Click a tab, add an item, write a name, hit send; or, click tab, place item wait for accept, hit accept. I fail to see how one is any easier than the other.
Where do I have to write a name when I do an trade? Just saying................................
If you stand right next to the person, or you're in a party with him, you wont have to write his name at all... you just rightclick him and choose "send mail," put the item in the window and press send.
But I can see this system being negative for item switching... then again: this game isnt really heavy on purplez, not like your risking an "Awsomesauce Wtf-Axe" very often.
Apparently two clicks more is a problem hmmm you'll have to remember that the next time you make your own mmo. Don't forget the P2P Trading now young man!
Oh just remembered when i was watching Yogscast i saw when he was right clicking the items that were mailable, it had a mail to friend choice on the popdown menu.
Since this is the next big AAA game. As shown numerous times before..... if the community complains about it enough they will get anything they want. You just have to be the loudest. You want to fight cupcake-mobs that are as big as you? Pretty soon you will be up to your head in icing if you just speak up.

Yes god forbid anyone disagrees with what GW2 is doing and has their own opinion, I mean this is the greatest instanced PvP game of all time.
Doesn't sound like it's that hard to send a mail, write a name and hit send, what's the difference between a mail interface and a trade interface?
To most people myself included to open a trade window with someone is very seamless and easy, doing a whole in game mail while not the hardest thing in the world is not exaclty easier then opening a trade window no matter how you want to spin it.
Is there really that little to complain about when it comes to GW2 that people must harp on the most minor of things? If there is a cash on delivery option, which I'm sure there will be, what exactly is the issue?
To most people this is a good thing, having mail access anywhere and being able to mail from anywhere is a boon...... "Oh crap I'm full, lets go back to town....... oh wait let me just mail some of this stuff drr....".
You gain here, there is nothing lost but a redundant system thats no longer needed with this new mechanic.
Sure.... it's seamless and easy to open a trade window, Just as it's seamless and easy to open up a mail window especially when your allowed to send and recieve mail anywhere. Your right, it won't exactly be easier to do the mail than it is to do the trade, but it's not any harder no matter how you want to spin it.

lol no... most of the time opening a trade window with another player is a mini PITA.
Click accept.... did you get it... you cancelled... try again... gah...
Banging out a mail that goes right to them? How can anything be eaiser then that? The simple fact is that in this game, with this system, direct trading is redundent. Well done to ANet for trimming away fat IMO.
Some people's inability to cope with new ways of thinking, even on this scale, does scare me though.
What all the rabid fanboys seem to be blissfully glossing over is that TRADING ITEMS IS NOT SECURE this way.
If i want to trade my uber sword of killing for your mega knives of slashing, at the moment, using the mail interface, there is NOTHING to stop you running away with my uber sword and not sending back the mega knives.
The marketplace argument is a complete fail. Having to use the auction house to trade an item with someone you are standing next to is just stupid and time consuming. Instead of just clicking on them, opening trade window and you put your item they put their item and both click confirm, you have to go into AH, create a trade, add the item, add what you want for it in return, submit, wait for marketplace to update. Then the person you want to trade with has to search for the name of the item you are trying to trade them (hoping the ah has updated with your new trade) and find the right one to make sure its you and not someone else, then complete the trade. Talk about long winded just to trade loot with soemone in a PUG.
All of these things could be fixed with a direct player to player trade.

Man is there anything in this game you people wont bring here and complain about?
It's because the game is so good that we've been reduced to nit picking at little things. "The lighting is a bit funny" "Trading through mail onry?" "No mounts?" "Not open world enough" -lol
MMO's are the ark of the gaming world. Let it take us in new directions.

Every MMO is nitpicked before release, the real storm rises when game is actually released. Although people do have lots of real concern with GW2, this thread is not one of those.
What all the rabid fanboys seem to be blissfully glossing.. /snip
Why do you have to insult and troll people right from the start? What does it gain you?
Personally, it made me stop reading right there, which is shame if you actually had a point.

So unless mailing include an exchange item vs item feature, you really can't say email is a trading feature. Email is just a sending/receiving feature, it never secured an exchange.
editing once more to say that market is the same, it is not an exchange feature, in a market you sell your item for gold, you cannot trade an item for an other one, you have to sell it for gold, which is not very convenient to say the least.
It feels weird but I guess it could kind of work... wanna trade with your guildmate? Use mail. Wanna trade with a stranger? I might be missing something here but unless you'd want to trade with a specific stranger for some reason, the marketplace should suffice.
But of course, I'd prefer it if they implemented the ol' tried-and-true way of doing character-to-character trading.

I think you are right. I like the idea of the trade screen popping up but since the mail system is built right into your UI it shouldn't matter much.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
OK, so the mail system is instant and you can use it from your UI which is great, carrier pigeons ftw as someone else said
However, using the marketplace sounds even more complicated. Very longwinded just to trade a peice of gear to a team mate.
If you are trading with a team mate and you are afraid that he will scam you it's time to find better team mates really. Mail system, while not perfect, gets the work done and in many cases provides much more flexibility than simple trade window.
With item exchange in traditional MMOs, say you are a crafter and your guild mate asks you to craft something for him, he has the materials. Usually you either have to meet up in one place (which often means one of youw ill have to stop doing whatever the heck you are doing and go to a specific city, then run in circle till you find eachother) or use snail-mail and first you wait an hour for mats to get to you, then you have to find nearest mailbox, craft the stuff, send it back and the guy waits another hour ot get his item. That's a huge waste of time. GW2 let's you send all that crap right away from whenever you are, even if you are in middle of dungeon run.

Do you understand how weak you argument is "find other team mate"? In mmo sometime you team up with people you never ever talked to before, but you can still feel like sharing/exchange/trade (or whatever you want to call it) loot is a good idea during your party time, it doesn't mean you'll blindly beleive in their honesty (you give the item obviously). So now to do that or you have to blindly beleive in the guy or you have to go through the auction house, meaning neither you or the guy can garanty you'll actually get the item at the price you defined because the whole server access the auction house. Mail would be good if you can get a price on receive, as business mail work in real life, but nobody ever confirmed that option to even exist in GW2 if i'm not wrong, in fact its pretty obvious this option doesn't exist from the video, but i might be wrong here.

Actually there is an easy way to fix this.
Simple command that gives you the item id # for whatever item you have.
Tell the other person that item id#
They mail you the item with a cod and the item id in the cod field so to pick up the item you have to lose the other item just like it was gold.
profit.

That would work. Hope Arenanet implements a solution .
Hehehe very true.
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

its a good way to solve people stacking at mailboxes or people trying to scam etc.

If there are no mailboxes, where are the dudes (playing femaile characters) going to dance (in their underwear) for gold?!?
guess theyll be dancing in the beeer brawl inn anyway :P
https://ashesofcreation.com/r/Y4U3PQCASUPJ5SED
Lets take the positive and negative sides ot that system.
Positive:
-Same as normal trading, but can be done from distance.
-Can't be cheated. Enough time to check if the items are viable/the one you want to buy.
-Offline trading - The seller or the buyer or both can be offline. This lead to app. trading. Sell phone trading.
Negative:
... none so far IMO
Concerns and Options:
-NEED to have "withdraw item/s" option in case: The buyer decide not to pay or to pay later(the seller want to sell the item now).
The buyer, want to pay less or he don't want to buy the item/s anymore.
-Mails need to be send/receave immediately, without delay.
-Option to send more the 7 items(GW max trade atm.) At least, double that number.
What all the rabid fanboys seem to be blissfully glossing over is that TRADING ITEMS IS NOT SECURE this way.

In GW1, there were many scams done with face to face trades, if you used the trade system properly. I would assume they are trying to prevent this.
Snipped and stopped reading right there, which is also a shame if you had a point.
We are not doing very well at understanding that insulting people actually reduces your chance of being listened to or being taken seriously are we?
