GW2 is doing many things differently , this game unlike many will not be a total clone, yes there will be some standard fantasy MMO's features in this game there is not doubt, but they are also chaning up many things that have been the norm in the last 10 years.
So for better or worse I will give this game my $$$ and see what happens.
Same goes for TSW they will see my $$$ as well since they are going off the beaten path and trying something new.
Either way even if the game is only fun for one month, I have spent $60 for much worse entertainment that lasted much less then a month.
Hell I cant even go to Boston Pizza for that amount and lets face it, for the quality of the food there , I would be better off buring my money and just buying a can of beans for under a dollar and enjoy my meal more.
Way to keep your cool. Kinda shocked at how people kept flippin out on ya. I thought the same thing to myself. I thought you had some valid questions. Being curious and asking quetions should be norm forum activity no?
Well saying I'm shocked about anything online is kinda a lie, but still... weird.
Hahah thanks, and I totally agree with you. I asked a question, didn't consider something important that another poster brought up, acknowledged that, asked a followup question, and the flaming commenced lol!
It's just such a hostile environment on this sub-forum. If you're excited about GW2, there's this group of "anti-fanboys" that are just looking to jump on you for anything.
It would be one thing if they jumped on you because you were genuinely wrong about something. But once you admit you were mistaken, they should back off, but they don't lol! It's like they think you're just trying to use some kind of clever ploy against them .
All i can say is that there are some very fearful people in this forum who, for some reason, are extremely scared about Guild wars 2.
Or a lot of angry and frustrated people with attitude of GW2 fans who are trolling almost every MMO forums on daily basis? Tera and TSW are the latest victim of GW2 fan locust.
I really doubt anyone is scared of GW2 but i think people are just getting annoyed with endless 'my game is better than yours' nonsense. It is as if GW2 fans want to compete with WOW fans to see who gets the most hate from gamers in general.
Only because people hate attitude of fans of a certain MMO doesn't mean they hate that MMO too..but fanatics can not seperate themselves from the games and realise that saying soemthign negative about them doesn't mean people are bashing their game and vice versa.

This is the internet, people like to type stuff and sit back and watch the fight, I see it on serious news forums, other hobby forums, if people didnt bite and respond to their posts they would go away and find something else to entertain their little minds, as its the reason they do this in the first place.
Dont tar every GW2 fan with the same brush, Shock Watch Reaction.
I will definately buy it, even if it just to play from 1 to 80 or do only structure PvP, I usually do that for certain game like Assasin's creed brotherhood/revelation. Its only 60 dollars there is no sub fee, there is nothing really to lose (60 dollars isn't enough money to cry about IMO). I've spent more in a bar in under 3 hr and not get drunk or get any action from it.
I think a lot of people like to make fuss about guild wars 2 like it cost a fortune to play it. Nor do I feel I need to commit to it like its a cellphone contract. Anyways, thats how I see it.
I'm interested in the 16 or so people that said "No I won't buy it." Why bother following the game if you're already sure you're not going to buy it?
I said yes, but I can completely understand, and even endorse, the "maybes." There's nothing wrong with being a little skeptical. I just don't understand the mindset of "I have no intention of ever purchasing this game, yet I will go on its forums." Any game I have followed, I at least thought I might buy it at some point.
Well, first there are the people who honestly just do not plan to buy the game. They probably catch the thread title on site's main page--which is, afterall, a general MMO fan site--click the thread and harmlessly cast their vote.
The remainder can be explained by two categories of people, both of whom make the same exact logical mistake though with completely opposite results. One of the many dichotomies people can be categorized into is that of conformists/nonconformists, or viewed differently, rebels/counter-rebels. Conformists are enamored with popular fads--be it fashion, a sports team, a song, or a video game--larglely because of the simple fact that it is "in." Conversely, nonconformists loath all things popular, again, largely because of the simple fact that they are "in."
Same mistake, same bad reason for liking or disliking anything, opposite results. The only reason anyone should have for liking or disliking anything, should be based on...well, whether or not they actually do like that thing or not. Unfortunately, far too many people allow public opinion to very highly influence their own opinion--either one way or the other.
Concerning the dislikes on this poll, GW2 is a popular game, which has surely drawn in many nonconformists who despise it for no other reason than the fact that many people are going crazy over it (for good or bad reasons of their own).
At least that's my analysis of it off the top of my head.
^ ^...Nothing quite so complicated for me While the game interests me somewhat - so far the only thing that REALLY stands out for me is the WvWvW. I'll 'hopefully' get a chance to test it (of course, now I jinx myself) and that's what my decision will be based on. Frankly, the rest of the game holds no interest for me. (currently)

Good response and some interesting theories, thanks !
But, if someone dont like it or they dont want to buy it GW2, it is there right. And vice versa, let people play GW2 if they want to.No need for hostility. There are lots of mmos out there for everybodys taste.
If D3 is announced to come out within a month or two after GW2 I won't be buying GW2 right away. Otherwise I will most likely buy it, although waiting 6 months for a cheaper price isn't out of the question.
Waiting at least a month after release and seeing how people feel is usually the best bet.
Nothing about GW2 screams "Must buy on release day" to me.
I was going to, then looked at it closely and noticed things I have seen before that don't work. The pvp system sounds fun, but again its all click and button smash ftw. If Planetside 2 wasn't coming out, I probably would get this for pvp alone (like the sound of the siege system) , but in the end ,it's another MMO pvp clicky fest, guess I am just done with that sort of game play as I get that in my current mmo.
There are thou some elements of the pve that seemed interesting in the combat relationship to each other IE the fireball/arrow example that could be fun for a bit. The world interactive changing environment sounds fun too, but that reminds me to much of rift and warhammer, they are fun, but after a point they get old too and when the population drops they get abandoned leaving you the end game only, which for guild wars is pvp so still viable. In the end thou, the auto target thing is just to the topper and again if PS2 wasn't coming out I wouldn't have much to choose from , but fps/mmo = win for me, it did back in the day and now that the tech has caught up to the concept it will be epic indeed!
"The monster created isn't by the company that makes the game, it's by the fans that make it something it never was"
I voted maybe. It looks interesting, and I have friends that intend to buy it but until I can try it on release nothing is guaranteed.
Anyone that thinks gameplay videos from before even all the beta testing is done (let alone the changes between beta and release) is exactly how the released game will play is deluded. Gamers can be a very gullible lot.

If the videos were highly edited and well presented trailers that contain gameplay...then yes I agree they can be deceiving.
But really...these are like 40 minute long FRAPSes of people actually just playing through the game. They do give you a good idea of what the game will be like...I think you're being way too suspicious. I don't think I've ever watched these long "raw" kind of videos of a game pre-release before and then been shocked when it came out. I always had a pretty good idea.

While persons opinion is their opinion, I do think you don't necessary understand the notion of "button mashing". Based on your post, every game would be considered a button mash at the minimum which can apply if you use such a simple definition. The mere fact that guild wars 2 has a lot of spells/skills that have a really high cooldown pretty much invalidates your claim that is a button mash. Ya, you got your instant spells, but that would be as far as you wil be able to call it a button masher. Going from some of the PvP videos, I doubt you would be able to button mash (spaming the first 2 skill/spell) your way to victory in PvP against a decent Player, maybe in PvE though.
I was getting tired of games that make you click things and use abilities too. Then I realized iv never played a pc game where i didn't need to click something. I will def be buying gw2 as it seems right up my ally. I know many who where hoping for a wow clone gear grind raidfest wont tho. :P
Even if it turns out to be not as fun as it is made out to be after some beta testing or trying out some demo myself, I would still buy it. Because I want to reward ANet for at least trying to innovate. I like their vision a lot, and it is seldom that experimental stuff like this turns out well 100% the first time. I want more games to be like this instead of just playing it really safe and just redo all the tried-and-true systems. So I will buy it just to reward the innovation and creativity, even if the actual game turns out to be not good. If there are others who think this way, I hope publishers and developers won't be so risk averse in the future.
Already pre-ordered 2 copies...one for me, one for the wife and kids (good wholesome family entertainment!). Now, just playing the waiting game....impatiently!
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???

Lmao.
Why would I wait for "reviews" when I could watch hours and hours of gameplay videos (which I have) to make my decision?
I like it when people try to be condescending and fail miserably.
Ive seen many videos seems promising this game.

Voted maybe. I didn't much care for GW1 and I am sick to death of the fantasy MMO genre.
So while I feel GW2 will be a good game, unless it turns out to be an amazing game I think I'll probably pass.

Be afraid.....The dragons are HERE!
Yes. No question about it. Haven't been this excited for a game release in years! Maybe since Age of mythology and Rome Total War lol
Looking forward to EQL and EQN.
I will wait until it's been out a month or two, the hype is over and the whiners are gone.
hehe, me too. What a long wait it's been. Almost can't believe that we might be playing sometime this year ^^
I DONT SEE HOW PEOPLE WONT BUY THE GAME!!! I mean, people who don't even like MMORPG games will probably buy this. Just works for all gamers, IMO
I think everyone is going to buy it eventually just because there is no sub fee. That's how it went with GW1.
