That game won't even hit 1 million in north america, you do realize this, correct?
Didnt GW1 hit something like 6 million without breaking a sweat? Ahem.....
GW1 sold 7 million copies and most people still play it from time to time because its free to play. It was 2nd place to number of copies sold in the genrea.
that 7 million number includes xpacks. so if someone bought the original game and the 4 xpacs they got counted 5 times. that puts the number of gamers closer to 3-4 million, and it took roughly 7 years to hit that. that number also includes all the people that bought it at launch and hated the game.
a huge IP recently sold about 2 million copies at launch. if gw2 has sold 1 million at launch i will be impressed.
Well GW 2 did get over 1 million beta sign up so i reckon it will hit 1 mill fairly easly but we will see.

You do realize that GW1 has sold over 6.5 million copies don't you? (List of top selling games) Edit: I guess someone already tried to explain this fact.
I like how WoW only sold 4.7 million copies of cata and still have over 10mil subscriber according to blizzard.
Fact checking is your friend.
You do realize they sold 4.7 million copies of Cataclysm in ONE MONTH right? Or are you suggesting that after that month nobody bought it?
Edit: I guess someone already tried to explain this fact.

Although someone else has already pointed out the error here, I'd like to add that I subbed to WoW for a short time after Cata, but I never bought Cata. So, there's that potential as well.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
WOW with all of its expansions (and soon to be another) has easily passed the 25M mark in box sales so that's the mark for GW2 to shoot for.
And as someone else said, GW2 needs a whole lot more marketing/years before it goes anywhere near those kinds of numbers.
But its B2P model may prove revolutionary enough to do it, especially if the game play changes also are what most of the market has been looking for. (and it may well be)
This.
But I suspect WoW and all expansions are closer to 40M rather than 25M.
This got me thinking i wonder how much Everquest made in box sales they may not have as many subs but there over 4 times the expansions.
Originally posted by sanshi44 7 mil cata copies. You cant tell me over 5 million people are playing the vanila WoW. Blizzard was taking sub number out of there ass to make themself look better than they realy are. Current sub im going to be assuming blizzard counting every sub including inactive accounts but not counting banned ones, there technicaly not lieing because inactivbe accoutn are still subscribed there just inactive while banned accounts are deleated and no longer exsist (I also dont beleive WoW ever had 12mil active account active at the same time).
Well....actually.....up until 11/21/08 Blizzard defined a subscriber this way:
"World of Warcraft's Subscriber Definition
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees territories are defined along the same rules."
So no, it did not include players who were on promo's or exxpired subs. However if you notice it does include internet game room players, and that is a fairly sizeable chunk of a market in Asia as I understand it. How that works, I have no idea.
Interestingly enough, post '08 that definition was not a part of Blizzard press releases when sharing subscriber numbers. So in '08, by this definition WoW had 11.5 million subscribers, believe what you will about the 12 million release because we dont know how they defined a subscriber then.
That would of been roughtly 90% of sales. So lets say add addition sales after the month we come to 5.17mil minus the sub they lost after cata came out because we all know everyone who bought it is bot all still playing so we prob back down to 4.7mil or even less.
Edit: I guess someone already tried to explain this fact.

You didnt take into account the decline in subs after cata came out aswell so it prob less than 4.7 mil now anyway (and in feb 2012 they still apaprenty had over 10 mil active subs, i think not)
Since WoW's subscribers are around 11M currently (if i'm not mistaken), it's safe to assume that at least 44M copies of vanilla WoW + expansions have been sold, it's simple maths. However there are many, many players that no longer play WoW. This means that the actual box sales are much higher than 44M. Maybe somewhwere in the 60-80 million range. That is a really difficult number to beat and it does get worse for Arenanet's ambitions, because MoP will be released soon and many people will buy it.

All the search i do come up with only 12 million vanila WoW sold world wide i dont believe blizzard at all when it come to the amount of sub they claim they have only think i can think of is that there counting inactive subs aswell as active.

Say what you want because I don't believe what you are saying. If you think blizzard is lying just sue them and see how that turns out. Do you blindly believe a random website?

You may not like the facts, but thats one you oughta deal with in your crusade against how many subs Blizzard has for WoW. It has nothing to do with boxes sold, that was just how they definied each of the 11.5 million active subs they announced in 11/08. As I said in an earlier post, that definition does NOT exist in the press release for 12 million subs, so you can freely wonder how they counted 12 million subs, but for 11.5, it's pretty clear.
I think its hard to compare GW2 with other MMOs since it has a B2P + Cash shop model while most others have a Monthly sub or are completely Free to play with a cash shop.
If you would want to compare it anyway well it would need a shitload of sells to beat Perfect world or one of the other Free to play games with massive accounts and honestly i don't think thats possible beating WOW numbers hmm well i think it might be possible due to the payment model that is if the game delivers of course.
If you don't compare them well it has to beat GW1 in sells and could be considered the most successful MMO in its class

I hope you realise Cataclysm didn't release in China until after 8 months of the original release right? So it sold 4.7m in the first month in the NA/EU region.

GW2 is going to do absolutely great. Biggest ever? Don't care really... for me it already is. That's what counts.

It's doesn't matter it will never get as many sales as WOW has had.
Stop "thinking" and go get some facts.

11.5 million subscribers meeting THIS definition:
"World of Warcraft's Subscriber Definition

Ever heard the word ''MULTIBOXING'' ? Just sayin...
Don't you still have to buy multiple copies to "multibox"?

"World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft"
key word is active prepay card in china are counted as sub which means u can play only 0 min out of entire month and still count as a sub in china.
You'll know it's beaten WoW when WoW clones are replaced with GW2 clones.
Thats a tough one.
I think its hard to compare GW2 with other MMOs since it has a B2P + Cash shop model while most others have a Monthly sub or are completely Free to play with a cash shop.

Active prepay card means that it was active and thus used. It doesn't matter either way since we are discussing box sales, not subs.
I hope you realise Cataclysm didn't release in China until after 8 months of the original release right? So it sold 4.7m in the first month in the NA/EU region.
But what happens when WoW starts "borrowing" features of GW2, like they did when they instituted "scenarios" which are simply instanced DEs?
"Loading screens" are not "instances".
Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.
They kind of already did them in a smaller way back before the bug raid opened up.
