Getting a huge number of beta signups doesn't guarantee success.

But I would say getting a poor number of beta signups probably does guarantee failure.

This is one more box ticked, of the boxes GW2 is going to need to tick to be a massive success.

But based on the universally positive feedback out of the press beta, I really can't see this game failing. Opinions of those who have played it are much more unified and positive than they have been for any game I can remember.

Fortunately for me I can find that quality elsewhere.

Comparing price of hardware and software really makes no sense.

As I see it, you can choose to play the most fun game compared to the price, the cheapest game or the most fun no matter what the cost is. It is your choice.

Saying that it is impossible to run a B2P game online is however just not true anymore. There is a reason all FPS games had player owned servers 10-15 years ago while they now host them themselves. Bandwidth and server prices have dropped a lot..

Games like Meridian 59 and UO had no choice but monthly fees. Today there is choices and as most products the companies decide the price themselves and we as customers decide if we think it is worth it or not.

Just means 999,999 people are going to find their computers without power till I get my Beta Invite.

And we still have not taken into account the players who did not play GW1. Soooooooo seriously, it is not impressive.

    IN 48 HOURS.

I read gaming news daily and almost missed it if it weren't for a forum post on this site.

Most people were propably unaware there was even a beta sign up.

It was the same with World of Warcraft.

lol if you think about it that's a good thing, maybe you should have used a different a game instead lol.

I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)

Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.

I didn't like WOW myself; to simple and lineair/themepark but it got a lot of things right. And has gotten over 11 million subscriptions..

I like how most of the comments in this thread are either:

A: About how bad Flex1 was at doing Math (which was solved somewhere in the upper stratosphere of the comments but is continuously reanimated)

    or

B: How bad or good GW2 is going to be, with 'good' representing an MMO game changer and 'bad' predicting a failure. No middle ground anyone?

Also, I just want to add one thing.

Can GW2 and WOW not skip hand in hand into the future? Seriously, why does GW2 have to 'kill' every other game out there to be a success?

Ok, I've wasted enough time this morning on this forum. Time to go write a paper. About Music.

I think that "polish" out of the gate will have a lot to do with success of GW2.  Rift had a lot of polish and it was (for the most part) a relative success.  SWTOR had the big names with Bioware and Star Wars to draw a good crowd.  GW2 doesn't have that big name but they do have GW1 that they have been able to polish over the years.  They will have those current players as a base and now they have the buzz of the gaming community.  Most MMO players have played WoW before and for years they have had a lot of polish in their game.  I'm talking about the graphics engine accomidating a wide number of machines, abilities going off when they should, dungeons running properly, etc...   ANet seems like a company who genuinely want gamers to have fun while playing their product.  I just hope they are ready at release.

"Polish" wont make a bad game good but lack of polish can and will kill a potentially good MMO.

To be honest are most MMO devs rather sloppy with stuff like this and think they can optimize the game after release (but yet they often never fix it) and that turned some pretty good games into huge failures, Vanguard comes to mind but SWG is another good example of something that could have been really good. In the last case instead of fixing the bugs they revamped the game mechanics.

I think this game have the potential of making it big but I don´t think it will be as big as Wow, B2P or not. Wow had little competition at launch and is a very easy game to start playing for none gamers as well as old MMO players. I think GW2 will be a lot harder for beginners. My bet is that it will sell about twice the number of GW1 and be rather large but it will never be close to Wows 12,5 million active players the same month.

And yeah, GW doesn't have a subscription model. They just release paid for game expansions that happen to coincide with what you'd actually pay in sub money.  But hey, I don't begrudge them their revenue model.

It's funny how every person that posts crap like this has a raging nerdgasms with TOR.. at least in their post's history. I guess you just can't stay in your own forum section can you? How is $90 same.. or nay.. similar to $60 that expansions would cost? Or better yet don't all p2p games also release new expansions? Oh well.. I'll stop feeding the troll now..

I think this is a great achievement. Better than other betas I know about, by a long shot.

And all this back and forth about math between the stupid, the very stupid, and the highly amused was some of the best reading I've had in a long time.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

GW1 had expansions and a fluff cash shop.

Wow had expansions, a fluff shop, and a subscription model.

You must not know math if you believe these are the same pricing.

GW1 has been updated/ balanced one to three times a month since launch. These updates and patches are not just one or two things, no they are pages long.  GW1 had enough server space to hold millions of players when it was in it's prime. GW1 was able to hold mutiple tournaments that gave prized money away totalling millions of dollars.

Does WoW have that? Where did the monthly subscription go? Do you even know? Did you talk to Blizzards customer support this month? Did you talk to them last month? Did you talk to them two months ago? No, you didn't. So tell me, where is this $15 a month going?

But if you have been tlaking to customer support every month... then teh game's problems are much worse then expected.
