The whole problem can be solved through intelligent game design and policing.
Easy words to write.
I agree, easy words to write. Because I've never seen a popular game that didn't have RMT.
Which means no popular games have ever been made that had intelligent design?
I find this hard to believe.
So because you haven't seen ideas implemented in game design they cannot be believeable... it's a wonder we aren't all playing Space Invaders still tbh.
When it comes to RMT, yes, there is an extreme lack of inteligent design pretty much across the board. It is one of the fundamental ongoing issues in the basic MMO model that has never been honestly and creatively addressed. Instead of doing so the companies choose to become what they once hated and fought against in the name of preserving the integrity of gameplay.
More money to be made that way, obviously.
I could give you three ideas right here that would stop RMT in game right now, and I am sure designers have thought of them before as well, but none of them would make the Dev millions of pure profit. TBH you guys are so obviously set on defending the legalisation and profiteering of RMT we are seeing that you would spasm at any of them and dismiss them all out of hand, so it really is not worth it.
In the end you guys will get the shopping mall you all seem to want to defend, so it's up to you. Your choice. It's your games they are raping.

Change is inevitable, when did it not become okay to progress and move forward in all things?
I prefer the business model that GW2 and many other companies have chosen to adopt, it makes good busines sense, and it allows the player to PAY for what they want, not some ambigious payment model which allows them to play the game they bought on a monthly basis.
If you look at EVE and its PLEX, it still takes a significant amount of time investment to get those PLEX's and then sell them on to other players and I certainly wouldnt make it my day job, because I wouldnt be able to afford the subscription fee on my earnings.
"The problem with quotes from the Internet is that it's almost impossible to validate their authenticity." - Abraham Lincoln
The above companies rationalize the introduction of RMT trading by touting that it prevents illegal RMT, hacking, scams, etc. However, these are NOT the reasons why RMT was banned in the first place.
RMT was banned because it provided in-game advantages for out-of-game resources. That is, RMT was considered cheating.
I'm with you on this (BTW, you forgot TERA - they'll implement chronoscrolls the same way as EVE's PLEX works). Made it a blgopost as well and my readers tell me I'm wrong on this. I'm okay if they beleave that RMT like this won't be pay2win because the 'best gear' is bought from karma.
Hmm... If you get good regular gear faster than the other players (by selling gems in-game), then you'll be able to farm karma faster as well, and thus the advantage you gained from the RMT becomes even bigger since now you have the best armor available...
I'm okay if ppl want to play any MMO that allows legit cheating like this. I just won't go with the hype and won't play MMO's like these...
On the Diablo III thing... RMT there is kinda odd if you ask me. I'll mainly play it as solo game and sell stuff to others. And if I'm right, there's no PvP at all in D3, so what's the fuzz about it's RMT then anyway?

utter rubbish, you buy plex with cash and sell on the auction house to someone who grinds for a couple of evenings and gets a months free gametime.

Wish you were a game designer, so you could fix this issue for all of us.
It became ok the second the GW2 devblog said you would be able to buy gems with cash and buy gold from other players with gems. Well for many at least, there are still some that you see in the GW2 forums protesting this or voicing their concerns with it. Me, I've always been ok with it, but I always felt myself to be a minority in this, at least until the announcement from GW2.
Didn't Eve already do this? So, why hasn't it been an on going rant on the Eve forums? What made it not OK for GW2?
Becaue EVE has the biggest currency sink in any MMO. It's called PVP.

So, a game with out such PvP can not have a large enough currency sink?

And? If CCP is fine with it why care? Everyone is happy.
Personally I don't like Plex being in EvE, but what the guy I replied to said, which you cut out, was factually innacurate.
people DID rant about it in EVE for a bit, but despite what fake numbers they try to post, that game has a very small following. So it got little attention outside of the monocle debacle.

You asked why it's not a big deal in EVE. I told you why....I have no idea what gold sinks will be in GW2. I hope it's got heavy ones. Because there will be a lot of gold trading going on.

So RMT was OK before "The moment ANet announced GW2 would have it." It certainly became more controversial when ANet announced it. Maybe because we can all speculate on how good or bad it will be. Don't get me wrong it's fun and leads to many a long discussion thread.

Actually this 'debate' has been going on for years. Nothing new there.
Every so often it sparks up and the division of the Fors/Against rise up like the tide and argue it.
Nothing wrong with it, it's what forums are for, IMO.

I will never ever accept that cash shops are good for a game...Ever.
there are varying degrees of "bad" but they all are.
My comment about ANet was a bit of sarcasm directed at the fanbois for GW2. And yes there are threads out there where thay have actually come out and stated they think it will be a good thing because it will control the gold sellers......lol.
That's funny when EVERYONE's a gold seller now.
Buy a gem, trade a gem, aquire a gem...yp you participated in gold selling....just that this time it's sanctioned so it's OK.
Why is it okay that someone's real life advantage of being in college or highschool or living in their mom's basement gives them an advantage in game?
Funny how it's okay that someone real life time advantage is okay, but someone using their monetary advantage is not.
Because your parents busted their asses to pay for you to go to college with hard work and money that came from THIS WORLD. Not filtered in from some user in another universe playing god over your life.
I will never ever accept that cash shops are good for a game...Ever.

Of course it's OK, it was put in by Anet.
The reasons for/against are just opinions by those polarized about the issue.
Because you think it's not OK does not make it so for all. It's simply your opinion and should be respected as such.

It's OK because it's the best thing for ANet/NCSoft. Not necessarily the players of GW2.

Bullsh*t. Eve got blasted for opening their cs to the point that they had to have a "summit" about it with people within the game. The eve forums and the forums here went apeshit over it.
Edit: I have never seen such a defense for RMT that the GW2 fans have put forth. Remember WoW's sparkle ponies? Holy hell, you would have thought they were selling the epic weapon of godliness. I've never seen RMT defended to the extent that it has been for this game.
2nd edit: I should also point out that I have no problem with what anet is doing. It doesn't bother me at all. I use to think that I was in a minority on this issue, but since GW2 announced this it went from something that was bad to even mention to something worth defending.

See? That's your perspective because as obvious to this and many other threads, not all the players agree. Some like it, while I could care less since I've never bought anything from them anyway.
If it hurts the game in the future, only those that have invested in it will suffer. Those that won't even buy it should have nothing to worry about, even less to fret over.

First, no need to call people 'idiotic'. It just makes everyone take you that much less seriously and undermines anything else you say.

No.
