So we can expect a ton of    "I GOT IN"    threads I assume?

The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.

The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, solo Questing, Cut-Scenes...

Not if they don't want to risk losing their spot in the beta.

your chances are 1 in a million. if there are 1 million sign ups then only 1 of you, that leaves a chance of 1 in a million.

So they only let 1 player play. OMG!

You don't seriously believe that do you?

Even tho my chances are low to get into the beta, i am very happy anyway cuz GW2 deserves all its Signups. Long live AreaNet! and Well done!

We should establish a safe word if we get into beta so that we don't break the nda. I vote for "Lemon Tree" or "Tippy Toes"

I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

And we still have not taken into account the players who did not play GW1. Soooooooo seriously, it is not impressive.

They shut off the sign ups at one million. After 50 hours or so they were still going strong.

    Oderint, dum metuant.

If one gets into beta can he/she make screenshot and record gameplay for personal use (not for public). And once the NDA gets lifted release that material?

am i the only one that sees bragging about how meny beta sign-ups you have a little bit of Deja-Vu... Right SWTOR said the same thing.

Lets hope GW2 backs up their word unlike Bioware.

Well so far everything they've said or claimed has been proven true by extensive gameplay footage and press reports. IN addition, ArenaNet has been 100x more transparent than Bioware thoughout the whole development process.

It's such a breath of fresh air to see a comapny that actually treats their fans like people and not just bank accounts.

  • It's the "in 48 hours" that is impressive so comparisons with TOR are a bit silly.

I applied for beta for TOR and then completely lost interest in the game.

Also, I'm definitely buying GW2 - it is B2P - but I've no intention of beta testing anything or even rushing to buy it.

We do have to be careful of hype though. I tried GW a couple of times and it just didn't grab me. I wouldn't be surprised if GW2 goes the same way.

Good boy, your thinkin. don't rush into beta's or Releases because both of them show the game at its lowest point. if you can recognize what it is and hang in there for the usual 3 months of fix then you will be one of the top players on the server. if not let those 3 months pass and join after that.

I haven't played the game so i won't judge, Most of the people said the same thing as you when SWTOR was about to go in CB. For all i know you could be a fanboy who would worship a game regardless of how bad it is, Look at SWTOR fanboys for example. Now The only game i will preorder will be TERA because I already tried Korean version so i know EXATLY what i will be getting myself into. Developers talk a lot of shit and its understandable, People want their game sold even if they have to lie.

In GW's case The box sales is all that matters. It won't fail when it comes to money I can assure you but It might flop for all we know.

i say it often maybe i should just put in my sig now. GW2 has supporters that are most alike Ron Paul supporters, they know what they want and they wont Side step what so ever. so i can almost garentee this game wont flop.

    Because i can.

I truly hope this isn't serious.  A sad day for the human race if it is.

It's not likely to be as easy as 1 in a million if 1 million sign up, read my previous post to see why.

Wow.  You guys are getting scarier and scarier.  I've yet to do this on any forums, but now may finally be the time:  WOOOOOOSH!

I hoped he wasn't serious not because I was saddened by the prospect of having a meager 1 in one million chance (because those obviously are not the odds) but because that was insanely poor reasoning on his part.  I was hoping he was just messing with the poster to whom he was responding, but now, it turns out even if he was just playing a joke, there exists others who actually do fail at the most basic reasoning skills :(

Your chances at getting into the beta are contingent entirely upon how many people they plan to invite.  If they had planned on inviting 1 million players, then everyone who signed up will have a 100% chance at getting in.  If they had planned on invited 300,000.  Then you have approximately a 3/10 chance at getting in, varying slightly based upon your computer specs and what they're looking to test.

You would only have a 1 in one million chance if they only intend to invite one person (as a poster immediately after the original "1 in one million" post was quick to point out, but was somehow continually missed.)

I missed that post under it, ninja edit? Didn't notice on my second quote though so yeah..

Also though, my post was less about the obvious 1 in a million and more to do with how the cross sections of systems that applied vs systems they expect in retail.

Apparently not, I should maybe not be trying to help people on forums while dual boxing on EVE :D

After reading their twitter it was obvious that submitting multiple entries was ok, i used 3 seperate computers with low/med/ and even a med/high end mobile gpu, i probably submitted 50 apps myself.

I don't think they were checking for duplicates, from what i read, the twitter feed said to submit again to several people.

Don't let the number of sign ups put you off. There are probably many ppl who signed up multiple times using different accounts and identical ips would most likely be filtered out :P.

Looking forward to EQL and EQN.

You're ignoring the fact that SWTOR beta sign-ups lasted up until like 2 weeks before release. That's was like what, 6 months?

So A-Net got 75% of the total SWTOR beta sign-ups in a fraction of the time, and that doesn't tell you anything?

Am I the only one who sees the flaw in his logic?

@wrathzilla Don't confuse beta sign ups with pre-orders
  • will75will75 Member UncommonPosts: 365

swtor was a sub based game,

regardless guild wars is about selling units. If they sell 1 million copies, they don't have to worry about monthly subs, their whole budget model etc.. is built on retail copies sold, not retaining people..Now... retaining people is important because then they pay for that expansion that they churn out often

  • WarbandWarband Member UncommonPosts: 723

I'd probably say gw2 as a decent chance at beating swtors launch sales assumming A-Net and NCsoft actually bother to go all out with it's marketting. It's simply a lot easier to sell , since it does have the stigma of a monthly fee. If they market it like Skyrim online we could end up seeing very large sales numbers.

The silly WOW comment aside I want to point out you wont have to face server imbalance since there are no factions. As far as WvWvW goes they are limiting how many people from each server can be in that set of maps at once.

As far as the beta goes thoes numbers mean absolutly nothing.  All it means is that there are 1mil people who have signed up. What will mean something is how many boxes it actually sells and how many "active" accounts there are. Keep in mind it will have a cash shop so retention rate still matters.

  • Timeout77Timeout77 Member Posts: 177

GW2 will go out strong.. and I hope they sell a shitlaod of Copys. Also everyone remember they make the money of the BOX.. So getting bug fixes and other things will be FREE of Charge..... its a Win WIN situation...
