I see the genetic downers have got up early to start peeing in the cornflakes. Good to know they still care.
The login screen is nice. Very austere and pretty like much of ArenaNet's marketing materials. It was very good to hear that opening music though. Almost like coming home.
I think the loginscreen is worth mentioning because it works fast. I click on my GW2 icon, patcher starts, checks -> starts gw2 (1 second), 0.5 seconds later i can type in my login details.
1.5 seconds till login? Now compare this to the huge cluster**** in other mmos.
No spaebar / ESC hammering due to Publisher logos? No forced EAware logo? . . .
It features artwork with game-music only no unecessary weight. It's pure win to me.

I cant imagine you'll be dumped straight into the game without at least flashing the credits
You can't blame ArenaNet for your lack of imagination.
The log in screen is a simply, clean and artistic design, with the changing artwork behind the 2-Dragon hinting at what lies beyond it. Combined with Jeremy Soules music, it's remarkably well done.

Oh come on, nothing wrong with having some humor over the topic. After all, it is just a login screen we're talking about.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

how does what you said have anything to do with what we were saying?

For the release client? Who knows, maybe a huge "no you don't login nao" NCsoft ****blocker and show stopper gets added. But currently, you better start believing it! I always wondered why developers and publisher put in "credits" like this, blocking rather than informing, making you hate the logos. A decent footnote would have been enough.
Maybe finally someone had the decency to put the ART over the importance of his name?
But yeah that's GW2-Login currently, just ART, no show-stoppers. 1.5Sec till login *hype hype*

It's usually a demand from the publisher or if you for example licensed an engine they demand that it's displayed in a splash on login to let the user know who had a hand in making it but aslong as NCsoft west (from what I understand more or less is comprised of Anet) doesn't give a fuck and Anet not having licensed anything they don't need one.

One could hope it stays that way. Would def be a welcome change...
I have avoided all hype about GW2. I have mostly stayed away from this site because it is pretty rampant. I got the beta weekend client ready and I woke up to the login screen with the music and the images behind the transparent dragon. I brought it to work and just set it up on the login screen on my laptop by my computer and I have come to the conclusion that it is the best login screen I have ever seen. Of all time.
So there we go I added to some hype. I can't help it. I have to give credit where credit is due. ArenaNet is in it to win it.
Your only mistake was not to entitle your thread "My Review of Guild Wars 2".
You'd have to read the Diablo III forums to 'get it'. Whilst iyou might not find that asmusing I am sure some 'journos' don't install some games they review at all. Why bother with all that when you can cut and paste from the press pack.
That's not going to be the login screen for release. They posted this on Facebook a while back.
We’re continuing our journey to 500,000 Facebook fans! Our next goal is 470,000, and the art we’ve got ready for that is… well, pretty intimidating. It’s a sneak peek at a Guild Wars 2 loading screen that you haven’t seen yet, and we don’t want to keep this big guy waiting too much longer – who knows what might happen?

Guild Wars 1 does exactly that since 7 (8, if you count the beta) years. The first time ever you encounter any type of credits is when you beat one of the campaigns in the small aftermath map, where you can still run around and do stuff, like accepting the alternative quests you skipped in favor of others in Nighfall, or collect your reward.

I recently found out that Batman Arkham City doesn't let you play anymore if you change the setting for the movies in the ini. It will simply display all black once you started a game, while still playing sound when you jump, shoot etc., and you can stil display stuff like the map, only the 3D environment is blacked out.
Developers don't have to make you sit through 5 unskippable videos every time you start, they just love to. Or the publishers do, doesn't really matter when you start up the game and you have to wait 10 seconds - during which games will(usually) not even load the rest so once you are past the movies, it will takes as much time to get you into the main menu as if you never watched them.
I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore

Ok, well at least we know one thing...
If the game turns out to be sucky, at least its got an awesome log in screen!
I cant imagine you'll be dumped straight into the game without at least flashing the credits
Yeah the login screen alone is worth $60. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

The hype from the fanboys about this game is just epic ¨Is just a all white Login screen¨, but from their point of view is ¨amazing¨ .
What really impresses me is that it has a box for your login name and password.
I guess your ears don't work. Or noticing artistic style of the whole screen which isn't "all white".
I installed the game and want to play but really? All a log on screen has to do is work.
I prefer GW1 type login screen.
This one is just too white!
