Been waiting for like forever, so a no brainer :)

  • paroxysmparoxysm Member Posts: 437

Simply, no.  Not at first at least.

I am now on permanent wait and see for all MMOs.  The drive to play a new game, be the first to do anything in it, try new things, and desire to not start out well behind your friends in progression is nothing compared to buyer's remorse and disappointment.  The MMO industry is regressing again.  I should have waited a little longer on SWTOR or passed completely.

It's not a maybe, because my stance on all MMOs is "garbage until proven otherwise".  And, I have the track record to back it up.

I also hit No. Mainly because I am really burnt on Fantasy right now. That could change, but I don't see it happening. I hope the game does well, and I hope all the people chomping at the bit to play are happy with it! Now, that being said, I did apply for the beta and will be more than willing to give it an honest whirl (as well as be a good beta tester and help with bug reports) if I get that opportunity. Who knows, it may win me over, it may not. Right now I am pretty happy where I am at (I am playing the evil SWTOR..oh noes..lol) as I have about 2 dozen gaming friends playing with me in our current guild. If a large portion of them also went over to GW2, that might encourage me to give it a chance, but the general attitude from a lot of them has been "meh" so far. So we will see what happens.

Yes, I've been waiting since forever.

I'll be buying copies for friends as gifts.

I bought GW1 for ten bucks a couple years after it came out. I'll probably do the same with this one.

I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

That's weird, considering that means if you think this game counts, MMORPG's don't exist :D

What the feck is site doing here? None of the games on it are even MMORPG'S!

Not sure if you're aware of it, but the "Massive" in Massively Multiplayer Online Games is referring to the number of people in the game, not a weight requirement.

True, with the notable exception of McDonald's Online.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

I'm buying it to play from day one.  It offers too much not to.

I'm not first day buying it, gonna let it simmer a bit.

    (got burned by FFXIV...)

But more yes than anything else I see myself picking up a key for this game.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but is that a serious question? Because I'll answer it. LoL

I'll be buying the CE assuming they do one.

I've never been disappointed by the purchase of an mmo. I've surely been disappointed by games not living up to their potential, or frustrated at how quickly the game grew boring, but I'm pretty sure my initial investment has always payed off. I know enough beforehand about the games I buy not to get burned. I bought eve after playing a trial and haven't played it since I bought it, but I don't feel bad for that. I bought Star Wars and though the shine has worn off it did give me that good old star wars feeling for a short time, and that was worth every penny.

GW2 will be another game that I am never sad I bought.

  • KhinRuniteKhinRunite Member Posts: 879

Even for non MMO players this is worth the buy. GW2 has the elements of a single player RPG. Buy it and play it like you would a Dragon Age, for example.

Way to keep your cool. Kinda shocked at how people kept flippin out on ya. I thought the same thing to myself. I thought you had some valid questions. Being curious and asking quetions should be  norm  forum activity no?

Well saying I'm shocked about anything online is kinda a lie, but still... weird.

I usually try to get in closed betas, but at the very least play an open beta or trial period. I never wanted other MMOs to fail, i just knew before they launched that they would.

Games like Aion, Conan, Warhammer, and even SWTOR are all niche games. they only appealed to a small audience, and some would say they failed, the fanboys would say they are huge successes, but they were never meant to be enjoyed by the masses. Each had its draw to a certain category of player.

I also did not care for the first Guild Wars. But I have watched the reviews and gameplay videos for this one, and i beleive it has alot to offer to a much wider audience, whether you like PVE, PVP, World PVP, or just crafting. Its simple enough for just about anyone to play, since you are limited in the number of active skills, but complex enough for those interested in mastering thier classes, just by the sheer number of combinations and constantly swapping those active skills out with each weapon set.

I also plan to continue to play EQ2, but I am a hardcore raider there, and I dont really play outside of the raids. 3-4 hours, 5-6 nights a week, and i dont touch it during the day. GW2 fits my play perfectly, since i dont have to have a second sub, just buy the box, and i can play all day long, PVP in the server battles, and still raid in EQ2 at night. This is a game I can get behind, even as a fanboy of some other game. Congrats to Anet and the GW2 team.

I hope you come back and let us know which game your playing more of.

BTW i voted yes, and i do not need to wait for an open beta or even get invited to the closed beta, i know i have seen and read enough about the game to know it fits quite well in my need of certain aspects from an mmo.

Hahah thanks, and I totally agree with you.  I asked a question, didn't consider something important that another poster brought up, acknowledged that, asked a followup question, and the flaming commenced lol!

It's just such a hostile environment on this sub-forum.  If you're excited about GW2, there's this group of "anti-fanboys" that are just looking to jump on you for anything.

It would be one thing if they jumped on you because you were genuinely wrong about something.  But once you admit you were mistaken, they should back off, but they don't lol!  It's like they think you're just trying to use some kind of clever ploy against them :).

All i can say is that there are some very fearful people in this forum who, for some reason, are extremely scared about Guild wars 2. They also seem to hate the very idea that someone can know enough about this game (which, considering the hundreds of hours of footage and dozens of mechanics descriptions in blog posts isn't hard) to think 'this is definitely worth buying'. It's like they think everyone should 'wait' while they hope some kind of massive flaw in the game appears out of nowhere to put people off.

Thing is, we know so much about the games core mechanics now that any flaw would be ancillary and therefore not enough to prevent a purchase for any MMO player. The core game is good, we know that and can see that. Which is more than what can be said of many MMO's recently. When the biggest 'issue' people can freak out about is the idea you need to take a waypoint to a town to respec traits, which is a design decision based around giving traits a sense of importance, you know the game's well on it's way to awesomeness.

Fact is, i know more about GW2 before release than i ever have about any other game in my 17 years of gaming. I've seen more footage, in terms of hours, of the game than i've played of many, many games. I know, for sure, it's a game i'm going to very much enjoy.

I have two kids in college and one in high school so I will be picking up at least 4 copys IF the game is halfway decent. I will buy at least one copy and see how it goes from there. One of the main draws is that after the intial cost of purchase no sub fee and thats alone is a big draw because they cant afford one. They all work part time but cant afford any extras other than the net and every once in a while pizza with freinds. It would make a nice gift for them and we can team up on line togther.

Pay once to play an MMO with a heavy PvP focus with everything we expect from a next gen game?  Of Course.

Will be a much better investment than it was to buy SWTOR and 90 days of game time, of which I bairly used a third of.

  • LeodiousLeodious Member UncommonPosts: 773

I think it's a good purchase. Even if you don't think there is enough content to hold you or the kind of endgame you want, it is still probably going to have more content that most single player games that cost the same. So even if it'll never be your primary game, it is worth having just to be a MMO that you don't need to sub. My fiance only ever played GW on Tuesday mornings when WoW was down (thank goodness she's moved on now). Even that, over the course of months or years, is worth the original box price.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."
