GW2 is NOT around the corner. I also thought when they announced Pre-orders in April that maybe the game had a June release. Now they finally have their first BWE and 2 out of 5 of the main classes aren't even playable! You ever heard of an MMO that's asking for people for pre-purchase money before they even announce a release date?
Yeah Tera's launch is going to go completely uncontested for some time. Maybe WoW expansion, but do we really care about WoW anymore?
The only way that Tera's EU release is going to be affected is if
1.) Players run out of content, which I don't see happening for a good 2-3months thanks to all the content at launch.
2.) The game is horribly broken at endgame, which I can personally vouch is not the case.
I think you would be suprised at how many people still care about WOW.
dead, certainly not..i was in beta last night and it was packed.there are loads of peeps who have purchased this game..only thing that concerns me is the chat channels.i guess the paying players when it starts will behave great.but i have to say there are really some sad cases who download a game only to play it then slag it off while continally playing it instead of just leaving.but i guess they are the usual trolls you get in a game.the sad no-lifers with nothing better to do.i,m well looking forward to release date.

It quite some time now that i turn off general chat as soon as i enter a new game it's always a safe bet.
Its just not AAA material. I certainly wouldnt pay a box price and then a monthly sub for this. Its about on the same level as Runes of Magic...... which is F2P

Got to play the beta, a little dissapointing for a 2012 game. Sure the graphics are great and the combat system is innovative, but for some reason it feels like just another wow clone, just with better graphics and a "point and shoot" combat system.
Though the combat system is considered innovative, I feel like it is not complete. I like the fact that I can aim, cast, and miss (not always hit your target)... what I don't like is that its still a very static combat system, in that I cannot move and cast. I know people will troll at me saying that's part of the aspcect of being a sorcerer. Well, for a game that advertizes itself as having a brand new "innovative" combat system, it appears to me they only went half way.
As for the quests, I knew from the beginning that it was a traditional (wow-ish) quest system. Thinking that it would not bother me after playing years and years in WOW, I was surprised to see that it was bothering me. After seeing the dynamic events systems in Rift and in GW2, I don't think I can go back to the strict and linear quest system. Sure there are still varied forms of quests within the dynamic events in Rift and in GW2, but there still a sufficient amount of a break from the tiresome old quest system that it remains fresh, new, and best of all, different.
Overall, Tera is a good game and it will no doubt attract many players, just not me. For a 2012 game I think it is a little dissapointing and though I don't think I'll be playing Tera, I do wish it the very best.

yeah i guess that would have been correct course of action..but i like to get an idea of what the community might be like..but because there were so many trolls last night it was hard to make out..i mean they were spouting racist stuff and there was no GM which suprised me..i mean people were making sick names and it was allowing them to be made..i just hope this type of thing is'nt there on release or i wont be there long.

Agreed, I would not compare Tera to Runes of Magic, but I do agree with stragen001 that Tera is not worth a box price and/or monthly fees. I would make it F2P and have a non-P2W CS. I may concede the box price if it were in the $20 USD range. Sad thing is that people (including me) paid much more for SWTOR; the worst in Tera is better than the best in SWTOR.

i dont agree with the f2p remark..even if they get 200-300k subs that enough, this game is more than successful in korea where they get most of there money.this game will find its own community.i,m not saying never f2p but not in a year..i maybe wrong but i doubt it.i think its 3rd in korea on list of most popular behing aion and i cant remember the other.
also there is the point that frogster do a lot of f2p,so with that in mind, they may have that planned for the future and maybe just want to recoup costs of release into western market..we will see.
TERA is more than worth a sub price. We've we've become far too entitled with the whole f2p garbage. Runes of Magic? LOL
Seriously, if you don't like TERA to the point you'd only play it if was f2p then please move along. There will be a strong community happily paying for TERA because, again, it is far worth the price.
If you can play the first 10 levels and tell me the quality is like RoM... I want to keep posting so I have to leave it at that. I can only laugh.
TERA isn't that good. It has some neat concepts but they aren't executed well. They put more time into thengraphics then they did into the combat system.
Each battle is not different. It's exactly the same. Spam the attack key use a skill animation. Monsters simply attack pretty much the same and you don't really have to dodge or anything, just spam spam spam. Dragon Nest executed combat much better, however it's graphics are lackluster. They are touting it as some great action RPG but you'd have way more fun killing mobs on Devil May Cry then you will in this. This is a good step forward for MMO's and if more games are released like this that will be great but TERA... Just not doing it. The story is by far the worst I've ever seen. I'm usually a sucker for cutscenes, but the opening cutscene in this game is so uninspiring and just plain dumb. No excitement was generated for me during it. You go from the tutorial which starts you off on the frontlines of some war. And then your riding magical flying donkeys to the main land.. I mean come on..
I'm a girl and I love cute things and bright colorful environments but this game really overdoes it.
I can't wait for The Secret World. One of the first games I don't have to dress like a prostitute in.

It's prettier than RoM, and the combat/animations are better....It's boring, though and I can't see how people will be engaged in this game for a long time as a subscription game. If this is the type of game you love then great but don't expect it to be a massive hit or anything.

I doubt I ever said he'll be a massive hit. I didn't even say it will never fail go f2p or whatever.
I just don't know, i don't have the same crystal ball you all seem to have, maybe you want to point me to a good shop for them?
What i know is i like it enough to buy it and subscribe, after 1 or 2 months i'll decide if renewing or not.
Personnally i don't like the clipping and that there is no raid (more than 5 man group). I am not sure at high end level people will have enough challenge or enough open world...
I played in Tera's beta and was a little dissapointed. I was expecting true action combat, got instead "true. action. combat.". What's the difference? Tera's combat is not true action in the same way that GW2's combat is true action (move & cast, dodge & avoid dmg). In Tera, as a sorcerer I had to stand still and cast; it reminded me a lot of when I played a Mage in WOW.
Nothing against Tera, unlike SWTOR, I hope Tera does well. But... when Tera advertizes itself as "True. Action. Combat.", I believe they are being misleading. They want the player to believe that Tera's combat is "true action combat" (without the periods). But, by putting the periods in between True and Action, Tera is technically not saying that their combat is true action. It is a common technique used by advertizing companies. Is it just me or did anyone else catch this?
Notice the difference: "True. Action. Combat." vs "True Action Combat".

I suggest you pay attention to action games like DMC, Ninja Gaiden, God of War, Bayonetta (my favorite!!!). They all root you/ animation lock you during attacks.
Unless you want an ice-skating simulator, rooting is necessary.
I'd love for someone to show me a huge list of action games that have attacks that don't have their own animations that cause your character to stop doing their movement animations (and no FPS/TPS's don't count).
With the changes they made it's really easy to see how far, if at all, people got who comment on the combat. There is technique involved in every class. The Warrior for example. If you use certain skills in conjunction with others the combat is very smooth. If you don't and don't position correctly you get smacked around.

NO.
