today, no other way to say it. I know personally, they are on my skeptic list the next product they release.

On the lighter side best post i saw was re: this issue

Your playerbase has discovered that your game engine is ignoring the high texture option. Do you:

    1. Fess up, explain that the pressure of the impending release date caused your team to have to cut a few corners, and this got missed.

    2. Acknowledge the issue and agree that the textures should be fixed, and promise to do so in an upcoming patch.

    3. [Force Persuade] [Dark Side] Rename “Medium” to High, and pretend like removing high res textures has always been the plan. Move along! Move along!

I think Bioware has just achieved Dark II!

Thats cool bro... you didnt know much and where pleasently suprised... your a casual player... awesome man.... so awesome.

BUT.... the outraged ones here are the ones that did follow the game and did play in the beta because.... its star wars... come on man.... you dont like star wars?

So for this major change to happen right in front of our faces with no warning especially when, like i said before, a lot of us where on the fence about buying it and did a lot of research and played in the beta just to decide... this is a low blow. If I would have known... i wouldn't have bought...

Perhaps, but no one I know came to me and said... "hey, I'm buying TOR because they have HIGH REZ TEXTURES". Never heard that... not once, from anyone other then the OP and a bunch of folks that, judging from their past, are just jumping on the bandwagon and trashing the game.

My point was, for most people, which is clear from this thread, it is a NON ISSUE.

I guess I am easy to please.I am enjoying the voice overs and the stories and you guys can go on crying about this insignificant stuff while I get back to playing.

Don't think I was deceived in any way on the graphics. Really don't think it's some conspiracy theory either. A decision was made to increase performance for the majority of TOR gamers at the expense of those who have the horsepower to have not been effective.

Those who don't like it and care so much can go edit their .ini files and force their gfx card settings until the high-res textures are patched back in.

Didn't even notice the graphics were different between the open world and cinematic stuff to be honest.

Guess I am enjoying playing the game enough to not really care about such details.

Never been a gfx whore though. I prefer solid game play.

Apparently I am "wrong" about my opinion on the game play being solid?

Now I see the point of those who are attacking me... right... I suppose next they'll say I'm a noob.. a noob who has been playing since UO back in '99. Now THAT was a game where game play > graphics. 2D for Christ's sake. Hated EQ and it's terrible 3D garbage graphics. Prefered my 2D sprites at the time lol

Back to the point, I think anyone who feels cheated by the gfx changes needs to get over it. You don't like it, don't play. Seriously it's that simple.

Devs don't tell us all the decisions they make during production. That is on purpose. Try and imagine if they did. Dear God, no one would play these games.

Anything that happens during beta/production is subject to change. Anything that happens in the LIVE game is subject to change.

Don't you know? People on message boards MUST be kept up to date on every corporate decision, no matter how trivial or mundane, even if they don't play the game they're whining about.

Also, every minor crisis and/or issue related to an MMO MUST be turned into armchair lawyer fodder, wtih so-called experts throwing around terms like fraud and deceptive trade practices like they know what the hell they're talking about. It's tradition around here.

Umm aren't they just removing the "medium" option and the "high" graphics option after the patch will look exactly the same as the "high" option now?

And at a later date they'll patch back in the ultra or whatever textures...

Or you can just edit your files or some such?

Still trying to figure out why this is an issue...

Not like I'm going to log in the day of the patch and my graphic are going to change. They're just changing the labels of the options.

This has nothing to do with the topic, but 'drama mamas', lol! Never heard that term used before ^_^

Gotta remember that one for future use, usually a lot of 'drama mamas' around on forums :P
As for the OP topic, I guess some people are majorly upset, some are just jumping on the bandwagon, and for some it isn't an issue. To me, I see it as a storm in a teacup, but I see most of the things people get upset about regarding games in that light, especially after reading the newspaper or having watched a news program; in the grander scheme of real life I even find it sort of embarassing, the things people get upset or emotional about with games compared to what's really important. But that's me :-/

Again -- all my graphics are maxed out and I'm getting anywhere from 95-110 FPS when I play with no lag, and on a mid-range PC that cost me less than $1000.

What's the problem again? Oh, right. That the game doesn't look like Skyrim. Carry on.
