Just a tip for anyone else about to make it...make sure your power supply has the right connector for your motherboard, lol. But anyway, i need advice on getting a 20 pin to 24 pin converter for the power supply. Should i get it? or just get a power supply with 24 pin and eat the money i spent on my current ps?
Your power supply should have come with a 20pin to 24 pin adapter. Just buy the adapter if you don't have one. It doesn't hurt anything. Some boards take the 20, and some take the 24.
Don't feel bad. I forgot to hook up my front USB ports, and spent an hour trying to figure out why they weren't working till I took my case cover back off and saw the cable not plugged in.
Originally posted by fatalblitzz nah, it wouldn't really make a difference. That's what i'm going to do. Keep my current memory, video card, power supply, etc. and when i get enough money, i'll buy my ASrock motherboard that i found that supports both SOCKET 939 and 754! wow, what a save this was! anyways, then i'll get the AMD 64 processor and move all my old parts onto the new motherboard and VOILA! a new computer
Man, fatalblitzz, I don't know about that board. I'm nervous about dual platform boards, and plus, I don't know much about that chipset. ASrock better be good at releasing bios updates so you don't have problems when getting newer socket939 processors. I know one person using the board with no problems with a socket754 Athlon64 3400. I'm curious how they handle going from socket754 to socket939. Layout is weird on that board too.
FYI, have you checked at www.newegg.com. They have good deals on pc parts too and great customer service. Zipzoomfly though recently has been matching or beating newegg on some parts. I always check both sites and see who has the best deal.
yeah rabidwerwolf, i know it seems pretty risky but the folks over at the ocworkbench forums has a whole community section on the ASrock combo 8 Z boards. I've read user experiences and reviews and they seem to have little or no problems with this board. I'll just have to risk the chance and go with this board. BTW, i'll be getting a socket 754 because i might be a little short on money , but when you switch from socket 754 to 939 or vice versa, you have to plug in a set amount of jumpers into it's place. Yes, layout is weird, but it's either this board, or an ABIT av8 which is 30 dollars more. I'll see as the time comes which board i'll get, but as for now i'll be keeping my eye out for these two boards.
I belive you can use a 20 pin connector in a 24 pin slot. I do it that way and it works fine. Also the PC bulding bible put out by PC gamer also says you can do it that way. Their should be no harm if you use it like that.
Nice site, and I am inpressed with the results the users of the ASrock board are getting. Give it a try fatalblitzz. Mighty tempting based on what I read especially with the bios updates and the ease of which it is to switch from socket754 to socket939 especially if the bios supports the Athlon FX cpus for socket939. Get a socket754 proc now and then in a year or two upgrade to an Athlon FX-55.
tehehe i'm glad that you looked at the forums rabidwerwolf. yeah, i'll go with a socket 754 cpu as you suggested. I'll update you on how it performs when the time comes to get it
Just leave the the last four pins un-connected. The four that shouldnt be connected should be the lowest four on your mobo when it's mounted. When I did it, it only fit in one way so it should be the same for you. Hopefully you understood the way it should be mounted. Good luck

Changing over to an Athlon64 3200+ will require a motheboard change as well. I would keep your Intel cpu setup for right now. Intel is still a good cpu. Your P4 3.2 will still be better at video and multi-tasking than the Athlon64 3200+. When I would make the change would be to wait till around the middle of this year. You should be able to get a Athlon64 3500+ for about the same price as a 3200+ now and a Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI nF4 board or an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe nF4 board. for a more reasonable price. You can get them at Zipzoomfly.com right now, but they are pricey. By the middle of summer and this fall, prices should drop. The other reason to wait is that AMD will be releasing revision E cpu cores sometime between now and spring offering a revised dual channel memory controller on the pcu which will improve dual-channel memory performance from anywhere to 5 to 10% over current dual-channel performance on the socket939 platform. Also, SSE3 instructions will be added to revision E Athlon64 and FX CPUs in addition to some other improvements.

Do you want a liquid cooling sytem for just the cpu or do you want one for the cpu, video cards and board chipsets??? How much is your budget????
DangerDen.com makes very good water cooling kits for very reasonable prices. Frozencpu.com is another good site to look at liquid cooling kits. Incidently, they use dangerden parts in there custom config water cooling kits. If you want to go highend, then Vapochill Lightspeed is the way to go. It will cost you a cool $850US in addition to having to mod your case.
I bought some 5.1 boxes and i dont succeed in installing them correct, when i try i get sound out either just get center & subwoof or the two front boxes, with the combinations i tryd, the cable i use is: 'jack to tulp' . Someone from the company i bought it from told me it would work with that one cable.

Does your PC's motherboard support 5.1 channel sound or more, or do you have a sound card that does??? Most modern boards that have onboard sound support at least 6 channels or more so it could be that you don't have the proper sound drivers installed or you need to update them. Note the audio inputs/outputs on your motherboard's i/o panel(back panel): the pink audio input is microphone in, the green is audio out for speakers, and the blue is line in for additional audio devices. If you are using a sound card, there also might be a audio out for rear speakers and/or sub-woofer. Have you read through the speaker systems manual???

Jeebus! $850 is way too much. I was hoping to do it for ~$250 if possible. Perhaps it would be best to jsut go with a CPU cooler and upgrade as fundage permits? Advice? DangerDen looks like a great site, and I like that they let you build a custom kit, but it will require me to do some research as I don't know what some of the things on the list are. Chipset block with hooks? Hooks for what? Hold down style?
Well, im not certain. Would it be ok to jsut use the processor block for now if that is all my funding permits, and expand my system later? Or would having jsut the processor block defeat the purpose of liquid altogether? I am planning on installing an XFX GeForce 6600 PCIe card if that is at all relvant.
Im looking to play a game, but i need 512 ram and i only have 256, is anyone selling another 256 or 512 ram? i really needs this, theres no certainty that i will buy it...but it the cost is reasonable i will.

Yes, i have 6 channels/realtek 97 on-board. I've readed the manual. Both from on-board and boxes, also bassicly the system = used for dvdplayers and the cables with it where rCa cables which didnt fit into my computer. so one guy told me to buy a jack to (1xor2x) tulp plug and then it should work, but i cant get it to work :P
Well, Im upgrading my mega crappy PC so it gets simply Crappy. Im goin to make it 512RAM P3 1Ghz, the problem is I CANT FIND THAT DAMN CHIP! Can any1 give me an idea of where I could buy a P3 1Ghz chip?
