You negative nancies are worse than lawyers trying to split hairs. It's simple, anet has clarified multiple times that there will be no advantage. In plain English. You can go ahead and try to re-interpret it however you like, from information that you don't have. But it doesn't hold a candle to what anet has said more than once. Why not simply wait to judge if they are true to their word by seeing what is in the cash shop? Or are you really chomping at the bit hoping it is really bad? Pathetic, either way.
If only I haven't seen that very arguement before.
So instead lets get mad about entirely false assumptions with absolutely nothing to back them up. So no matter what Anet says, or how clear they try to make it, we'll just assume they are lying outright (for no reason) and fuss about something that doesnt actually exist.
What a fun game! I haven't played this one before! Anet will probably also require everyone to pay a sub fee after 3 months! Oh and they'll wipe your game character if you dont pay 25 bucks when you hit max level! Also, Anet is notorious for kicking dogs repeatedly before giving them chocolate to eat.
Its just all so horrible!
Hey!, defend you game...sure...but that's a bit much dont ya think?

I am speaking out because I don't know...You are the one claming to know and that it's all fine and dandy. It may not be.
Thats the down side of a game that rely's on a micro-shop. If you put the wrong type of stuff in it then the community will revolt, if the items are so trivial then no one will spend money on it and that means limited future content, regardles of how many people play the game.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
OMG who the fuck cares. It s a game, it s not giving an advantage, and even if it did are you going to keel over and die . I m so sick of the whiny peopel that todays society has sprouted.

What? Bending over for what? Anyone who has ever paid attention to GW2 knew from the beginning they'd have a cash shop. It was always a given. Now they've revealed that cash shop items can be gotten in others ways than having to pay cash. So its a psuedo cash shop.
So now? Instead of the game having a cash shop outright, it has a partial cash shop, where you can pay cash, or you can get the items by not paying.

I really don't care what they put in the cash shop because I believe that ANET won't sell things that give an advantage in combat and yes I've always known that they would have a cash shop. Yea but its conjecture and assumption based on absolutely nothing other than they are a company and want to make money. However I have a feeling based on interviews they are right there with ya. Now Im not saying its not entirely impossible one day after release they do some bone head move and put in P2W items.
But outright assuming they will when they've said its NEVER okay to do so (thats them agreeing with your point of view btw), is what I'd call a bit much.
Its not really about me defending the game. Its just me pointing out that getting rilled up about something that doesnt exist is kinda wonky in itself. Now Id be worried more too if they had never commented on the issue of P2W. But they have and they've put it in a very negative light.
And of course all this needless outrage does do one good thing. It solidifies with Anet what not to do or what will anger their players. Which I am postive they already knew that. But at least its kind of a simulation or assurance that yes, in fact people will go bat **** insane if they do include P2W items.
Now we can assume they are that greedy and that stupid, but then again, Im not aware they did it with GW1 and they could do that at any given time right? They could have done it in the past very easily and they could even do it now. Yet they haven't. Then they say its never okay to do it. Then we get rilled up because for some reason, with every evidence to the contrary they wont, we assume they probably will include P2W. For no reason. Based on history or their own words.
Cant really blame a gamer such as yourself for being incredibly skeptical and jaded these days. No I get that. But lets give Anet the "innocent before proven guilty" benefit here. Heck there's not even a case. Its like assuming someone is going to become a murderer where all they've ever done is deplore murder, and meanwhile works at a charity orginizaiton to help starving kids.

Now that is a valid concern. Well put.
EvE has something very similar with Plex's (Pilots License Extension) that grants 30 days game time, thats bought with real cash and sold to other players. Personally, its what kept me playing EvE because I played it for free as long as I bought those Plex's.
Now thats a different game with a different economy. What works in one game might break another. But EvE has a very deep economy that functions just fine and GW2 might just do the very same. We'd have to play the thing and see what problems arise before we can claim its going to be an issue.
Im on the side of the fence, where I know I'll never buy gems with cash. I'll buy them with in game currency if I want them, so I can understand some modicum of worry over this. However we'll have to see how it ends up affecting things and functioning. All I can say is something similar is done in EvE and that works out great and everybody wins. Im only assuming the same may happen in this case. But nothing is proven or fact until we dive into it, and see how it works after release. Im sure Anet will be paying very close attention as well.

Now in this this I have no issues with what you just said here. I will still wait and see for myself before I go ahead and tell everyone to jump in the pool cuz the water's warm, before I know it's not warm cuz they peed in it.
But anyway. While I am weighing heavily the history of GW1s CS and that they were responsible with it. I am also very much aware that NCSoft has a lot more invested in this one than GW1 so the rules are gonna be different.
Oh, and the reason I get rield up...It's not ANEt's cash shop itelf. It's because the majority of gamers just take it spoon fed and swallow it whole. When WE as a whole should be very loud and very clear to tell them....OK ANET, we will believe you for now...But we are watching and if there is any sign of shennanigans here, were are gonna call you out.
ANd there's nothing like that. It's just blindy tripping over everyone to be the next one to be spoonfed whatever they dish out without question.

Well being a critical thinker is the key to having your own mind free of external brain washing. So always think critically. Cant blame you a bit for doing that. Always looking at both sides of any issue and identifying possible cause for alarms yourself, without being spoon fed information is vital to having a clear and developed view of all things.

So just keep on doing that. More power to you.
HAHA! Touche.
Do you always like to lay it on so thick when making a point? I think I am reading more between the lines than in the lines. LOL
I can't say for sure how I feel about this until we know what exactly will be available in the cash shop. So at this point really "wait and see" for me.
I will say those I've seen in threads that somehow think they'll be able to use gems for expansions are probably wrong. I really don't see them offering those, character slots, or server transfers via gems. Pretty sure those are going to be for straight cash transactions.
Still, until we know what exactly they will be offering this is all a guessing game.
i do wonder how the gem trading will go. I know Frogster tried something like this with Rom and stopped it due to rampant fraud going on. Have to wonder if that will be an issue with this game too. I would hope a company of this stature can handle things better but you never know.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

I really don't care what they put in the cash shop because I believe that ANET won't sell things that give an advantage in combat and yes I've always known that they would have a cash shop. My problem with this is not that a person can buy stuff from the cash shop with in-game gold, I'm fine with that. What I don't like is that a person can buy gems and then buy in-game gold get an economic advantage over other players. Cosmetic items (like mini's or rare wep skins) drove the economy in GW1 so I don't see why they wouldn't in GW2.
They aren't buying gold though with Gems. The gems are traded to other players for Gold. So in order to even get any gold from the gems, there has to be some player demand. How is that an economic advantage?
One person has $10 in gems, another player has 10k gold, player with the gold buys the gems, now player A has 10k gold and player B has $10 in gems. Currency isn't just being generated out of thin air for the gems.
After everything Turbine has gone back on with regard to store purchases, I don't believe ANet/NCSoft.
Apparently MMOs can't make a profit just selling a box and expansions. They are not the developer we are looking for.
Turbine's f2p has been a mixed bag for me. I have to say going f2p has seemed to all around improve the experience and game for DDO. However it seems to have gone the opposite route for LotR. May have something to do with the possible resources needed to add content to DDO in comparison to LotR though? Can't say for sure but sure seems to me the transition has gone extremely well for DDO while it appears to have stunted the growth content wise in Rings.
Kind of hard to compare too since GW2 is doing this from the outset while Turbine added their cash shop concepts years later when the games were obviously hurting at that point.

This also adds a real monetary value to game currency itself. Because gems cost so much real world money, and that translates to in game money, gold in GW2 is assigned a real monetary value.
Why buy from gold sellers when there's a system in place to do just that. Which might infuriate some but hey, at least it helps to curtail gold farming. Kind of pointless when there's already a system for that in place.

I was referring to the LOTRO store. I should have been more specific. I haven't played DDO.
You negative nancies are worse than lawyers trying to split hairs. It's simple, anet has clarified multiple times that there will be no advantage. In plain English. Are you being daft?
0. I never claimed to know what was in the cash shop. I only claim to know the goal of the cash shop. Let's not be a jerk and have you pretend like Anet or myself have given any specifics about what gear is being sold in there; there is no information.
1. I know what Anet said about their intent for the cash shop. It is well documented more than once. There will be no advantage to players that spend more money.
2. I know what you claim, that the cash shop will imbalance the game. You are ASSUMING many things that you dont know. Name 3 things in the cash shop that you can purchase with gems. Be specific, and also prove that they will imbalance the game.
What's that? You have nothing to compare? Well then, you should stop arguing like you know what you are talking about.
Now in this this I have no issues with what you just said here. I will still wait and see for myself before I go ahead and tell everyone to jump in the pool cuz the water's warm, before I know it's not warm cuz they peed in it.

Take it spoonfed?
LOL, you are fabricating an un-truth that there will be items that cause game imbalance. Even though you don't know what they are.
The only thing we know is the intent of the Cash shop.
So what are you doing arguing that it will ruin the game? That is simply spoonfeeding your OPINION and GUESS that Anet is LYING. Which you have nothing to back. Nothing.
It's just sad to see you argue without ground or facts, then say that the masses are just being idiots. No, the masses are actually BELIEVING what they are told, since there is nothing else to go on. And you would have us ASSUME that they are LYING to us. What is more normal, to assume that they are lying right off the bat? Or to take them at their word until proven otherwise.
In your world, it's better to assume everyone is a liar. What a horrible way to view the world. Sad.
If ArenaNet stated "we won't sell a sword of pwnage" people would ask "but an axe?" or "but an armor of *try harder nex time, bitch*?".
If they stated "we sell scrolls that give you 10% exp gain boots for 1 hour for $5 and this and this armor skin" people would state "they are hiding all the good stuff until after the prepurchase".
No matter how ArenaNet tried, it could only fail with this kind of community. Not stating anything - they are hiding it. Stating "we won't sell pwnage items" - so, do they understand the same thing under "pwnage" as I do? Everyone has a different understanding anyways. And if they gave you a full list, people would either not accept it's the full list, or "it's the full list - for now. They can still change it after the pre-purchase".
If they said "we will disclose the full list on April, 6" (before the weekend) people would be like "not even a full week, how can we decide in so little time?". If they would promise not the change it before release, people would be like "but after?".
At the point that enough people decided they *deserve* some cash shop info right now, ArenaNet had "lost". There is no way to satisfiy a community that decides to take everything negative. Instead of being glad they released *some* info, or that repeatedely stated there won't be something unfair, that you can get everything through ingame gold etc., people try to beat the other guy for the worst possible scenario.
All we can go by is what they say, and it has been ambiguous so far. And your assumption that gamers will always find something to complain about is only half true. If they released solid info on what exactly would be in there and it wasn't anything to worry about, the majority of people would calm down (most that are posting on this are fans that plan to play the game, but are concerened about the impact CS will have). That will leave the few that complain over nothing to be mostly ignored, but by leaving the door open, they invite the criticism. And people have the right to be concerened over this as it could possibly impact their gameplay, eceonomy, pvp, etc.

Hey!, defend you game...sure...but that's a bit much dont ya think?
And, I can't help my skepticism. I,m sorry. But it's just how things have been with this topic.
so, anyway. I read this
But it’s never OK for players to buy a game and not be able to enjoy what they paid for without additional purchases, and it’s never OK for players who spend money to have an unfair advantage over players who spend time.and it is very similar to
So, they come out and tell you their philosophy.....Sorry, that doesn't mean squat. Don't tell me what you believe with out telling me what you will/won't do. That quote should have been foollowed up with the statement "So we won't put that in there" But it's not. It sounds like semantics. I know it sounds like nit picking. But these are suits out to make money. I don't trust them.
And yes, It looks like it will be a fun game.....At least once or twice through.
But really....You make fun of my skeptisism, but I am internally laughing too.
I see an image of kids cutting through a cow pasture blind going without any regard for where they are stepping because someoen once told them that these cows don't shit.

hmmm, what can we come up with next?
Life IS Feudal
Thats the down side of a game that rely's on a micro-shop. If you put the wrong type of stuff in it then the community will revolt, if the items are so trivial then no one will spend money on it and that means limited future content, regardles of how many people play the game.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
I know right? What was I thinking? Calling for a wait and see approach before dismissing a cash shop off as harmless.
pfft.I now see the error of my ways.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

After everything Turbine has gone back on with regard to LOTRO store purchases, I don't believe ANet/NCSoft.

I haven't played DDO.
i know what you mean. after all the coconut ice cream i've seen around, i've decided to stop liking chocolate ice cream.

Well we now have some cash shop items to speculate on:
the bad IMO
There are karma boosts
Mystic key - this is BS imo, loot drops that you need cash to open
as for the rest, none really to write home about
typical stuff like xp boost, repair kits, bank portal, res orb, crafting boost, dye box, transmutation stones...ect
No idea what a Ringmaster's hat is???
Sad.
