Archers max range is like 18m. The closer the archer is to its target the more damage he / she will do, sweet spot is around 8m-10m.
hmm, thats kinda strange about doing more damage up close. In Lineage 2 an archer will do less damage the closer he is to the opponnent. This way archers have to stay at range if they really want to do damage.
kinda strange? how does it make sense for an arrow to do lee damage close up : 0?

lineage 2 doesnt really make much sense i guess
Considering an arrow loses velocity the farther it travels, no it does not.
Also lol @ the video you provided above, yes, that is ranged combat from the looks of it, and yes they are close to the mob because mobs move towards you instead of letting you stand at your farthest range and shoot at them.
TERA is not like the Other games and thats a FACT, you cant have an action MMO where ranged classes can stay out of reach of melee, Thats another Fact. You seem to hate the game from what ive seen, why bother with it if you dont even do enough research.

have a look at some guild wars 2 footage. the ranged classes actually do justice to the ranged component of their class.
You mean the fact its combat feel like every other tab target mmorpg o.o? From most range footage i see all your attacks hom. And can you check the skill range for me? Curious how long it is.
have a look at darkfall. combat is basically like unpolished buggy version of skyrim combat but its an action mmorpg with proper ranged combat.
arg skyrim combat was horrible, to me anyways. Than again i just hate skyrim period =X

i dont hate TERA. i dont really like it either. its coming out soon so i am interested. this thread has been excellent research. infact i learnt that "Melee combat is like 3-5m, 7m being max with maybe one or two skills, whereas ranged prime is 8-12m for bonus damage and as far as 18m"
all those numbers dont actually mean much considering every game probably measures their units of distance differently. its best to judge by looking at videos. here is an example of "ranged" combat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVfVL3LedTo&feature=related
Not really, again i said it feel different in Tera because of your view, honestly i don't see how 18m is short, heck my leash is 18mins and i can drag some one from pretty damn far away. It feels closer because your view is almost parallal to the ground. If you had an over head view it proabably feel the same distance as other mmorpgs.

I am saying that it does not make sence for an archer to do more damage up close. When you see people doing Archery are they up close to there target or are they at a distance away from there target?

Here...pause at 1:12 when the camera turns to see just how far the archer is from the mob ffs...I don't think that looks like melee combat to me tbh.

you dont really see people doing archery in combat situations these days, if they had to im pretty sure they would fire at someone at point black range and they would most likely have a higher chance of killing their target at point blank range. they would most likely still try to stay away from melee combat as they can kill people from far albeit less effeciently whereas someone with a sword cannot.
if you are refferring to target shooting, well its kind of a sport where they shoot from a fixed range, arrows that fly past dont count, nor do arrows that dont make it. you wouldnt want to play a mmorpg where archers can only deal damage if they hit someone when they are exactly 20 m away.
they are far away because they are practicing Accuracy not Power
LMAO, so being far away makes them more accurate?
Well archery is about surprise ... so you are far away not to startle your opponent.
But firing an arrow at someone from 40m or from 5m...well, the person at 5m is going to have the arrow pretty much go through their body as it will strike with much higher velocity.

I have no idea what you just said but when I picture an Archer fighting another class like he is a melee it just does not look right to me.

thats pretty decent ranged, worthy of being called ranged combat. why the fuck are all the other ranged combat videos so melee?
I think that looks good too.
Probably playstyle, the fact mobs move towards you, number of reasons.
Also Mannish, due to wind resistance and arrow losses speed as it moves through the air, so being closer obviously means an arrow will hit much harder than being far away.

Because people are lazy, they just attack whats cloest to them. Also at lower lvl you can pretty much just fire arrow and not move, however higher lvl you have to start kitting more and start off farther away to ensure your not hit.
From what i seem is this, archer attack far away normally so to stay out of harms way, but if you find an opening you jump in to the 7-10m range for extra dps than get out asap. However some people just want that dmg so they stay close for that extra dmg. So i guess its really play style, risk of closer range is its more dangerous but more dmg as oppose to farther away been safer but weaker.

makes sense. simple risk/reward mechanic. would have been nicer if the overall range was larger eg. max damage at up to 6m and damage gradually decreases all the way to 30m but w/e not as bad as i thought where ranged classes shoot at melee people from 5 steps away.

30m would be way too wide, made it incredbility hard for melee in pvp and also make range class OP in pve. Because you can safely snipe from so far away. Also kills all skill needed for boss fights because you litterally will not get hit by the boss if your 30m away. By keeping it around 18m force range class to be more active and have to move and dodge. Also i don't think there a mmorpg with more than 20m range most of the time, could be wrong but my experience is most aren't farther than 20m.
they are far away because they are practicing Accuracy not Power
LMAO, so being far away makes them more accurate?
No it doesn't make them more accurate but it is a challenge, tests reflexes etc. IRL why would someone buy a bow and stand next to a target? how much fun is that? thus the reason for them standing far away to practice their ACCURACY , AIMING, challenge themselves.

Thats why I said it looks stupid to see an archer standing directly next to their target. They should be at range and I dont care if its practicing shotting a bottle or hunting a deer. Archer should be at range and not standing up close. I noticed in TERA that archers melee attacks up close which kinda springs them back to range. Thats the way it should be.

bows are more powerfull at shorter ranges. 10m is nearly 50 feet and thats teras optimal range, 30m is over 100 feet, the arrow is going to slow down alot by then. english long bows could only fire 100m if they shot at steep angles with the win, and then it was for effect, 100s or archers blanketing an area, to actually have 1 archer hit 1 target consistently you need to be close.
even the mighty crossbow couldnt penetrate plate armor from farther then 10m consistently, but it was enough for him to kill a knight before the knits 2m lance could kill him. and 2m lances are the longest range meelee weapon around.
I must say that archery really is Teras worst combat style. I tried one and it sucked badly, while the Slayer which I also tried was fun to play.
I usually like to play a ranger but the mechanics felt like they were made for melee and that they added the archer as an afterthought.
I something needs a revamp it is this.
In my opinion ranged in TERA is pretty fun and I usually don't like playing ranged characters. However I still like melee more, as I always have. But I will still play ranged chars more than I did in any other MMO out there.

Archer bow range is 80 meters. But most skills are more damaging the closer you are to the target.
This what you see in video, player trying to be most effective
