I think they already have contributed. I rarely play EQ anymore, and my finger is on the trigger to dump it as soon as Horizons comes out. Pretty sad though been playin EQ since March 1999.

    Shots out!

I vaguely recall back in the days... of having to upgrade to Win 95 so I could play Diablo. That was what... 97? I had a nice P150 processor too... lol. My point is, since then there have been MEGA leaps and bounds in both technology and in games in that time. Honestly I'm surprised at how long EQ stayed afloat. Were it not for the multiple expansions, it definetly wouldn't have been around as long as it has been. Sure lots of people still play EQ... but there are a lot of "retired EQ vets" from all era's of the game... people who remember when Rubicite was common <or commonly camped I should say> to date.... and Sony of course wants EVERYONE back. Make a Sequel, learn from the mistakes in the past... make everyone happy... sure I'll play again. I just don't wanna have to solo another rat in freeport.... lol.

But anyways, the technology's here, and personally can't wait to see the "new world" EQ 2 has to offer with todays tech.

<wouldn't it be GREAT though after they shut EQ down for good... assuming that ever happens... if they let owners play it as an 'offline' game, or people could LAN it... just an idea>

Well I've been playing EQ for two and a half year now and I'm getting sick of it. I joined my brothers guild called Legions Of Valhalla on Morell-Thulke server and guess what, I din't havea single flag and noone wants to help cuz they raid 10 of 24 hours aday and I can't get my flag for Sol Ro Tower and so on. I guess it's time to quit soon enough and start to play something else, Maybe EQ2. And yes PoP Ruined EQ TOTALLY! to much to do for to good stuff, I meen, who wants to play 12 hours a day in 3 weeks to collect VT key/Emp key/All flags to Sol Ro and so on? Im getting kinda sick of it.

    RPG Lives on FOREVA!!!! =))))

If your still playing EQ - you don't realize there are better MMO's out there.

I was so bored at the end of three years, I had no trouble giving up a 65/rog 65/dru 61/wiz. I canceled them for FFXI about a month ago. Its out in 2 days, and my break is almost over!

Go peek at www.everquest-2.com, there is more information there then you will be able to read between here and when the game comes out in 5 months.

EQ2 takes place 500 years in the FUTURE of the Norath that existed in the original game.  Its the future but its not sci-fi or anything like that.  It is the same world as the original EQ however there have been some major disasters that have changed much of the world.  Luclin (the moon from the original game) has broken up and is all shattered and fiery in the sky.

Parts of the moon rained down on the planet and there were earthquakes and stuff so much of the land has changed but many of the original zones still exist though they are changed in lots of ways.  There is a Commons, Freeport, Qeynos, Nektulos and other familiar places but they have changed a lot and there are many new unique areas.

Anyway, there has been bunches of information released and plenty to read about if your curious at the site I gave above.

The original EQ is far from empty or dead.  It is still by far the #1 mmorpg in the U.S. as far as people playing it.  It still has more active accounts then the next 2 biggest mmorpgs combined.  While I understand many people dont like it, it sure seems to be the one most people think is the best and worth keeping an account on.

Its funny to read some of the comments about how people who are playing EQ dont realize there are better mmorpgs out there then go on to say how they arent playing anything until FFO or other new ones come out...

Awesome! thats sweet that it still has the old world. When it comes out, I'll probably switch then...

...cool, theres going to be housing tooimage

thanks for the site too misti

I think I'd have to agree with the subject. Well, in certain points. EQ is FAR from empty, however, all the old and sentimental areas are empty. Create a new character, go to CB, no one's there. Before it was hard to get a group because they were all full. Now there arent people to form one. All the people are in the new areas, but for people like myself who dont have access to stores which sell Mmorpg's (I live in south america) its really hard. I basically have to solo and wherever i go where people my level actually are, they have all the top stuff or are being pl'ed by their main's buddies. EQ should calm down with all the new expansions.

  • FlemFlem Member UncommonPosts: 2,870

Eq does feel empty but that doesnt mean that fewer people are playing, its because of the expansions.

For example the tunnel in EC is empty now but those people that would be there are now at the Bazaar.

The more zones added in from the expansions just means the peeps spread out a bit more.

I dont agree with some that say that POP ruined eq, I though it was a great expansion, the levels needed boosting and I liked the whole massive blue daimond drops. =p

But the thing that ruined eq for me was SoL, because My computer was old and I couldnt handle the graphics, it was also dark n' gloomy which I didnt like. By far I liked Velious the most out of all the expansions.

I agree with some though, that eq is fading, even if they arent loosing alot of people, the game is just past its prime, and the evil company (verant) is trying to compensate with the newer games by releasing new expansions over and over, but the only thing that that does is get people that are explorers to stay.

The lower level scene is gone, and so is the zest of the game.

    <<in my opinion>>

I agree with Flem. Sony made the world too big, in my opinion. Everquest now has like....6 expansions? I just wished they wouldnt have made it so big that in some/most of the old world zones, they wouldnt be so deserted.
