You are going to get blasted by the GW2 white knights and the mob mentality on these boards.
Btw I would answer yes, more choices is better. If its cosmetic, like all gear in GW2 is, you don't have to do it if you do not want too. No different then any other aspect of the game.
I remember reading that it isnt just cosmetic gear. You can find different sets with different stat spreads (one set for crit chance, another for power) but are all horizontally equal.
Nope. I am sick and tired of a raiding model being used as endgame content. When I want to raid, I play WoW. When I want to PvP I play a FPS. When I want to do anything else, I play Skyrim...until GW2 comes out. GW2 should fulfill my pvp and everything else requirements.
You mean like heal a group for 3 hours through 10 hard bosses, dying 20 times, and get a, "Easter Bonnet" as a reward? No.
I think what World of Warcraft is planning on doing is giving players hard mode dungeons that only drop cosmetic rewards for their recent transmogrification feature. I think the poster was thinking of GW2's transmutation stones when he thought of the word cosmetic.
I answered "yes" but it's highly doubtful that anyone will be able to gather a raid for cosmetic gear. I don't know, maybe there are people out there who genuinely enjoy wiping for hours just to beat a scripted encounter. But I do know that I've never seen anyone who would. We raid because we are forced to raid, because we happen to play a game where there's no other way for us to get top-notch gear.
MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).
Rare drop skins and materials and other drops are also a factor. Cosmetic stuff is the carrot on the stick. People just don't realize it, because if x armor looks sooo cool but has the same stats as max armor you can get anywhere it's really cosmetic. Really, that's why the "It's just cosmetic" argument doesn't fly when trying to justify adding a cash shop to a $60 game.
Yeah sure why not I don't find it anymore ridiculous then say running a dung over and over to get tokens to buy a piece of gear just to a) impress my friends and or ppl I don't even know or b) get my gear score high enough to enter the next dung, so that I can do it all over again.
I dont even support the current paradigm of dungeons giving cosmetic gear. you have to be outside your mind to think id do a raid just for cosmetic gear.
Not sure where these weak breed of gamer came from that doesnt want to earn any items and honestly believes everyone should be equal at all times. But this cosmetic only gear shit in dungeons will not catch on, and honestly im not sure how long it will last in guild wars 2.
Sounds good on paper, but i honestly dont see a large majority of players farming dungeons for costumes... especially when there is an item mall in game which is no doubt sell costumes...

I'll tell you where it came from. I spent about 2000 hours in raids in WoW in my time and I freaking can't take it anymore. It was a damn part time job nobody paid me for. Now I just want to have a little fun and so I far I have every reason to hope GW2 will deliver it. And if you don't like a game where there's no gear treadmill - don't play it.

Why? There are 30+ dungeon paths with enough challenge to last a long time, and plenty of DE's that would count as raids in any other game.... and they give rewards that you can turn in for whatever you want. Raids don't need to be in an MMO for it to be an MMO.

Yeah people were out of their mind buying elite armor in GW1 when the cheap stuff was just as good.

We like to win based on skill not gear scores. I think you might be the weak breed if you need uber gear to win. In UO when it started out gear was pretty much cosmetic. It all had to do with skill (and good internet connection).

Then why do people put so much effort into looking different? Why do people complain about armour models. Appearance is very important to gamers.

I have no idea what you are trying to say. So selling cosmetic stuff is bad?

Yeah, like the Mario Brothers! who played that crappy game? I mean all you did was beat koopa 8 times. I didn't level up and get bigger each time I killed him, I didn't get a +10 mushroom of stompyness, my princess wasn't even in 7 of those castles.
Still have no idea how that guy got popular, you didn't level up in that game at all.

Gear-heads will never see it that way. I remember capping a point in the open world in WoW (Hellfire Penninsula) when someone flew in to stop me. We were both level 80 and I was clearly better than he was at fighting, but hey, he had all PvP gear so all of his mistakes went virtually unpenalized and he beat me down because of what he was wearing. I think if you really want to play a game and enjoy the challenge, you won't care what you're wearing. Otherwise, you're just looking for an easy advantage so you can "pwn" with no resistance.

Noq.
Neqer.
I can think of more fun things to do than being in an instance, annoyed with other people screwing up all the time
edit: unless I gets some shinies out of it all.
My brand new bloggity blog.

why would i run 30-40 minutes dungeon just to get some cosmetic fluff gear?

There no fun in trying to get 10-25 person together to play. To much drama.
For the same reason why people run dungeons/raids even though they've got all the non-cosmetic gear!

Ballerinas are always on their toes. Why don't they just get taller ballerinas?
Don't understand OP. What do you mean with "raids"?
Dungeons already are cosmetic...
Hype train -> Reality
if the raids were actually fun and not tedious and irritating like current mmorpg raids (WoW, rift, AoC, etc) then i would definitely do it.
Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

We have dungeons for our instances, Why do we need more instances...We have what amounts to open world raids already.
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
