EQ is so empty now

I played EQ from the time Kunark came out to shortly after Shadows of Luclin. But earlier this year I got an e-mail from Sony inviting me to play one more month for free. Trying to get old customers back, obviously. Well, it was free, so I reinstalled all those game CD's from all the expansions, downloaded all the patches and logged in.

Wow. My characters were still there. Who said they would be deleted after 6 months? Okay, so I take my druid main character and make a sentimental journey to all those places where I used to play.

And found those places empty. There was nobody in Crushborne. Nobody in EC or WC. The Oasis was chock full of crocodiles and not a single player there to kill them. Lake of Ill Omen was deserted. The big cities like Freeport and Qeynos rarely had players there.

So I asked around where everybody was. Everybody is in the very newest zones. Because the new zones give better xp and loot, as well as being new. And there are no new players which might still want to explore the old zones.

I looked at everything. Lauged once more at the now even more outdated graphics. Logged off and uninstalled EQ again. Forever, this time. I'll wait for EQ2.

    Naw not all in the new zones, basically everyone is in Planes of power, or the newest zone (veskar) but its hard to find too many people hanging out in legacy of yekesha (or whatever) which is newer than planes of power. I did acctually have to get a raid together in my guild to even get more than 3 people into a LoY zone that has some nice drops.... so not all new zones. Just no one explores now

    OMG! SO TRUE! i used to play exactly a year ago, and i quit (morningly) i got the free 7 day trial so i went back on my old chars and like the zones had loike 8 people MAX in them, it was weird, when i used to go on, i would be surprised if there were LESS than 8

    Its all because of PoP... It ruined EQ... Wizards and Druids lost there jobs and the only city people ever go to is PoK!

    Im definently switching to EQ2 when it comes out..

    yeah PoP is responsible for the declining population in other zones, look what happened when they introduced the bazaar nobody hangs out in EC any more. Which sucks for those who dont have Luclin as they now have trouble buying and selling items.

    I can remember when EQ was in BETA stages...  geez!  That was a long time ago...  I was playing UO then.

    Hee hee..that was before my time in EQ as well...but UP is fun.  ONe reason that I am hoping that EA Event announces a sweet UXO game is because the servers..as people say are so empty at times...making it sooo hard to group, etc.  Yippee for a new Ultima Game for sure.

    I have a friend who is going to be going to that event for the new Ultima game...I will let you know what he says if you want...

     

    And yes...EQ2 should be crowded..but there are many others out there that will compete with it...don't you think....

    I'm very boring...  I like white walls in my house and plan binders... all though I'm 23 years young and out of school,  I'm still a boring person. ;)  My background is black...  my windows colors are default.

    pictures...? PICTURES...? this is HIGH SCHOOL, i can just turn my head and LOOK! lol, pictures don't jump up and downimage

    I don't think it was the new expansions faults 100% that Everquest has died. Sure, they did take away a lot of good things that teleporting classes had and stuff, but I don't think all these new zones are that bad.

    In my opinion, the new expansions are more or less forcing younger players to go back to the old zones, as all of the recent expansions except for Shadows of Luclin have added nothing but level 40+ Zones! Kunark did have a lot of high level zones, but it did have nice little newbie areas too. Velious is completely 35+, I guess. Shadows of Luclin is mostly 30+, except for the few neebiw zones and cities. Planes of Power is definatel 50+. Legacy of Ykesha pretty much added more 30+ stuff.

    And my best guess is that the upcoming expansion, Lost Dunegons, is going to add even more zones you can't even get within 1,000 miles of unless your over level 45-50.

    Yep, I cant believe it, EQ is dying... and before EQII has got up and running.  Cant help but to think now that it will be curtains for EQ once II is on line.  I really thought it would continue on for some time.

    Murt, btw, I have it on good authority that your walls are covered in photos of Flem!!
