Ive been reading and it seems that healing is completely eliminated from the equation (besides self heals and intangible aoe heals that everyone gets. It kinda sounds like everyone is a dpser who has the ability to dodge and heal.
So instead of the holy trinity, everyone is just the exact same thing.
That is cool...i guess?
To get back to the point, I love healing in other MMOs. Avoid this game correct?

If you don't think you can have fun with anything else in an MMO other than healing, then yes, avoid it.
[Mod Edit]
No, you help keep your allies alive by giving them support. Ex. Stunning, Crippling, Dazing, Fearing, etc. You focus on actually getting in the action rather than just looking a health bars.
BOOYAKA!
yes, you should avoid this game. It has no carrot on a stick for you, and your healing role isn't here. Not the game for you.
Also, good luck on getting your beta invite.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
You are misinformed then because healing isn't completely eliminated from the game beside self healing.
It will be different than most of the game out there, yes.
But if you want it exactly the same, go play the hundred game that always follow the same model.
I think some people like it that way, because they're lazy.
If you are concerned about only healing...yes, avoid this game. It's not for you. If, however, you are interested in playing support roles rather than tank or dps roles, you can certainly do that. You can also tank or dps if you want. You can split time between all three if you want. From everything I've gathered, it seems Anet is making it so you have a choice to do whatever you want and you won't be relegated to one specific role.
If one specific role is what you want, especially as a dedicated healer, then you should probably play something else.
However, I would really suggest checking out the gameplay videos that are out there or wait and try out the game when it's released.
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???

You can spec a Guardian almost solely as a healer with little DPS. Closest thing you can get to a healer at the moment.
Water Elementalist and a Medikit Engineer are heal heavy too.
They'll work a bit like healers in AoC, where a lot of it will be heals over time and you'll be DPSing and doing other support in between heals.
Edit: Guess I should mention the build.
Mace / Focus (this gives you 2 heals as well as a self-heal on the final chain of your mace attack as well as another ability that grants protection - a 33% damage reduction - to the group)
Healing Breeze (AoE Hot)
Merciful Intervention (heals the lowest health ally)
Signet of Mercy (passive healing buff and a quick revive)
Renewed Focus (refreshes your virtues which essentially gives you another HoT and Aegis to the party, which blocks a single attack)
Sanctuary or Tome of Courage (Tome grants you powerful support spells, while Sanctuary is similar to WoW's pally bubble only it effects anyone within the bubble)
You can also cleanse conditions on your party with your focus heal and virtue of resolve.
Lol just be a supporter and I already know you knew that, I also know why your over here but it's all good ha ha.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
And no, everyone is NOT the exact same thing. A Necromancer is vastly different from a Warrior, which is vastly different from a Thief, which is vastly different from a Mesmer, etc., etc.

Healing works differently here, yes. But as I see it that means that someone who like healing shouldn´t preorder the game but try it in the open beta or free trial.
Different does not neccesarily mean that it isn´t good and think of all the good things in life you would miss out on if you didn´t try new things.
You surely might not like this but you actually don´t know that until you tried if. If you had tried a very similar thing and hated it you probably could stay away but there isn´t really anything like it in the MMO genre so don´t expect anything but give it a go anyways without coughing up money for it preferably.
You might be surprised, I bet there are a lot of good things in world that we would love if we give it a chanse and new experiences can be great.
everyone is a support healer in this game.
If you enjoy UI health bars and pressing the number "3" than no this game isn not for you.
The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.
The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, solo Questing, Cut-Scenes...

What does anything dealing with being a healer have to do with the carrot on a stick philosophy? The OP never once mentioned gear progression or raiding.

Not exactly, if you love doing ONLY healing then yes I believe you should avoid this game at all costs. Being able to change abilities (or mage attunements for that matter) and not using them is a missed opportunity. As a side note, The classes play vastly differently from each other. It's not the role that defines a class but their gameplay.
I am just wondering what everyone is going to do when they hit max lvl cause there is no progression at all in the game a max, but everyone always complains there is nothing to do in othere mmos end-game so not sure what the hype is about this game.
I'm sorry but good healers work more and harder than anyone in a trinity game.

That... that's an option, certainly.
Though it reminds me of yesterday when I was trying to convince my three year old to try some blue corn tortilla chips because the bag was already open.
'I don't LIKE blue chips!'
'Have you tried them?'
'No'
'Why don't you try them? They're super tasty!'
'I like YELLOW chips'
'... but maybe you'd like blue chips too!'
'No, I like YELLOW chips'
'I love blue chips! Mmm, look, I'm eating some!'
'I don't WANT blue chips, I want yellow chips!'
'How about you try just ONE? Maybe you'll like it!'
'Blue chips are icky! I want YELLOW chips'
'... I thought you said you never tried it'
'YELLOW CHIPS'
... but hey. If you're positive that you want healing in MMOs and the untried alternatives are no good, more power to you.
... want a chip?
Progression doesn't need to exist un the form of higher numbers. Searching for rare loot is just as progressive as searching for loot with high numbers. Do you consider raids to be a good form of gameplay? If a game ONLY had raids, would it be a good game? Because most MMOs pretty much only have raids as endgame.
Guild Wars downscales you so that you can enjoy the high level content and the low level content.
That is only the pve aspect. PvP will always keep players coming back. To think that progression is needed is rediculous. Call of Duty didn't sell millions for progression. Competetiveness will always outshine fighting mobs. Unless you prefer NOT to play against other players.
Well nobody is going to do World v World or Explorable Dungeons... that's for sure.

LOL, that was great.

Soft drink quite nearly came out of my nose. Fantastic explanation of this argument...and more to the point, i've never had blue chips either. Im about to go get some. Right now.
There are no classes with the power to control the gameflow as healers did in trinity's past.. I understand how some people play healers because it gives them that ability to mortally screw a group should they leave or quit the group..
It was just too powerful of a simple role, and while it made sense in the past they have found a way to move away from it..
I, for one, think that everyone should have the power of a simple heal or first aid and the ability to render said aid to a friendly unit BUT.. I also think that there should be those who specialize or are better at rendering aid.. Kind of like modern military soldiers all having been trained in buddy care and first aid, but not to the extent of a full fledged Field Medic..
They did not include a full fledged Catholic Preist but from the looks of it and one of the posters above, the Gaurdian could very well carry the flag of Paladin, just a healer with heavy armor..
Honestly, this is just the current mindset that most MMOs have driven into your head. That there has to be a 'healer, dps, tank' to have an MMO. Not only is this not true, but I don't know if you even realize this, but you are still thinking of GW2's class system in that same mindset. ("I guess everyone is just a dps with self-heals").
This game just doesn't work like that. It's less about whether you are dealing damage, taking damage, or support, and much more about how you approach the battlefield. IE a warrior & necro both will be dealing damage and both have support, but their methods for doing so are so drastically different that they will change the way you approach a fight by a very wide margin. There's been long posts trying to explain this, already on the forums so I won't attempt to try and show you the other way of thinking that GW2 / Anet is coming from.
So, more to the point, healing isn't 'gone' from this game. It's just not dedicated. You can play you're class as more of a support role (buffing allies, laying down shields, etc.) But if you try and limit you're character into such a narrow role you will be hurting yourself and your team.
So yes, if you are one of those people who only plays MMOs to healbot, then you will absolutely hate this game. However, if you enjoy other aspects of MMOs, and don't just like healing all the time, then this may be a game worth checking out. Keep in mind it's only a 1-time fee of 60$. You will find a hard time getting another AAA MMO for that same value, which has the same amount of content that this game does. You could even play this game alongside something like TOR (which is very heal-centric) to get your mainheals in when u want.
