what about just a GeForce fx 5200

.....what could you overclock taht to?

    image

  • DjinDjin Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,263

I'm not sure Murt.  Each videocard is made different.  I would need to know the make/model of the current one you're getting.  Read,  and then tell you...

I just know the one I'm getting can overclock to the PRO level.

i thought that its just a program taht overclocks it for you....

i never really got the whole overclocking thing either. i think ima get a bit more comfortable with my computer before i even start studying it. i could become tempted and blow it up... and yes, u stick a fork in it murt. that also helps ur bread toast faster in a toaster :::^b::.

Murt,  you can download a program called RivaTuner and have use it to overclock your videocard.  When you restart your PC,  *poof* your videocard is now faster...

That's the easiest part to overclock. :)

ahh, but do i not need some more cooling?

i mean the graphics card would be so badass taht it would burn up the whole inside of my pc

therefore i think i would need some type of cooling, eh?

    water, or fan?

    image

  • DjinDjin Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,263

Just a basic fan or heatsink would be fine... if you're really going to overclock you will need RAM sinks and other cooling...

You don't need crazy cooling for videocards...

  • DjinDjin Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,263

It's not the Ultra... I'm going to see how far I can overclock it...

And so far I've tried all the Nvidia DEMOs, Battlefield 1942 WWII SW, Call of Duty

hey djin what is it that makes the ultras... ultra? because they have non-ultra geforce 5600's with 256 memory on newegg for around the same price as 128 ultras. are ultras just that much better?

It's the speed of the core and memory that makes it the Ultra.

I bought the eVGA GeForce FX 5900 (The same as the one in the contest)

    Here are the stock speeds!

    400Mhz Core / 850Mhz Memory

    I've overclocked this card to;

450Mhz Core / 950Mhz Memory...  Here comes the cool part...

    GeForce FX
    5950 Ultra
    Graphics Core:
    Memory Interface:
    Memory Bandwidth:
    Fill Rate:
    Vertices/sec.
    Memory Data Rate:
    Pixels per Clock (peak):
    Textures per Pixel:
    RAMDACs
    256-bit
    256-bit
    30.4GB/sec
    3.8 billion texels/sec.
    356 million
    950MHz
    8
    16*
    400MHz

My videocard is faster then the 5950 Ultra!  Cool eh?  Not bad for $239!

I  just got my videocard to 500/1000 :)  Not bad!
