Just hopping in the locked thread to let you all know the reasons why Danny won't be paid to write for MMORPG.com anymore.
It has nothing to do with the actual article he's since posted in this thread, and in our User Reviews section of the site. I was prepared to post it here as "Why I Don't Like SWTOR", a piece that would give players who are not fans of BioWare's latest a viewpoint that they can sympathize with. Despite the article's somewhat one-sided deragatory nature, we were working out with Danny an article where he would debate against a fan of SWTOR the merits and demerits of the game.
Then we saw he'd already posted the entire review you saw in the OP here on the Darkfall forums... which we were going to pay him $50 for. Then it came to our attention he'd been doing the same with other content for the Guru sites as well. And of course, let's not forget the "I'm Awesome" thread.
It's one thing to share your content with your friends. It's another to post content we're paying for on other sites before we even get to post it. Upon speaking further with Danny in private emails, I realized that he's just not the type of writer I'd want representing this site. Not because of his predaliction towards cynicism (in fact, I'm fond of that as an editorial context), but because of the way in which he seems to want little more than to grab attention for that viewpoint. Validation through "hear-hear" and nothing more. It became increasingly clear that he could not be objective in his writing, and whether you agree with our reviews or not, I'm sure you can see that they do try to give two sides of a coin.
I wish Danny all the best in his future endeavors, but as a reviewer and writer here at MMORPG.com, the shoe just didn't fit.
EDIT: We are still pressing on with the Good Cop/Bad Cop SWTOR article, due out at the end of this month or the beginning of next. Just not with Danny involved.
Anyone care to comment about the post?
this seems more probable than the x-files mystery.
besides which: who really cares? i like to think i come here more for the forums than the articles anyway. if the writers here get bucketloads of cash, i don't mind where it comes from. they're not running for political office. also, i'm a gamer. i'm immune to propaganda. also, the term "biased" gets tossed around a lot, and the true fact is everyone is biased. everyone has an agenda. because we all have goals.
making some money, mmorpg? good on you. it's a tough thing to make money.
paying 50 bucks for an article? drop a few in my hat and i'll send you a scribble.
it's so easy to fall for paranoia. the internet is like a magnet for chinese whispers. i mean, i was reading a conspiracy theory a few hours ago about how obama has been to mars. seriously. look it up. some guy's spinning that he worked in a government program as a "time traveller" and travelled to mars via a stargate system. he then took a walk out of the main town they've got set up there and had to walk down a long winding path to get to an old cabin built by a cia guy to find out more secrets. had to be careful on the path not to get eaten by "land-bound plesiosaurs" who eat travellers. he discovered obama had been in the program for a few years and had spent 48 hours on mars. i kid you not. look it up.
some people will believe anything. it truly boggles the mind.
that aside, we don't own the site. THEY do. and whatever THEY want, THEY can do. even if it involves radiowaves, a transmitter to your brain, and a slideshow of swtor's legendary hi-rez graphics.
on a side note, if mmorpg are getting paid by ea, i think ea might want their money back, because the propaganda machine's broken down.

Best post on this thread. Tip of the hat to you sir!
A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...
Yes...clearly he was fired for his review of SWTOR that they put in their article and posted for everyone to see because EA owns them.
Why would they even post it to begin with you ask? Well, obviously a WoW cronie infiltrated mmorpg hq, ruffeed the editor and then assuming his identity quickly posted the article so all the world could see! Realizing the damage was done the staff at EA...oh my bad mmorpg...quickly assembled together into Voltron and took out the nefarious WoW infiltrator.
Alas, the damage was done so therefore one poor soul had to be sacrificed. So the mmorpg staffers offered Dann'y soul and job up to the deities of EA for proper sacrifice to appease them.
This topic needs an arrow to the knee.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
There is no solid proof that the devil EA paid MMORPG.com anything.
I still remember when dragon age was being released and this very site changed the main page buttons with dragon age theme and dragon age logo.
Ever seen them doing something like that for ANY other game? let alone a single player game which is not online?
Thought so.
So what do you conclude from that? Aside from: Dragone Age's Publisher is Electronic Arts. The site's theme was changed in light of DA's release. Conclusion is that EA must have paid mmorpg.com.
The site gets paid to advertise, no biggie.
It's another thing to stretch that into a conspiracy theory of "EA has paid advertisement money before so they must have paid off the reviewers to put TOR in a positive light".
Unless something else happens that sheds more light on the subject I refrain from making accusations. Innocent until proven guilty or something something.

Good point there.
it's a tough thing to keep changing the buttons, though. the random-spiralling backgrounds are hardly tor-themed either.
personally, i'm glad they don't change the buttons. everyone would complain even more. especially if you rocked up one day to find it decked out in wow's panda-theme. i mean, really. there's enough rage on here about whether x game got given the right score out of 10, let alone which game gets given pretty buttons on the front page...

As another user pointed out, we've posted our official statement on this matter. From this point, you can choose to believe what you will. I can tell you what Bill stated on the situation is absolutely true, but these are just words, it's up to you what you want to believe.
With that said, these forums are for the discussion of Star Wars: The Old Republic, so I am going to go ahead and lock it now.
