Ive been reading and it seems that healing is completely eliminated from the equation (besides self heals and intangible aoe heals that everyone gets. It kinda sounds like everyone is a dpser who has the ability to dodge and heal.
Well, to be more accurate, everyone is a support / damage hybrid that can control enemies as a side effect or deliberately. Could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. The only thing we can really do is hope that between professions, there are enough flavor and mechanic differences to disguise the fact that everyone can do the same things. If everyone does indeed get an intangible aoe heal like you said, then it's a badly wrapped system for sure.
You can tilt the balance in either direction by swapping out skills and weapons. Speculation abound, but I imagine that particularly hard content will require organized parties to develop their own strategies and roles or copy it from PvX, so you will see builds tilted more towards damage.. or support.. or control, in order to maximize the potential of specialists.
Obviously, the game is trying to get players to take responsibility of their own health bar instead of assigning a few people to do it for them. This person isn't particularly good at the game but it shows off how you can avoid some damage if you start to realize that enemies can't automatically hit you and there is a dodge key (and they are better than all the other players that I've seen - this isn't saying much though).
Will we see people building traits / skills that are dedicated to roles? Oh yes. Heal turret engineers.. water ele.. they still exist. I think the idea is more that you're picking a class for its flavor and archetype, not for what roles it can fill, since each class has some sort of CC/defensive capabilities, at least one way to do damage, and the ability to support the team (healing, buffing, debuffing, class combos).
If you 'love healing in other MMOs', you might still like GW2 if you like the concept of supporting your team and enhancing their ability to do damage and survive. Healing is just a way to support your team reactively - if you still like the reason behind healing and not just the act of it, you'll do fine. If red bars are your thing, then this won't give you that enjoyment.
Good luck either way. It's annoying that you are getting flamed by the fans, but it's MMORPG.com, I guess.
Actually, I wouldn't bet against this. However, the main difference is that you won't need the new gear to run the new content and the stat increases will be paltry by comparison with any of the progression based games. Gear tiers will still not exist.
I agree. I can see a point where they will add very difficult to get Named drops that are minimal increases but that everyone will strive for just to be one of the few that have it. It's not different from gear progression except it wouldn't unbalance a character relative to the majority.

Bragging rights, if you will.
I am pretty sure it will be like in GW1, rare drops are just cosmetic items very rarely are they any better than the norm and almost all could be dulpicated.
You can totally turn yourself into a designated healer if you so desire. GW2's system doesn't restrict you from playing how you like, it simply doesn't require you to play in ways you may not like.
Take the elementalist, for example. Water attunement offers the Geyser spell, which summons a guyser at a targetted location to hear nearby allies, or the Healing Rain spell, which is an aoe heal + cleanse (condition removal). These are both a part of your normal 1-5 buttons, not your healing and support buttons. You can also put up defensive barriers in your earth attunement to protect your allies. And, of course, you can designate yourself as a primary person who runs around and resurrects fallen allies.
I daresay you could spend the vast majority of your time solely supporting your allies and you will be very useful to your group.

So instead of the holy trinity, everyone is just the exact same thing.
That is cool...i guess?
To get back to the point, I love healing in other MMOs. Avoid this game correct?
So all you want to do is Heal? why limit yourself? why not try something diffrent? I really dont Understand a thing you are saying?
I love Riding the bus, So I refuse to travel by CAR? I love the Train so I refuse to take a Plane? I love boats so I refuse to swim? I love to Walk so I refuse to RUN? That is about how much sense your post is making to me?
Do you suffer anny other Phobias in IRL that stops you from doing diffrent things? Just asking now because going by your logic you would have to stop doing alot of things because you love something so much so without it you cant do anything... And have to avoid diffrent things because they are diffrent??
You might take a step back and take a good look at yourself and ask yourself. Is this all I am... A tank and spank, Trinity loving Junky who cant even try something diffrent? this is the limit of my own potential.. I have reached my limit I cant Evolve.. I stuck here and there is no WAY OUT...
If you enjoy UI health bars and pressing the number "3" than no this game isn not for you.
It's amusing that some people think of dedicated healers so simply. Particularly in pvp against good players, healing involves so many concerns simultaneously, including smart evasion and a strong grasp of the entire field and what each player on both sides is doing - very macro. I do appreciate all the comments on GW2 healing. I don't mind rethinking support, but will likely miss the option for primary healing.
Why are we picking on healers here? I respect the hell out of good healers and know i can never play one.
If anything, we should be picking on "dps only" people that just like to complain about everything and yet have no responsibility to group survival. Those are the ones that i think will struggle to grasp GW2 group combat.

You might Instead Ask yourself is this the Limit of your potential. Try thinking outside the Box Much? Cant play a diffrent game for once? Unless we have the Holy Trinity you just refuse to play?
To me it sounds like "I love Going By BUS so I refuse to go by Car.
You never wanted to play another game? is this the limit of your own potential? This whole argument falls flat, because this system isent using what your are used 2 = BAD game...
To me that only tells me that your narrow minded, and thinking that dedicated healing is the only way to play a game... As you said yourself you might need to rethink Suport, or try something ells... And that might not be a bad thing.. Human Existance is about Evolution.. Look at humans that lived a 1000 years ago.. Their lives were alot diffrent. Without Evolution we would still be stuck in caves, hunting animals for food. But because people keept pushing themselves into new things we Progressed forward.. Dont stand still and start Moving forward...

Coffee much? I plan to play and have loved the GW franchise since day 1. Perhaps you didn't notice I said "I don't mind rethinking support." See you in game, friend.
OP, it's more like "If you love group gameplay, avoid this game"
It's going to be a zergfest with 0 group coordination, everyone can tank, heal themselves (LOL PATHETIC) and DPS, how could anyone even call this game an RPG?
I also love how people say same thing they said about Rift... "people playing together" yeah more like people soloing together.
3 months and there will be a healing class. Wait and see!
Not a chance, there is healing, and classes that excel at healing more then others, they will not change the whole combat system,
at least a miilion people are sick of the holy trinity, so wait and see it will stay as is, all classes can heal, while some classes are better at group healing but their sole function is not to just heal.

OH ya because DPS zerging is so much fun? The trinity is the only way to have challenging content with out it you get a FPS game. Wait and see!

What exactly do you think most trinity group combat is like? Healer sits in the back while everyone else AoE zergs mobs down. There's no CC or strategy other than don't pull more than you can heal through.

'I WANT EVERY MMORG TO USE THE EXACT SAME MODEL THAT HAS BEEN USED FOR THE LAST 7 YEARS' or, open mind and look at support classes.
There are games that give the trinity, so you have that as a choice, GW2 offers a different choice.
ps, GW2 also removes dps zerging, you need to research what is actually replacing the trinity.

*listens for the sound of the door hitting Monorojo on his/her/its way out.

If you are a dps that loves standing in the fire and then blaming the healer, avoid this game like the plague.
All die, so die well.
haha this! Everyone who wants static combat (tanking, dpsing and healing) would suck at this game.

You can heal in the game.
But if you want to be some leech who just sits back and only heals then yes this is not for you, of course you are also a bad player, so meh.
Right. Go play something else. Thank goodness this role is extinct.

Yes GW2 is trying something different, AVOID it at all cost, please lets make more clones we dont have enough of them
There is still healing, but you have other things to do other then look at health bars, I dont see how this is a bad thing.

GW2 has a trinity function. Every Proffesion can fill any of the trinity roles depending on what weapons they have equiped.
