im not sure but i think the 9500 might as well... i know the 9600 does. and any fx card supports dx9.

The word "supports direct x 9" has been thrown around by ati and nvidia and has caused the required effect people panicking that their older cards will not work.
I know someone that actually threw out his geforce4200ti and got a fx5200 in its place!!!
Why because he read that geforce4ti do not support direct x 9 and did not have the money for the fx5600 so bought this and threw away a better card then the fx5200.
Truth is the word is actually "fully support" which basically means this cards have been tested fully with direct x 9 and if anything goes wrong this companies will provide support ,if you have a problem with direct x 9 on this newer cards ie the fx series.
It sure as hell does not mean it will not work on older cards and can tell you i have tried direct x 9 b (latest version of direct x 9) on a tnt2 card(ancient card!!!!) and it passed all the tests!!!
If you need to confirm this get any card no matter what it is and how old and run the full test on dxdiag.exe and i can guarantee nearly all cards will pass without a problem.Yet to hear of one that failed to use direct x 9 fully.
If you want to upgrade your card for better system performance then by all means do but not rush into it because of a notion direct x 9 will not work with your old card like my friend did .
In the end he discard a much better performing card for a worse one simple because of that notion.
Oh and he went back to his ti4200 after i explained it to him and after he saw how laggy the fx5200 was with SWG for him LOL(SWG is a direct x 9 game).
I could get DirectX 10 to work on my TNT2/Ultra, what I'm trying to explain to Murt is this.
The 5200 series of the GeForce FX FULLY supports DX9, meaning you will get all the great "extras" DX9 has over DX8. Better shadders, smooth shadows, better bump mapping, etc. My GeForce 4MX "supports" DX9, but it's only really optomized for DX8.1.
See what I'm going with this?

games that will require dx9 will install it automatically... and i dont think theres a way to go back except reformatting.

Originally posted by Gunblade I believe we should from now on leave murt alone and for him to discover his answers on his thus he will also learn more by reading about other things on PC's..... also just cause it supports DX 9 doesn't mean it will have all the bells and whitsles of DX 9 and performance so with those cards 5200, 9500 you should just run them with DX 8.

Actually you do get all the "bells of whistles" if you upgrade to direct x 9 .Basically when you upgrade to the next direct x the old one is completely overwritten thus the warning (yeah there is one we just never read them) to make sure your computer hardware is 100 percent compatible.
Again all the support means is that you are guaranteed that the graphics card will work with direct x 9 and failure to do so you can return the card. But is it does not have the symbol saying it is fully supported you are on your own.
As long as your hardware has the required features eg T & L,the direct x 9 will recognise it and use it.
However,if your card does not have the feature to begin with(back to mentioning old TNT2 here hehe) it will ignore it .
Thus you do stand a greater risk of direct x 9 not working on the card the older the card is because some of the features the direct x 9 uses have not been invented at time of card production.
So round up 1)all the features will work IF you card has been build with them in first place
2)older cards stand less of a chance to work with them
3)all FX series have full support of direct x 9
4)loads of publicity been thrown around to get people to buy their newer cards. You have to remember the geforce4 is not old and they have to give people a reason to dump them espically since only the $400 dollar fx5900 got a good review while the fx5600 and fx5200 got a blasting on reviews.Since most people would think twice about buying the fx5900 due to cost(amazing card by the way) they need to promote the rest.
Heck why do you want this thread locked ?Not like anyone insulting anyone here and this is one of the few threads that talks about of the graphics card and since this site is about MMRPGs it is essential.
System specs unlike in offline or small online games is essential for mmrpg so a useful thread.
Also this stands a chance of hitting the 1000 post thread !!!!!
btw djin cn you tell a good computer specs? to see if i cna build one

Still say you be rather better off with a ti4200 then that fx5200(it is a mx after all even ndvidia admitted it is an "upgrade in the mx line" with a new name).
If you are worried the ti4200 will not work with direct x 9 games then go check out the SWG board most popular card in use is the ti4200 and seems no one complained about problems with it(SWG is a direct x 9 based game even says you must download direct x 9 before playing the game on box).
The AGP x4 ti4200 is almost same cost as fx5200 and a heck of a better card.Add a couple of bucks more and you have the AGP x 8 one which clocks nearly same performace with the fx5600 .

To bad you couldn't get what I'm buying and build it yourself. I think my system is awesome for under $600!
And after that I'm not done. I will be getting a new videocard, and another 512MB of that RAM.
