Amazing login screen

ProfRedProfRed Member UncommonPosts: 3,495

I have avoided all hype about GW2.  I have mostly stayed away from this site because it is pretty rampant.  I got the beta weekend client ready and I woke up to the login screen with the music and the images behind the transparent dragon.  I brought it to work and just set it up on the login screen on my laptop by my computer and I have come to the conclusion that it is the best login screen I have ever seen.  Of all time.

So there we go I added to some hype.  I can't help it.  I have to give credit where credit is due.  ArenaNet is in it to win it.

You just have to wonder what is behind that login screen.   If its as good as you say and there's a game behind it, I have to wonder what its like.

From what I have heard the whole game oozes with stuff like this.  A lot of attention to detail, a lot of thought put into every aspect.  I have to reset my hype now again.

The client is very slick, fast, reliable, looks and sounds great. I mean I've been testing minimising the game and returning to full screen over and over, most games eventually crash or are slow but the GW2 client has stayed fast and responsive.

I've basically not followed anything of this game, still don't know how the world is laid or or what are the classes, I hated the first Guild Wars as I didn't think it was a real MMO but this client gives me a first great impression.

I do think it's weird you don't install the game but I prefer that, it saves me from having my registry clogged up with even more crap from games that never gets deleted when you uninstall.

I just wish'd the game looked less generic, I hope I can ignore that though if the World PVP is great, only pre ordered the game after hearing about how it's setup.

This actually just happened to me... I was sleeping.. heard some crazy trumpet or something and freaked out... had no idea what was happening....  I checked my phone and the alarm wasn't on..  turned out it was GW2 saying hello....

I was so tired it took me a few minutes to figure out how to close the window....

Dude, my favorite part of this login screen is the first song. The GW2 theme song (I THINK?). Makes me jump around thinking that I am two days away form playing this masterpiece.

Thank you ArenaNet for this login screen. You have officially HALF-fulfilled me with this game. I can't wait to fill the other half  image

when you first play just take a minute to look at the grass and how it moves..look at the leaves falling off the trees and look at the rain clouds rolling in. The game is breathtaking.

Although I have pre-purchased the game and am looking forward to the beta weekend very much, I try to not to give in to the hype too easily. I remember that Warhammer Online also presented a login screen pre-release with an awe-inspiring black orc and all sorts of dynamic lighting. They were praising it as if it was the holy grail itself. How unfortunate that it never made into the released client. Man, those were days, Paul Barnett was still acting like the second coming of the Messiah.

Sorry to steer away from topic this much, but I hold a grudge as deep as any dwarf. Can't await to see the login screen now, though.

The best part of the login screen is the color coded password hash that lets you know if  you've typed your password correctly. The game generates 3 colors based on what you have typed. The color combinations change each time you type a character. Your unique password will always have the same color code letting you know that you've typed your password correctly. This will allow them to implement a lockout option for too many wrong passwords with less concern that people might fat-finger their password over and over and inadvertently lock themselves out.

The client also lets you save both your account name and password.

The message that you get when you try to login is much better than the typical error code, too.

"Your account is all prepared, but there is no Beta event running right now. Please come back and join us at the start of the next Beta event. For more information, visit the Guild Wars 2 website."

It's such a satisfying thing to start GW2 up and hear the same exact theme from GW1 :) the journey continues...

I'm really looking forward to mmorpg's article sure to be written soon giving GW2's login screen a 9.9 and stating it is the most immersive one they have ever experienced. Sure to revolutionize logins as we know it.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
