Nope its the fact that im forced to wear the ridiculas looking endgame gear when they had a perfectly good and stylish mid game gear used to be upgradeable to be just as good as said end game gear. but that was trashed so it can be more like WoW, Or because it was too complicated and people didn't understand how to use it properly... which sounds like something WoW would do.

Note the removing of armoring/barrelts/hilts on that list? That allows you to do exactly what you just said. Next patch you will be able to wear anything you want and still be wearing top end gear.

sorry to burst your bubble but  Build 4 of the closed beta started adding stats to the gear itself. thus now you cannot upgrade your gear to be equal to that of endgame even if you do upgrade it. the built in stats will automatically make it more powerful than yours possibly can be.

    Basically Prior to Build 4

all stats are set by the upgrades in the armor.

    Post build 4

all stats are set by the upgrades in the armor + the set bonuses on the armor itself.

The game also has high res textures only in cutscenes because the engine is not capable of handling it in actual play. The raid / gear treadmill is part of themepark MMOs and has been since Everquest. While I can't say I am a fan, this is what you should have expected going into SWTOR. This is a proven formula that has been successful. And yes, I am sure GW2 without raids will be wonderful and highly successful. More then one type of MMO can exist you know. I mean, you don't have to like all of them.

Considering how few people play MMOs compared to how to many gamers there are, I would say not only the gear treadmill, but MMOs in general have failed miserably.

Only once has the treadmill been overwhelmingly successful, and that was 8 years ago.

And i don't think SWTOR is the worst MMO ever. APB holds that title, but that fact that APB, Warhammer, and SWTOR are all produced by EA doesn't really put a good light on how EA treats their MMOs

The GW2 comparasins are even better. Guess how many more players SWTOR has over GW2? 100% more... lol. This will sound absurd at first, but let me put it this way...you have no idea what bugs and issues GW2 will cone out with... none. Stop pretending it's perfection, when the game doesn't even exist yet.

Have fun with GW2 though, doing the same limited content slightly changed over and over because of the "fun factor" will sure be amazing.

It's amazing to me the number of players and rabid fans of SW that tend to take out their anger on people who are simply trying to keep the uninformed from making a mistake, they should be redirecting their anger at EA/BW for the mistakes the company has made with this release instead.

Keep an eye on this poster, i'm certain that after GW2 launches he/she will be one of the ones who will be posting non-sense on these forums about the game to make it look bad.

If you were actually familiar with endgame gear in SWTOR, you would realize that you are wrong. Right now one of the most popular items to get is a moddable bracer, because you can get an armoring in a raid to mod it out to be the BIS bracer if you don't have armormech/synthweaving critted bracers, same for belt. The reason that the stats come out higher is because of the base armoring that is built into the item. (which you cannot extract) Once you remove that and the other item modifications, you have an item with the base armor stat only of the item (which scales with your armoring rating anyways)

I guess Bioware is lying about the next patch then. Combined with new features such as the ability to extract base-mods from purple items (including the set bonus) and the improved color matching feature, crafters of all professions will find themselves in a lot of demand once the update hits.

The only numbers for GW2 = beta only signups

the only numbers from SWTOR are 1 month old and were vague at best....

Again, I acknowledged that WoW was an exception. WoW has a treadmill, however, they think of creative ways to disguise it with interesting content and other activities. SWTOR just slams you over the head with it when you hit 50.

And by the way 10 million is PITIFUL in terms of games in general. Like i've been trying to say, a game like Rift has, I dunno, 300k players?

If Battlefield had 300k players if would be considered a miserable failure, but since it's an MMO 300k is a roaring success

Honestly, guys.... You have no stamina at all! I gave you six months before the posts would be flooding in, comparing the whole thing as another WAR (huge licence, no game). Its only been two months! Of course I was compared to all kinds of brainless creatures(funny how the mods never ban someone being abusive defending a game), and I had no idea what a gem you had there. But two months?! stick in there at least a month more! I am very disappointed in you all!

Voice over work is really expensive and takes lots of time, it'll be the first thing to go if the population declines so much because they'll need to save money. Then we'll hear them use the excuse that they wanted to deliver content faster and how only a small percentage actually wants it but they'll keep it for main class stories, only class stories will take years to come.

This, to an extent, I do agree with. If 1.2 loses a ton of features from them getting cut or takes too long to come out, they will certainly lose subs. I know cause I will be one of them. I am not trying to say SWTOR is perfect or a great title, it does lack a lot of  stuff, but it is not failing and nothing has indicated it will, yet.

yeah like with STO until it becomes at the very least a patch note on the test server it won't happen. Until then hold your breath as with everything from EA/BW. As it stands right now, the only people misinformed are the fatally hopeful. I don't want them to fail but I'm realistic, there were a ton of things promised by Cryptic before the Dominion was added and they never happened so forgive me if I;m cautious to the "promises" of devs when they release a game like this.

and you've been to the future huh seen the end product of GW2's launch? Not to mention, even STO had a movable customizable UI at launch...and that sir is saying something about how rushed a job SWTOR was.

I don't know. I didn't think the game is that bad. I enjoyed it.

My main gripes is their epic failure in managing populations and all the fallout becuse of it. Their failure in this area has led to several issues in other areas.

That and quite frankly their touted story aspect really isn't very good. Although I think this had to more to do with everything becoming so watered down due to their concept of having a cinematic story line linked to most quests in the game.

Lastly, the game just feels very static and dull in its environments. Places feel dead and the amount of copy and paste one feels when going through the game is simply astounding. It was as if they concentrated so hard on the cinematics, vo, and story that they simply tossed the rest to the way side. Not to mention by their design there is next to no community on these servers to speak of at all. Outside of those at 50 that spend the majority of their time at fleet I suppose trying to get an fp, op, or waiting for their wz queue.

For the short term it was worth the purchase. Just isn't any long term value to be had unless you can stomach going through that material again on alts.

I've seen a lot worse at launch. From a launch perspective what they have available seems pretty good to me quantity wise. The problem is the quality of it.Thing is quite honestly I expected a lot more from a company like BW.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

probably because they blatently took his/her money and didn't deliver a finished product, or maybe it's because they charged a monthly fee for a beta. Either way he/she has every right as a consumer to be seething mad at this company's horrible practices.

I dunno, maybe the past years of trying to shoehorn Origin into everything, shitty DRM, day one DLC out the ass and killing the Dragon Age and C&C games has me a bit jaded.
