D3 skill tree VS POE skill tree

    1) If you like PoE's graphics/art style to D3's I'm going to have to call you crazy. It's a pretty simple issue of D3 has a massive budget and a lot more people working on it, of course it is going to look better. That being said, PoE is incredible for an indie developer. I certainly couldn't come close to that level of graphic detail even with 50 of my friends working for me. Mad props to Grinding Gear Games.

    2) What the PoE fanboys fail to realize is that I prefer playing the game to playing a skill calculator for the game I am supposed to be playing. If you like min/maxxing and spending inordinate amounts of time figuring out what exactly you are going to do with all of the points given to you, go for it.*** I feel it is far more intuitive and beneficial to the player to do what D3 has done. That being said, I do think PoE will result in more options at the price of spending more time bs'ing with it outside of the game. You can call me a 13 year old for liking D3 but when I am not playing the game I don't want to spend every waking moment thinking about it. I believe that makes you the immature one for letting a game take up so much of your time.

When talking about the sockets on items for PoE, I can only sort of have a conversation about it because I admittidly know little about it. But IF you lose the item you have socketed in when you decide to upgrade your weapon, that would be THE WORST SYSTEM EVER DESIGNED. If you do not, then you revert back to the "holding baby's hand" model that so many of the PoEers where complaining about with D3. Sort of a catch 22 for the developers. :/

(How do I justify sitting at the computer on a Wednesday reading a forum post about a game? I'm having a cup of coffee before class lol)

    3) There was a noticeable lack of this fact throughout this thread (that does not mean it wasn't mentioned at all though); D3 and the Diablo series in general thrive on the itemization. D3 doesn't need a passive stat tree to have a good passive stat system, it will happen naturally trying to beat each of the more increasingly difficult modes and picking up awesome items each of which changes your characters appearance quite a bit.

    4) Which brings up another good point. I read somewhere that someone complained that the open beta was "too easy." Dude it's the first quest chain on the easiest act at the easiest difficulty setting. No kidding it's going to be "lol I just took on 50 mobs without dying." Try that with a hardcore character on the "inferno" setting or whatever they are calling it now-days.

    5) Each game does it's own thing, and I think each game does it's own thing well. This, however, does not give anyone the right to be a fanboy asshat. PoE is for the guy that likes to devot every waking hour to making his character unique and HOPEFULLY better than the cookie cutter build. D3 is for the guy that just wants to play the damn game and be able to change the way he plays it on a whim. Is one better than the other? IN YOUR OPINION IT IS. But one cannot be factually better than the other without and OBJECTIVE system in place to determine that which of course no one in this thread will ever agree to. So, essentially, the entire purpose of this thread is moot.

And to think I read through this entire thread and had to comment on it. I can't wait for some PoE dickwad to read the first negative thing I said about it and flame me without reading through the entire post. He'll miss the fact that I gave it a bit of credit, but said it isn't for me. Then I'll have proof that he doesn't read critically, essentially making him a flamer. :)

    ***edit:

That is the perfect example of what I am talking about. It takes this guy almost 15minutes to explain his build and he just haphazzardly threw it together. Imagine the amount of time you'd spend getting a proper build togethere when instead you could be playing the darn game. Sheesh. lol

Although I could see myself playing PoE if the D3 community rejects it for the long term, I would definitely be one of those cookie cutter types simply because I have no desire to spend so much time getting a character build for a friggin' game. lol

Not sure if a double-post is against the rules. I guess I'll find out. lol

This is an AWESOME video explaining why D3 doesn't use attribute points for it's customization. It boils down to stopping cookie cutter bulds if you don't want to watch the video. Still that is an oversimplification.

    Really?

You would pay 60 bucks in advance for a game with limited levels before you pay nothing for a game with limited content currently? Then pay another 40 bucks for Diablo 3: The Burning Crusade?

Absolutely... Call me old fashion but i like to buy a game and be done with it.... hate feeling compelled to keep paying for content and every other thing they imagine...

Absolutely hate the way DLC's have evolved too.. gives me the saame feeling.

Why should i pay for stuff that should be an integrated part of the game... let me just buy the damn game.

Agree, how can gamers complain about on Disk DLC or unlocking DLC.

When they are paying for unlocking DLC in a MMO.

How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW?
As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.

It's like listening to a mechanic and race car driver arguing who is better. Me? I just like to go fast and couldn't care less why the engine goes broom, you can pop the hood and work on your car for as long as you like, I'll have my fun on the track.

I do prefer the POE skill system to Diablos as it reminds me of waht RPGs used to be about...

I did enjoy the beta weekend for diablo 3 and i was shocked that blizzard has actually done a really decent job..

Sadly the cartoon graphics just kill it for me :( gone is the gritty world of diablo 1 + 2 and in comes diablo 3 with a scooby doo scary feel to it..

Thats where POE again shines the graphics in POE remind me of the gritty atmos D1 + 2 had..

Will i pick up D3?  probally when its on sale some place as its is quite fun  but i dont think ill be paying full price for it when POE is going to be f2p.
