Everyone at 16 can drive why do I not get a ferrari for the price of an accord. The market has shown that people will pay. They want stuff and to keep those with limited time some sparkle to keep them interested they offer stuff to buy. I demand that all games be equal in time then as in no more instance, quests, raids, pvp events that last longer than 30 minutes because maybe I do not have more than that to play. For the response of then maybe this game is not for you....well maybe games that offer stuff to buy are not for you.
The fact that people pay the insane prices for these mounts is beyond me. Blizzards "cash shop" is a complete ripoff given that you already pay a subscription fee. Seriously, 10 or 25 dollar purchases? I'm totally waiting for them to start charging 10 bucks for apperance gear in MoP. Stop encouraging them to price gouge people, it's not healthy for gamers and consumers as a whole.
It's purely cosmetic and only an issue for completists that must own everything in the game.
Spending money on stuff on what I want is not BLOWING it away. Value of those stuff are measure by individuals and you got that right. I am only saying that because there are people saying paying for 25 dollar horse is insane. There are things people pay insane price for. Who can say they are blowing money away ? They live a life they can afford and want. Nothing is wrong with that if they dont rob or steal.
I am only laughing because some people think others are blowing money away because of 25 bux. I sure hope you dont go around telling people that in real life. "I am sorry sir, you are crazy to spend 200 bux on a bottle of wine". I would like to see how that work out LOL
Funny how Mr. Sanicky makes such an effort to spout out erudite and fancy words, yet lets so many slight grammar, punctuation and spelling mistakes slide by...
On topic, though, the amount of cash shop mounts does indeed amaze me. A lot more than it annoys me... but maybe that's because all throughout my WoW-playing years, I've always been more than content with my Cenarion Hyppogryph, and I've never really understood why people would pay such absurd sums just for another mount that doesn't even look that good.
its insane read ppl saying win 100€ in an hour its normal when ppl work hard to win no more than 3 or 4 euro and hour... sick ppl ... with brainwashed minds..... so silly.
If you like a game then there is no problem investing in it. Do what you have to do to get the things you want in the game. It is called investing. Wait I think that argument only works for the people saying time should be the only investment.
If you like a game then there is no problem hacking it.Do what you have to do to get he things you want in the game,It is called hacking.Wait i think that argument only works for the people saying investing money should be the only investment......
Yes clearly breaking the law to hack a program is totally the same as a separate system made by the game designer for cash bought items in a game. Great comparison.
aah, didnt notice people are talking law stuff here, thanks.
anyways what do you care, since you dont care about people spending time, and i dont care that you spend money, actually the more you spend the better.
you buy from gold sellers because "If you like a game then there is no problem investing in it. Do what you have to do to get the things you want in the game. It is called investing. Wait I think that argument only works for the people saying time should be the only investment."
and i sell money to you.fair trade and makes both happy.
Heck with those huge vision blocking mounts. Give me something cool and almost invisible.
Maybe something like a pair of counter-rotating rings of runes, one horizontal at foot level, one vertical just behind my back. Or a pair of flaming wheels that are boot sized and ankle level.
(Lots of other possibilities, but I'll leave it to you to think up some more.)

Agree completely.
I have nothing against, despite also this leaves me in doubt, buying "collection" or alike edition that gives to player free mount for all alts (i.e. swtor as last of them).
But in SUBSCRIPTION based game CASH shop have NO PLACE. Imo. But is also true is only cosmetic so I have not made completely my mind on this kind of cash shops in wow. Maybe more then bothered I'm worried how this could degenerate in future in they selling not only cosmetic things in desperate money sucking rage.
Wow is still on my top list, at this moment sharing maybe first place with Swtor. Closely followed by Rift.
As long this trio exists all my gaming need of today and tomorrow are covered well. :-))

Why does it bother you so much?
Sure you have every right to have opinion that spending 25$ bucks on ouple pixels is not "blowing up". I never had intention of denying you that.
That still does not change my opinion that it is 'blowing up' money. Same as I cannot change your view about it, you cannot change my opinion about it
You're right I am not lurking near wine shop bothering its customers who buy expensive wines.
Nor I am doing it here.
I am discussing business model of games and general value of money / value systems, etc
If I had same kind of kinda "philosophical" discussion in real life about same matter - then I would also say that I am of opinion that spending dozens of dollars on couple pixels is in my opinion wasting this money.
I am NOT especially targetting YOU.
=======================
Still that is NOT what is most important. I told you what for me is.
I don't like games I play / want to play that they have connection to real life through cash shop and thus they copy real world stratification to them.
This is countering my willingness to play them.
I am using mmorpg games as escapism not cause I am running away from real life (I have 'normal' life ,work, etc) , but because every once in a while for a short time I like to immerse myself to 'other world'.
I do it with good book sometimes and sometimes with good game.
Cash shop / RMT is making that impossible . (I learned that by experience , as I played cash shop games and learned that they were ruining my immersion ).
------------------
You may not agree with all that or seeing all that as not really important reason - cause every person have diffrent stratification of reasons why they play game (to an extent). That is your right of course.
I just don't get why you seem so emotional and angry about that.
I bought a sparkle pony from Blizzard's cash shop. Haters shouldn't worry - the best mounts are the ones you earn through acheivements in-game: better in terms of respect from other players and usually better in terms of abilities and looks.
However, I left WoW because my PvE fire mage was unexciting to play.
Blizzards cash shop isnt game breaking and people dont have to pay for the crap they have in it so have at it if you wanna spend the money go ahead. Now when blizzard starts throwing recipes and enchants and stat changing gear in the cash shop thats when the game become crap and thats when i would simply quit. when the game become pay to win.
I am not emotional at all LOL Like I said, reading this is like watching those silly Occupy Boston people a few months ago. What did that achieve ?Nothing. Life goes on.
If the business model won't work out as sub + cash shop. It will go out of the window soon enough. If people continue to support this model, no amount of "dislike/protesting" will do anything.
In the past, MMO do serve as something we can escape to. Nowadays, with it became mainstream, not so much.
Finally, it is a discussion board as you mention. I am not getting angry toward the subject. If anything, I found it funny that I can just "blow" 25 dollars and make all you people jumping up and down pitching forks yelling murder Hahaha.

Well I am just discussing and showing my stance and I am just hoping that either there will be some no cash shops/ rmt non-inide mmoprg's in future that I will like or / and some devs will try to make diffrent business models variants for same game. (sepatate servers for diffrent business models).
Do I want to make an revolution and ban cash shops? Lol no.
Do I want to have a choice to play without them (but for example in exchange for bit higher sub rate) - hell yes.
Will it happen? Does not seem like it atm.
May it happen in some time when some dev / investor will find enough of people wanting to play cash shop free? Cannot rule that possibility out.
-----------------------
Mmorpg went mainstream years ago.
WoW did that ofc.
P2P won as a business model for some time. Now new models come right in.
Thing is I doubt there will be one single model that will totally dominate market like P2P used to do.
Cause audience is bigger than ever and is quite diverse as well. There will be a growing pressure on pblishers / devs to offer diffrent models towards diffrent groups.
Nowadays many game companies try to accomplish that by 'freemium' model trying to combine P2P (optional subs) with F2P (big influential cash shops).
Thing is that does not work for some of P2P entushiasts and also not for some pure F2P entushiasts.
It may matter and it might not matter.
But many business model are tried and imo in future (question is how distant) there won't be one game = one business model anymore.
Instead many games will have to offer many game versions with diffrent business models.
Not all of them mind you and not all types of games as well. Just some of them.
Do game companies would like it? Hell no. Maintaining diffrent versions incease costs quite a bit.

Just my few cents.
Again you seemed bit emotional but with for example "e jumping up and down pitching forks yelling murder Hahaha" but that's just my biased perspective maybe and you're of course free to express your opinion on other people , that you find them "funny" , "stupid" and "silly"
I don't find you funny , stupid or silly. I am rather bit disappointed or saddened that life showed me again that some people view other opinions like you do, but guess it is just my normally supressed idealistic part of soul roaring it's head again when I thought it is forever hidden.
Anyway good day to you. Hope you're happy with your life.

It's hard to quote you since you like you drag the post long. If you really let forum post/view bother you that much to the point that you are disappointed, then you are emotional.
I find it funny because people care that much about how others deal with their wallet, even to the degree of screaming bloody murder. It's money, it comes and goes.
Simply put, people here amuse me and that's why I will continue to visit. It is free entertainment.
When people do my work and make my money for me then they can tell me how i should spend it. People waste more money on alcohol and smoking then ill ever waste on buying a mount here and there, so I don't feel bad about it at all :P

Sorry but you're wrong, it's not just completionists.
For some players, the looks of their characters are as if not more important than the numbers on their gear. This is particularly so amongst RPers who will often save lower level armor sets and weapons because they match well together.
Personally I do RP in MMOs, and getting my character to look 'cool' does impact my enjoyment of a game. If my characters look stupid in mismatched armor, it bothers me. If other players can buy cool looking equipment, pets, mounts, etc without actually earning them in game, it diminishes my sense of accomplishment over those same things that I did earn through gameplay.
I know not everyone feels the same way as I do about the issue, but I know that there are a number that do. So please don't assume that just because RMT isn't present in a manner that bothers you, that it shouldn't bother anyone else.

The fact that people pay the insane prices to go to a 1.5~2 hour movie is beyond me. Well, actually not really. I don't go to movies often, but I'm not against doing so, and don't mind other people who do. Around here at least, it costs $10-15 a person to go see a movie. In comparison, the mounts last a lot longer. The price isn't that bad at all. I'm failing to see the difference, and why a large part of society thinks paying for extra stuff in an online game is so bad. You are paying for an experience, just like anything else.
It all depends what your interests are. Lots of people might buy a hardcover book for $20+ that they read once and it sits on a shelf forever. Other people buy a fancy dinner out even though they could make food themselves a lot cheaper. Some buy fashionable clothing/accessories every season which serve no purpose than to look good, when they could just wear 10 year old tshirts. This last one in particular isn't much different than buying a mount in WoW. There's not much difference in wanting to look good in real life or in a game. Both are for self satisfaction or showing off.

Yup,not sure where do you live but that sounds bad.
You are forgetting something,so you also pay monthly fees there ? to who ? why ?
This just underlines how ridiculous the hate that Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 get because they have a cash shop. WoW and other AAA MMO have cash shops on top of their subscription fees. Yet, if I got a penny every single time I read a "GW2 will have a cash shop so it's pay2win," I probably wouldn't need to work.
Every single AAA MMO out there, with the exception of SWTOR (for now), has a cash shop on top of the subscription. It's basically a standard operating model for these games now.

I tend to be more confused by those who think that 10 to 25 bucks is an insane amount of money. I can only assume they live at home, haven't had real jobs yet or gotten used to the "daily cost" of just living. In the daily scheme of thing one doesn't even note 10 to 25 bucks being spent. Part of why I always am confused as well by the "nickle and dime" comments by players who feel that subscriptions are crazy as well. That they have no clue to the daily/monthly/yearly costs of operating an mmo-rpg and feel that 10 to 15 bucks "a month" for 24/7/365 access basically to a fun form of intertainment means they've not really gotten a clue.
edit: One more thing, that players get bent on other players paying for fluff items that do not mechanically effect them also confuses me. Look at it this way, they are helping support the game you play without you having to support it.

EA beat them a long time ago when they started charging $100 for a car in Need for Speed Online.
Nope. Entropia Universe beat EA to that for Planet Calypso : 635,000
Long LONG before that - a little text gane charged up to $150 for a weekend event. Still does actually - and they still have people signing up.
heh, I wasn't even going to mention Gemstone and Dragonrealms pay events the auctions and such that ran for upwards of $150.00 for a weekend. Great point, oh and those events sell out still if they are limited ticket events. My wife used to be a SGM for one of those games.

Look at it this way, they are helping support the game you play without you having to support it.
heh, I wasn't even going to mention Gemstone and Dragonrealms pay events the auctions and such that ran for upwards of $150.00 for a weekend. Great point, oh and those events sell out still if they are limited ticket events. My wife used to be a SGM for one of those games.
