I just ordered a Powercolor Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb....I saw it on Pricewatch.com for 150 with tax and had to grab it.  I know that most games now don't require 256mb but they soon might.  As for RAM i am wanting to upgrade also but i'm not familiar with doing so.  My cpu has only 256mb RDRAM and it's starving for more juice.  My question is will i have to buy another 256 RDRAM to upgrade?  I was told that i can't put a 512 in with the 256 (they have to be the same).  Also the RDRAM seems to be a lot more expensive than DDR....why?

yea, sometimes the lower the pcnumber, the higher the cost

    SOMETIMES

as with pc100, a stick of 256 on that is like 80 bucks

but anyway, it matters on your motherboard, if your motherboard only supports 512 ram, then yes, you will have to get another 256,

but i doubt it only suports that little....

waht's the make of your motherboard

*ps, that thing you heard, no it's not true, it just matters on the make of your mobo*

Thanks Murt. :) Helps a lot. Next time I get a new computer, i'll get an AMD 2500 :).

AHH! I just found out that your posts are checked for the amount of information given on them- I also found out that they don't count the number of posts- they just read the content on them. So if you post a bunch of crap posts with two words- you will lose rank points! Check it out in the FAQ section in the link bar. I am editing this post because it was kind of unnessesary. I should have just e-mailed you Murt. hehe I hope this helped a few people.... even though it is not a "FAQ topic", .... i'm going to stop typing.

    ah don't worry about that

the rankings are no biggy, and just typing crap isn't going to help it...

it's fine that you didn't email me, but instead said it..i mean, admin's not going to pwn yhou for following up on what i said eh?

I just have a quick humourous story I would like to share.  About 5 years ago I bought an EMachines PC (it's a 466Mhz LOL).  Anyways, I always had errors and crashes and the ever dreaded blue screen of death was something very constant.  At the time I knew very little about cracking open the case and seeing what was wrong so I dealt with it (after trying to contact tech support many times).   Well today I was just working on this machine because I am preparing for A+ and I had turned it on for a while with the cover off.  And dam did it get hot.  Then I noticed the cooling fan was not working so I thought damn I gotta replace it.  I started to take it off and touched the heat sink and damn it was hot as hell.  Then I noticed the fan was installed upside down.  Those stupid morons at Emachines installed something as simple as the cooling fan upside down.  This caused the blade to get caught on the heat sink and it could not move.  So I took the heat sink off and the cpu was freakin hot.  I could of cooked an egg on it.  Anyways I fixed it and left it on for a while and it is running fine.

MORAL:  Buy from Emachines and you are having problems...rip the damned machine apart and see if everything is installed correctly.

    lol

    where to get them?

im on a biostar m7ncd mobo is that helps you...

I'm trying to find the website for the motherboard...

    pwned!

    http://www.biostar.com.tw/products/mainboard/board.php3?name=M7NCD

It's not the best of that group, there's the Ultra version, but this is still a good motherboard.

    *EDIT

Since it's a nForce 2 motherboard, I would suggest downloading the Nvidia chipset drivers...  I would also try and figure out if you have the newest BIOS... it seems that you can overclock your motherboard... I need to find out what KIND of BIOS is used...  If you go here I see there's a program called WarpSpeeder...  Looks like some Windows based overclocking program... you can use this to get an idea how to overclock, and when you think you're 100% ready then you will put those options into your BIOS and your PC will start up with the faster speeds... my 2500+ says 3400+ at bootup.

    *EDIT 2

You have an AWARD BIOS... they are decent... ;)

Here's a link to download the newest BIOS for your motherboard.  I also downloaded your user manual for your motherboard, you should have a copy of that... in there is a section about "WarpSpeeder", you should read that... it's about overclocking.  If you want to overclock your videocard... I know "PowerStrip" is good for an ATI card... I use RivaTuner, but I believe that's only for Nvidia... also you should download the newest Catalyst 4.1 drivers from ATI... get Direct X 9.0b... etc etc.... defrag...  uninstall all the crap programs you'll never use.. or just do a fresh format... it takes me from start to end about 5 hours...  not to bad.

    In plain English now...

RAM - 512MB is what most people have, I'm getting 1 GIG of RAM.

    Go here...

You can get into the timing of RAM too.  My default timings for my DDR400 RAM is 2-3-3-6, but I can easily overclock my RAM to faster timings of 2-2-2-5...  I'm not 100% sure what it does, but it makes my RAM a lot faster.

For example, Murt has 512MB of Crucial RAM, I have 512MB of Cosair XMS DDR400...

Newegg.com sells Murt's RAM for $82, mine is still going for $120... so you're saying, what's the difference? They are both DDR400 and both 512MB!  Well, you're wrong...  Mine are made with the Samsung chipset, I have no idea what chipset Crucial is...  I dunno... I just know mine is made better... You get what you pay for in the computer world... that's all I'm trying to get at.

I believe Access Micro accepts money orders.  I still wouldn't buy anywhere else other then Newegg.com.

    *EDIT
I was looking at Access Micro, their site really doesn't have anything good... trust me, stick with Newegg.

I agree, that's one ugly ass case. I have your standard Chieftec case... which is the base model for Alienware, etc... I'm happy with my big silver case... it does its job.
