I am not going to defend SWTOR, hell I am not even speaking specifically about SWTOR, but just the vibe in general on these forums.

Don't play a game if you don't like it, even flame away if you bought it and feel burned, but damn, some people just cannot seem to let a bad game--any game--go.

QFT.  It never ceases to amaze me, not in that people have negative comments about a game, but their need to voice them over and over and over several times a day, particularly when they don't play it, and have no interest in playing it.

It's like me going to a Glee forum day in, day out just ripping on the show.  It WILL NEVER BE a show I like, and THEY'll NEVER REPLACE IT with a show that I do like.  Their time would be better spent verifying thread counts on their bedsheets.

Agreed. I've never liked EVE or Darkfall, yet I've never felt the need to voice that opinion ad naseum  on their forums.I prefer to spend my time in forums of things I have interest in, not the opposite. I sometimes wonder if this site is seen by some as therapy for those who can't seem to find an MMO they like.

That's because EvE and Darkfall players aren't so delusional. They don't cram it down your throat in 60 posts a day. They do have to constantly deal with thempark fanbois constantly telling them why their game cna never succeed.

I don't believe that XFIRE is representative of all gamers, no. It may well represent the type of gamers that play WoW (read into that what you will). I just don't know anyone who uses xfire anymore. Grated, I don't know a lot of people. What i'm saying is that XFIRE MAY not be accurate. All I have is my own experience of seeing new people all over the place, interacting with them and learning that are not alts of bored 50s.

The super uber mega fanboys of this site like DarkPony , have cancelled after only 2 months.

And that guy was fanboying for at least a year, and would give you hell if you dared to say anything.

I was telling such as him, to write to me in a year time. Guess i was overly optimistid , they dont dare to show their faces even after 2 months ... lol

There are plenty of players enjoying themselves, myself included.  I just decided to sub after my 30 days.  First time in 3 years I've subbed to anything I think.  Aion in '09 was my last sub (I know not the best idea).   I'll be the first person  to acknowledge all the flaws inherent in the title (just look at a couple of my recent posts), but it's still the most enjoyment I've gotten out of an MMO in quite some time.

In fact, the more I play the more I enjoy.  I'm a slow going guy so I got a sorc to 50 and am now trying out the BH.  I'm really loving the combat on the BH because almost every single ability is usable on the move.  This actually lends itself to PvP excellently.  It's the exact opposite of those games where I'm locked in a skill animation and lose control of my character in order to use any abilities.  Which makes it an even greater shame that it's non-existant outside of WZs.

Again I can only speak about my experience.  For the entire world this might be the worst game ever made, but I am having fun and that's all I care about.  The game has a ton of problems that can be easily pointed out and acknowledged, but so does every game, especially MMO, out there.

WOW was only an example. SWTOR seems to be the only game that Xfire is not being accurate for

Your experiences only hold merit if you are playing on loads of other servers, preferably ALL of them, and on them all at the same time.

  • ProfGetzProfGetz Member UncommonPosts: 182

And XFIRE can only be accurate if it is completely representative of the gaming population and it is used.

This is going no where. I state my experience, others say, "you're wrong". Ok, well, not much else to say I guess. I'll go back to paying a game I enjoy. You all can get back to forum PvP. Best of luck finding a game you enjoy.

God this forum leaves me in a perpetual face palm.   All you gamers don't know jack about business.  Ideally all games should have a free trial at launch that's why most of them have open betas these days right?  Cuz it sure isn't about the testing.

It's ADVERTISING and these free weekends are just more of it.  Even if the game has been sold to the majority of living people on the planet their continuing to advertise is not a BAD SIGN it means they want even more money.  Just like every other business out there.  IT'S JUST BUSINESS TO ADVERTISE AND WANT TO SELL MORE COPIES.

This is just like all the doom and gloom about Trion and Rift Lite.  A company that has admitted to making over 100 million in profits in their first year, stands at around 550-600 employees, basically gives their game away for free because they are making so much cash, is considering becoming an IPO, has 2 major titles in development in game play space with little to no competion, etc.  Oh yeah and according to the majority of this forum they're GOING OUT OF BUSINESS?

You see new alts being made everyday because of the lack of end game content and boredom. I for one stopped playing and unfortunately still have a subscription for my 6 year old that wants to play. He's even gotten bored and tired of it so I'll be canceling after the 3 months is up on the sub.

The game is outdated, boring, the community blows, and the end game is lacking and non-existant. Coupled with the lack of SIGNIFICANT patches since beta, you have an incomplete product that is only being played because of the Star Wars IP attachment and glow sticks everyone gets to run around with.

Actually its about 1.7m sales, thats copies they have sold not still active subscriptions.

Actually you're lieing, it is 1.7M Subs, they had 2 million SALES.

That's why the majority of this forum will never own a business. It  makes perfect sense to offer the free weekend and advertise it. Many gamers refuse to play MMOs because of the huge investment and want to at least be able to try it out first. This allows them to do that.

No it is not fact, it was something a EA suit said. And he said that they had nearly 1.7 million subs and of those a vast majority were past the free month. That is the only fact, that an EA suit said this, not that it is actually true.

I mean we all know that EA has no invested interest in the alleged success of SW:TOR right?

That doesn't mean they can just make up numbers and hand them over to investors. Doing so would be taking a huge risk and for what? It's not like TOR is the only product EA cares about, nor is it a product they would have a reason to bet their business on, not to mention the CEO lay his job on the line for..

Xfire is only being inaccurate as the stats are not showing in favour of SWTOR, but it has been accuarte for every other game out there.

I am not saying your experiences are wrong, no doubt your server is doing good, but if you are not willing to investigate other servers, then saying SWTOR is thriving based on your 1 server, is far less accurate than Xfire.

SWG was doing good if you were on Starsider, it was full to the brim with players, but look where that game is now - closed

I highly doubt they're lying. Thing is once again since they're using "vast majority" the actual number is up to interpretation.

I love these EA statements though. Pure gold really. They gave the exact same statement two months in a row. Now the guy is quoted again essentially saying the same thing but wait...this time it isn't just the majority. No, no, it is the vast majority. Of the same 1.7 million figure.
