In all the arguing about comparing which game's CEs had what, there's one crucial point that hasn't been touched upon:

Regardless of what version you buy, the game itself will still exist two years from now.

CE isn't worth it, IMHO.  I may get the Digital Deluxe... or just the standard then upgrade to the digital deluxe if they offer it (seems like most MMOs offer it eventually)

I'm not a fan of head start incentives or Collectors Editions.  It's overpriced as well.  I'll almost certainly wait a few months after release and wait for a bargain price.

Just to clear up some confusion

    • Standard        ($60)

    • Collector's    ($150)

    • Available from select retailers, not NCSoft/GuildWars2.com

    Digital Editions:

    • Standard        ($60)

    • Deluxe            ($80)

    • Available from NCSoft/GuildWars2.com, some retailers.

    Pre Purchase: 3 Day Headstart

    Pre Order: 1 Day Headstart

Golem Banker: Same Idea as http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Mercantile_Summoning_Stone

Mystfire Wolf Spell: Same idea as http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Igneous_Summoning_Stone

Chalice of Glory: Glory is the currency used for Structured PvP, and is used for cosmetic gear. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glory)

Tome of Influence: Powerlevel your guild, I guess. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Influence)

they're going to make 90% of their money through box sales, so i think the price makes sense.

He is talking about the higher price for europeans, not the high pricing in general. CE is 33% more expensive for europeans ($200).

And the extra $20 for the DD, and I get a couple 'less-than' 5 day cash shop style trinkets that will be gone in the first week of play? Seriously?!?!?!

I'm sorry, I have enough pocket cash to drop for 5 CE right now if I thought it was worth the money, but I am just not seeing anything but greed on thier end for these 3 versions. I can't believe I'm the only one who sees this.

You're definitely not the only one, I think it is seriously overpriced.

$60 for a digital download game that has no further subscription or monetary requirement is pretty damned reasonable.  Most other games are costing you this much after the first month of play, if not up front, and then only continue to siphon your wallet.

Perspective is a great thing when you have it.

And yet people end up paying more in cash shops in F2P and B2P models. You are right perspective is a great thing since gaming habits are not the same for everyone. But i think you are making a big deal out of monthly sub; believe it or not but people are not that stingy with 12 to 15 bucks a month which is just a pocket change. if it was WOW wouldn't have the sub numbers it has today. People just want a good and fun game to play. Unless someone is still living on allowance or social aid i can understand that monthly sub is a big deal.

Even I understand that for some people 150€ is too much for a game (for me too), I don't understand the comparison to the old republic CE when SWtOR has a monthly subscription additionaly.

GW2 is B2P after all and if it turns out to be at least  as good as GW 1 is, it would be like paying 150€ for a 5 years gametime which in my opinion is more than a fair deal and cheap in the long run when you compare the prices of 120€ + for PS3 or XBox games with like 20 - 50 hours gameplay max or even offline PC games like Shogun total war as example.

Other than that it's not the only edition they are offering so if its too pricey for you just pick up one of the cheaper editions like I will do.

I have a question, IF I were to buy the CE from Gamestop/EBGames and paid it in Full! Would I get a prepurchase code to play 3 day headstart or since I did not buy online, I only get 1 day only?

If i do get 3 days from retailer, does it have the same effect for the standard edition?

  • MoiaxMoiax Member Posts: 22

As long as you pay the full amount, you will get the 3 days.  Which retailers offer which versions has yet to be determined.

  • RazeeksterRazeekster Member UncommonPosts: 2,591

I would have totally bought the CE, but then I saw the digital items and was like, "what the hell?!" Three of the 5 digital items aren't even permenant items, and that's just such a huge turn off for me. I do really want the soundtrack though. I bet that would be amazing to listen to.

    Digital Deluxe x2

Thank you for not requiring us to kill more trees and get a physical box to have the digital items.

I feel the CE is a little high, but I get that i dont "have" to buy it. However, for the price I would like to see something al ittle different. What I am more interested in is the DE, but the limited day usage on the digial items is kinda lame. There needs to be more permanent items involved.

I just can't resist, I have to get this. There is NO game I want to play more ever since I started learning about this game over a year ago. And the sooner the better for me. So of corse the early access is the big selling point for myself.

But even still, this is one of the best collectors editions I have ever seen.

Only things I wish were included would be an offical GW2 T-shirt and a making of DVD.

    That doesn't make it right.

"$6 dollars for a gallon of gas? Are they crazy?"

"Well the last station was charging $6 dollars for a gallon of gas and his gas was 25% ethanol."

    The gas is still overpriced.

Imagine knowing the game since 2007...from high school to uni.........and Im graduating this year.......holy shit thats long xD

Honestly, I don't understand why people complain about a collector edition, wouldn't most people buy the standard or the digital deluxe anyway? Collector's edition is for collectors, yet normal players thinks everything should be avaliable for them for the minimal investment.

Never been much for CE editions myself, but this package doesn't look bad.  Lets hope that GW2 doesn't fall prey to the One True Game(tm) syndrome, given all of the hype that we are seeing.  These days, all I really look for is a game thats entertaining. I quit chasing the One True Game(tm), years ago.

Watch the end of the Bill Murphy, Jon Peters chat here @ 39:30 and you can see why the CE is priced at $149.

To those of you thinking the per-order coming up means the release will be soon. ToR preorder was in July and the game came out at the end of December.  You could easily still have 6 months to wait.

    Ugh.

You guys think you got it bad?

The uk editions are even more expensive -.-

The standard edition is 50 pounds. Deluxe is 65 pounds.

    Just for the digitals =/

I have no issues with the price being so high, i expected it...my issue is that theyre charging a good 15-20$+ more on the uk's standard edition, and then even more on the deluxe.

Im getting the SE, the digital items suck IMO. ANet should really take a 2nd look at that and add more quality. Most of the items are temp and whats not I am not intrested in.
