About TOR's Ilum and Tatoien (you fight anyone not in your group), everybody was like that is going to be epic. I do not think anybody even steps in that are where you fight anyone not in your group, so basically a dead spot. As for ilum, it's meh... massive lag when the republic actually does come out on the field but there's hardly any fight still. If there is someone brave enough to go in the middle of them and try to push them over or something... hardly epic.
Now back to this Mists... I'm just not seeing why would I want to go there? Will there be some sort of quick travel button, sort of like Warzones? Will we be able to get out somewhat easily?

Your guess is as good as ours. Really, the blog post and the wiki tell you everything we know. This monday we'll here about the experience of the press so hopefully that will clear some stuff up.
You can jump in and out of the mists whenever you want. Although there will probably be some timer to jump out so that you can't escape someone fighting you.
Uh, I thought I might have missed something when I read the article and I was like, hmmm... I think I need to read it again hehe
So they did not really say why one would actually wana go there then huh?

Why would you want to go there?
Who can answer that except for you?
I will want to go there for the purposeful PvP, challenge, server pride, and to be part of something bigger then myself.
I am sure entering and exiting will be by a UI button, though I don't know.
oh well. maybe you'll see it soon, maybe you won't.
there is also the fact that you can level within the mists without ever having to experience the rest of the world.
There's a screen shot showing an Asura gate going into the Mists.
As far as why you'd want to do? If you either like PvP or hate PvP then you'll want to go. Of course, those with a neutral inclination towards PvP will want to go to.
Oderint, dum metuant.
These are my reasons too. I thought they were self-evident.
Me too.
He probably means whats the pay-off for himself in terms of loot.
You enter world PvP via lions arch, which is a simple map travel away.
There possibly may be a UI button, but even if there isn't it's pretty quick to get in and out via map travel.
As for why to do it? I guess you just haven't quite grasped the concept yet is all don't worry, when you get to play it, you'll see.
Illum and tatoine are just designed horribly. It doesn't mean large open pvp areas can't work.
You see the difference bwteen Mists and Illum/Tatooine and other recent appearances of so called "World PVP" is that Mists actually have pretty structured gameplay elements. There are clear gloas there to achieve and Point of Interest to capture. Most AAA MMOs these days pretty much just gives You an area and say "Here, have fun with mindless slaughter than has no impact on anything".
If You played WoW back in vanilla days You should think of Mists as much bigger, much more varied and much richer Alterac Valley that lasts for 2 weeks and is constant struggle for land control, where 3 servers are pitted against eachother rather than just 40vs40 from two factions.
Why would anyone want to go there? Levelling in dynamic environment, PvP, objectives providing boosts to Your whole server, implemented ladder/scoring mechanic adding to the competetive aspect, loot., and most improtantly - fun.
It's not an open area somewhere between zones, it's instanced piece of landscape, designed purely for massive warfare, keep control, tower control, siege and skirmishes. While Illum in TOR is pretty much unfinished concept with no real direction nor consequence behind it. You go there, do Your daily/grind valor, You go somehwere else. It affects nothing, there is no objective,a nd with how poorly TOR is optimized it's unplayable for many people.
Why is everyone looking at Ilum when trying to get an Idea of the Mists where as it makes a whole lot more sense to look at DAOC?
I could be missing something.
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.
I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.
P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
Because people who played DAoC are ancient and dying breed by now. As much as i hate WoW bashing and blaming everything onto the game just because it's popular the fact is ever since it's release there wasn't much in terms of polished objective based, mass PvP in MMOs.
Actually the Frontiers in DAOC were not quite like the Mists here in GW2, while we did have keep objectives etc it was more or less endgame. As a poster above said picture Mists more like a ongoing AV in Vanallia WoW with interactive objectives along with XP.
IIum was just done horribly wrong from the start, still kinda sad on the blown oppotunity BW had but oh well.
BTW I am not quite ancient or dead yet, and I played DAOC :P
Oh ok thanks guys.

mist is mini daoc but in a good way b/c daoc requires too much coordination and effort of the entire realm for relic raid. Mist is a small scale keep siege and can split as many instances as it needs so it doesnt crash the server like daoc and warhammer.
Is this a selling point ? You can reach max level doing the same thing in the same zone and not experience any other part of the game world? I can also count grains of sand all day but why would I?
edit:: Im just confused, you say that matter of factly like its a good thing.
If people enjoy WvW-PvP then they should be able to stay there as long as they want without having to worry about lagging behind, if you don't want to do this then don't do it. So yes it is a selling point, and it is a good thing.
I think so, yes.
Offering maximum option at all times and removing barriers to play (which PvE is to the PvP hardcore a lot of the time) is a good thing.
Who cares if someone buys GW2 and chooses to never play PvE? I don't.
It's their game.
I leveld in WAR doign nothing but PVP matches and related PVP quests. It isn't that bad really. If someone is comfortable leveling that way why not? i would be worried if that was the only viable way to level which luckily is not true.
Obviously not a selling point for you but for some people it is. Having the ability to level up without pve at all is a good thing for people that dont want to pve. I for one will probably level a charicter soley in vW '3, granted not my first charicter but one none the less
Am I the only one that noticed the OP's unintetionally clever pun - "Mists - I'm just not seeing it". I was really hoping for a clever thought provoking thread!
OP:
What does SWTOR have to do with GW2, and why does something in SWTOR, make you not see something else in a completely different game that is about completely different things?
Lots of games have PvP. I find it strange that you merely picket at SWTOR and somehow concludes, without knowing anything about GW2 that your not seeing it.
There are stickies in this forum with lots of info about GW2. I suggest you go read it. Making wild comparisons will only make it end in tears for the haters and fanboys.
No it is not. Read the Arena Net blog the very first line contradicts this. http://www.arena.net/blog/mike-ferguson-on-guild-wars-2-world-vs-world
Choice is a good thing.
Levelling in the pvp lakes in WAR was a blast. Then they made it so you got beter rewards in battlegrounds and killed them stone dead.
Did you ever play DAoc or WAR? I guess if you didn't you might not 'get it' quite so easily.
