On every bigger gaming convention there was massive talk about GW2. Believe me one thing it got hyped a lot! We are far off from word of mouth...

In contradiction I have yet to see a real Tera commercial anyway (except a few banners here and there). For sure it got its hype in Korea earlier, but we are talking about the western market here. Here it got mostly spread over some larger fansites and their fanbase - that's what I would call word of mouth. Also korean games are not well accepted here, so its even more amazing to see how much of a western audience this game got.

Never seen a gw2 banner. Where do you see them "all over the place"? Tera and Gw2 both had their space at conventions. Arenanet have not even started his advertisement campaign. There is no commercials and no launch date.

    It's word of mouth basically.

Fans talking about every hour, everyday everywhere. A fine example is this forum.

This is what's lacking in Tera's case.

Oh and the mmofo commercials. God that were bad.

My word... NEVER seen a gw2 banner, yet you have seen everything TERA related, even the MMOFO commercials that were almost EXCLUSIVELY at the TERA site? Just which game are you a fan of? You seem to be paying more attention to TERA than GW2.

GW2 is far from word of mouth only... very very far from it. To the point that alot of the people I know have seen ads for GW2, but have not heard of TERA until I mention it to them. What does THAT tell you?

At this point, I am convinced there is some shilling going on somewhere, because I refuse to believe that people are so dense that they do not see GW2 related stuff, even though they claim to be big fans of it, but are seeing everything relating to other games, even though they "don't like it".

Please, if you don't like the game, just stay away from it and stop trying to convince the rest that really enjoy it to try out your preference. If other games are getting props, be happy for them and stop trying to put it down. At this point I can't wait for beta and launch of GW2 so that all those fanboys can spend their time playing there instead of trying to put every other game down. Of course, I am fully expecting huge deception when reality hits all those players, and they realize that the game they have been hoping for was just in their minds. But if not, more power to them and I hope they enjoy themselves.

Glad to know that some people in the industry prefer the combat in Tera over GW2.  It's difficult to go back to a tab-targeting MMO after playing Tera.

I myselve was not so impressed too from videos, talking etc. But I gave it a try... and the more I played it the more I realized how great it is to do pvp here where there isn't any hit rating any more. The hit rating depens solely on you and its so well controlled and detailed. Alone the fact that there is collision detection, you move slower while doing moves etc. There is so much you can take into account while fighting.

GW2 maybe a nice game, but exept the quest system there is really nothing new... and the pvp is horrendous for me (I hate instaned fair pvp in battlegrounds with some rankings thrown in). So I have to say even though Tera doesnt have this big marketing Hype as GW, but it will stand for its own. Can't wait for the dynamic open world pvp, guild wars drama, political control etc.

I can echo the above. Prior to playing in the beta, I have watched the vids and seen the races and frankly didn't really go "I have to play this".

The combat system is truly impressive in the MMO genre and I have played alot more than I can count on my fingers. Even AoC's combat system while admirable was seriously flawed. The key is the animation lock. It adds an element of tactical and situational awareness that has been  missing in MMOs. Before performing a skill, you have to think "do I want to leave myself exposed to get an offensive attack in?" Things like that would not be possible if players were allowed to move around while attacking - it would merely be a matter of hitting your macro to string your combos and just watching the big numbers scroll up the screen  which has been what previous MMOs have done.

It even changed the whole mechanic of how healers play their class. Tera  has taken healing beyond just merely playing whack-a-mole with the hp bars.

Looking forward to GvG, 5v5 battlegrounds and all that Tera has to offer.

I played TERA during beta. It was lackluster to say the least.

I don't like melee classes, so the two options available to me were both locked in placed as you used a skill. Manytimes I wondered why I was even aiming.  There was also the overall grind of the game, pretty badly written story, and quest chains, like having to run back and forth between the same NPCs that were only a few feet apart.

    only wow

    and eve

    and eq

    and uo

    and daoc

    and lotro

and even eq2 managed to recover from a bad start

Its not difficult if the game is good.

Ok, I will try to translate: You did not want to play a class that uses weapons for damage. So you only had a sorcerer and a mystic as choices. Since mystic is more healer oriented, you went with sorcerer. Sorcerer has to commit to a move when they cast, specially very early in game. Things in TERA do not die from one hit, so the mobs would catch up to you, and even when you dodged, they still got one or 2 hits off.

Sorry you didn't like the sorcerer expirience, but you are judging the game based on a class that doesn't play the way you wanted to. Would have been good if you played the game beyond the starting area (I will assume this is as far as you got, as clearly you didn't get your other moment enhancing skills). I wish you well in whatever game you go to, as you are absolutely right about the quests being lackluster. Game shines because of its battle mechanics, which you clearly couldn't stomach. To each their own.

With my sorcerer i could pretty much kill every mob before it has the time to say "WTF?!?"

    Sorcerer FTW!

20-30 days then people will start to qq about how tera doesnt have and endgame, ¨is an endless grindfest¨, is just the same thing that every other MMO before, ¨we want server merge¨, etc etc etc.

I agree. I have been watching some GvG videos and that looks fun. I like many others tried the CBTs and it is hard for me to get through the same old quest grind. How far into the game or level must you be to start the GvG?

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

As soon as you left the starting island, lvl 11-12. But depends on the level of the enemy guild :)

Anyway you'll get ganked as soon as you leave the first city after the starting area on pvp server, so you don't have to wait too much for that.

Starts as soon as your in a guild, the one main issue we had in CBT (reason my guild kick everyone who wasn't capped and reinvited then they were) was that you could kill people for GvG at island of dawn. We had people go to island of dawn and kill our lower lvl for points. I think they fix it now with the new buff that makes pvp beside duel impossible. but GvG starts pretty much as soon as you get off the island and in a guild =P

What the heck. I can play Tera on the weekdays and the GW2 beta on the weekends. I'm sure GW2 won't be out for quite some time and I need some fun!

It's unbelievable to me how many people are oblivious as to why you need animation locks in action games.

Someone painted a good picture, these games like GW2 combat reminds me of that fat kid swinging the lightsaber. All he needs to do is circle around his target jumping up and down and you have the kind of combat these people are after. BOOOOORING.

I prefer the intelligence strategy and tactics required for using attacks in TERA. You have to attack when the opportunity presents itself or you'll leave yourself vulnerable. I prefer this to mashing every cooldown the second it's up with my character swinging wildly in the air, yet still connecting because our hitboxes were next to each other for a fraction of a second.

Well honestly I prefer the freedom of still being able to move while casting or shooting a bow. Thats just me though. I'm still going to get Tera and play it, but this is just something I will accept and I will try and take your look towards it! :)

Well they are different system, this doesn't mean one is worse than the other. I can't comment on GW2 since I had no chance to try it yet, but I will soon :p, anyway i doubt the combat will be bad, we will be different but if a game is build to work in that way it will feel right.

I really like Tera combat system but I can certainly enjoy the GW2 one too :)

PS: I doubt that the original poster of that comment was talking about GW2, on the contrary, i think it was directed to Tera :)

So the game sucks, but if you didn't have to pay $15 a month for it, it would magically become one of the best games to play?  Makes sense.

Except that's not true at all, so it's not a good picture.  The enemies swing side-length as well as overhead attacks.  Jumping "around" them will still get you swatted like a bug.

I wonder what 150 players fighting on-screen looks like in GW2 vs Tera. Can Tera even handle 150 players onscreen at once?
