World of Warcraft: Fancy Cosmetic Mounts!

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

You know the one we're talking about: That sparkly winged horse, right? In today's WoW Factor, we take a look at cosmetic mounts and their effect on World of Warcraft. See what you think!

We can all agree that this isn’t the most pressing problem ever, yes, but my heart goes out to every player who blindly runs into a battle because there are erroneous partciles blocking their vision. Sure we can take the time to move to the side a bit and run outside of our comrade’s mounts but then we are slightly behind the pack and a split second could decide a fight in random PvP encounters, yes? Why should we take that chance because Blizzard likes enticing people to buy attractive shiny things?

The fact that people pay the insane prices for these mounts is beyond me. Blizzards "cash shop" is a complete ripoff given that you already pay a subscription fee. Seriously, 10 or 25 dollar purchases? I'm totally waiting for them to start charging 10 bucks for apperance gear in MoP. Stop encouraging them to price gouge people, it's not healthy for gamers and consumers as a whole.

10 bux is one drink. 25 is nothing. Sitting in my office one hour gets me more than 4 shiny mounts :) Why not.

Well if the dragons could, you know, actually fight like dragons, I don't see what the problem would be with having them be humongous mounts. If they're flying around shooting fire at people then they shouldn't be in the way because you'd still be on the ground. As it stands, these obstructionist mounts just provide a giant target without the extra power to balance it out.

I used to spend 50 bucks a day on cigrattes...i would rather spend 10 bucks a month on cheap crap in item shops.

EA beat them a long time ago when they started charging $100 for a car in Need for Speed Online.

Blizzard should make cash shop free server, raise monthly fees to 30€ per month only , there people gets 1 fancy new mount per week for free (mailed to characters after weekly  patch)!

    incredible!

character transfer to extramount  server ,which is cash shop free ,costs 100€ per character.

Blizzard ,you can use this marvellous idea for free™

i dunno, you can zoom pretty far out in WoW. dont really see how a moount can create such a huge visual problem......

the only reason for paying money for a mount is because it's flashy. never gonna change.

100 is not much if you look around. Heck massage therapist makes more in one hour. Or shrinks...they sit on their ass and you do all the talking. They collect money and tell you to come back later hehe

you also know that blizzard sends ruffly 50% of the money to charatiy programs.

    This statement is mostly incorrect.

Blizzard donates 50% of the proceeds only for limited time windows and only for certain items.

When the panda non-combat pet was released, 50% of the proceeds did indeed go to charity, however this only lasted about a month. After that, all of the profit went straight to Blizzard.

Conversely, the celestial steed on the other hand, never had any of the money go to charity, ever.

In summation, many of the store purchases never have anything go to a charity. Only certain ones have 50% go to a charity, and similarly to the panda monk this only lasts for a few weeks.

Sadly there seems to be a lot of people who seem to make the same mistake as darkrain21, and use it as justification for the cost of said item and/or choice to go ahead and purchase said items... even though under most circumstances 100% of the money goes straight to Blizzard, and nothing to charity.

If you like a game then there is no problem investing in it.  Do what you have to do to get the things you want in the game.  It is called investing.  Wait I think that argument only works for the people saying time should be the only investment.

I never knew so many of the top 5% income earners played WoW.  Its nice to live in a fantasy world in this economy and believe $100 an hour is "not much".  You must be comparing that amount to the top 1%

I don't see the problems with item shops like the one in WoW. It's kind of like voluntary tax other people pay. (In Norway all the betting companies are state-owned and the profit goes to sports, art, etc, so it really is a volunary tax)

If you want to support then it is better to get your friend playing this game or help someone in game.

Buying cash shop items does not "help" - you fooling yourself.

Besides like fivoroth said Samsung Galaxy > Iphone anyway.
