Beta issues aside, there's a problem with expectations. People are looking for a perfect game, for some kind of MMO miracle that might never happen. Most MMOs aren't that different from each other. If you want something *really different* you should take a look at EVE, not at GW2.
I played several MMOs, they all had issues and I had fun despite those issues. The only thing I actually hated was gear progression grind. I'm quite sure GW2 will have issues too, even after launch. But most probably I'll enjoy the game nevertheless.

As one who didn't get in beta I am very surprised so much skeptical and negative opinions are here. I mean, I know no MMO is perfect, but for a first weekend the roses and daisies time surely was brief! Kinda surprised and I still try to sort out which opinion is more reliable. I am quite surprised tbh.
If you have a negative view or let down feeling, I would like to hear some substantial reasons. <.< >.> <.< (No trolling please, real opinions.^^)
you know why ur only seeing negitive reviews because every one who is positive is in game and has much better things to do than come to the forum
Just remember this... There is about 500k people participating in the BWE.... There is about 12 people talking trash about the game.... Many with just outright bullshit lies. "Top end computers getting 10fps" my ass..... I have a mid range processor and a 2 1/2 year old GTX 460 graphics card and I am running max settings at 66fps. "Same old quest system" Bullshit... Only if you just stick to Heart quest hubs... Which BTW were put there for people who dont understand how to explore and discover hidden DEs and need the developers to hold their hand adn lead them to the next appropriate content.
Within the first 2 hours of the BWE I had hit lvl 6 on my Guardian and finished the storyline up to lvl 11. I finished all the 1 - 11 heart quests, and began exploring in teh woods these giant lvl 11 walkign tree things that were really hard to solo. I at lvl 6 was running around soloing explorable hidden DEs designed for lvl 11's. I died when I wasnt careful but the design of their system is so unrestrictive and freeing. After a while I just began to farm mobbs because I was trying out different weapon and fighting styles.
Spent a while in V8 doing some awesome multi server PVP and that was a blast. Got rolled pretty hard a few times trying to play as melee before I realized you really absolutely have to use ranged attacks or pulls to stay out of the AOE fest where everyone dies instantly. INSANELY FUN!!!!
There were problems with the game, some graphical glitches, some voice over stuff where a persons voice was missing, some mobbs got bugged on terrain. All the normal Beta glitches... But overall I think the game has really lived up to many peoples expectations because these servers are just jam packed and this is already probably the largest Beta event I ahve seen in the last 12 years. 41 servers, All Fuil, every zone I step into I get put into an overflow server for that zone... We are talking about somewhere between 250k and 500k people who prepurchased this game all logged in all day long keeping these servers packed to teh brim and there is very littel almost no negativity in game other then people who think Melee are at a severe disadvantage which I might agree on actually.
No it isnt perfect, No it doesn't cure cancer, Yes it has everything that was promised, and Yes its extremely polished considering how far out from launch we probably are. Best BWE ever? I couldn't say. Biggest ever? Almost assuredly.

Thank you! +1 for this post, if anyone wants to know whats ACTUALLY going on with GW2, pay attention to this guy because unlike alot of the other posts hes presenting the information in a non-biased way that is an over-reaction. Posts like "Worst Beta EVER" and the rest are just silly. If thats someones opinion i agree they should have it, but they dont need to act like guild wars 2 and Anet tricked them or wronged them as this is one of the most geniune mmo's out there at the moment from the graphics to the gameplay. Note im saying genuine, meaning you can tell they didnt just copy and paste ideas from other mmos that worked, they have developed systems of their own that havent been tested. This is game taking a risk, and whether or not you think its payed off is one thing, but dont make this into something its not.
This is only beta, and anything i do is inconsiquential, ie: it will be wiped (understandable)
Wife played it for the first time, and she has a high standard of games (low attention span for grinds), and she was actually keen to get on and play her thief all day.
I tried some WvW, and the pvp was fun, had some nice 2v2s, 1v1s, felt smooth tbh, and involved alot of coordination/ability timing.
I don't know what people are saying about low fps. I was in the city/WvW/ lions den and was it was packed, I had 0 slow down/lag. Ran amazingly well on max everything. My friend on vent who is using a piece of shit rig said he was noticing hadly any slow down.
Has anyone see how much detail they put in the city? the Mural in the commerce room is a colour gradient??
Little touches make it. The fact this game is B2P.....simply amazing.
ONLY thing...they need to make it so you can select the overflow server.
Ok, no real story, no mounts, funy looking characters, boring pvp, average graphic. Simple words -there is no soul in this mmo and i am so angry at me that i prepurchased this game. I think i will never learn, i should wait for some time before i buy
People who claim performance is bad, I have no idea what they're talking about--besides some server overload issues where I couldn't get in. Other than that it's been smooth sailing for me 40-60 FPS, 40 when there is a large crowd of folks. I'm playing with all the bells and whistles too, doing just dandy. The reason people are complaining is because they've mistaken GW2 limited beta as an open beta, went in expecting to see a fully polished game and instead got, as the mini-movies in the personal story state, "a work in progress". "But that's not what I wanted!" they will exclaim, well tough cookies kiddo is what I have to say to them. The FAQ section even states, "There will be a beta once a month", which you can almost derive from that there will be multiple months of beta testing. The game is months from release people, what did you expect? And no it is not coming out just because Gamestop said June 26th, they are not Arena Net--get out of my face with that rubbish! I am estimating a late July early August beta at best--October or November at worst. I personally have enjoyed my time in game, with only a few dull moments--and the complaints I've made on these forums about lack of chatter, well they're null and void after this evening. I was met with a surprising torrent of word exchange this evening, and I must say the community overall seemed very mature, I was satisfied. I came into the beta with realistic expectations, and all those expectations were met and then exceeded in certain regards. I will not be asking for a refund--I'm satisfied.
Some people like to complain just for the sake of complaining. They will pick the smallest thing and blow it way out of proportion.
I for one am really enjoying Guild Wars 2; it's pretty much what I was expecting and not much about it is a disappointment. At the end of the day if you like it, then I'll see you there. If not, stop complaining and just quit and move on with your life.

The reason that a lot of people are negative is because they have a sense of entitlement and a serious god complex. They think that this beta should work perfectly for them without any problems because it's THEY that are playing the game. That's just performance issues.
As for the actual gameplay. Only people who don't like the features are the ones that like "old" style MMOs(not really old but WoW and the MMOs following it). And cynical people. Though, I'm the most cynical person here(especially about life in general) so I guess they don't really have an excuse in the first place.
Overall, I personally don't care what these people say. You shouldn't care about their negativity either. They're irrelevant.
Why do people hate on the people who are complaining about the game in beta? It's kind of the whole point of a beta to see the problems and if people were not vocal about them then they'd never know and it would never get fixed. You're going to get people complaining about issues on forums, the developers need to hear the feedback, if you don't like it then don't come to forums and stay chatting about the game in game.
Personally, I love the game. I played it past the starting areas and past level 10. I tried all of the classes. I tried PvP and PvE. In my opinion, various beta related issues aside, GW2 simply is a really good game. It has lots of content and really fun classes. Fast and brutal combat that is really rewarding once you get past the "spam all the things!" phase and actually learn how to play. It is the only MMO in a long time where you actually explore and find some cool shit. There is always stuff going on and the world feels alive. And it has no monthly fee on top of all that!
The main issue I have with GW2 is that it seams I just have to AoE to win. I can AoE in the dynamic events, same go's for WvWvW. I only see ppl run in zergs spamming AoE in pve same as in pvp. Moste ppl don't even read what they supposed to but just fire away.
Maybe it just because there are too many ppl atm and thats why it feels like Zerg Wars 2. But I wonder how they going to make the WvWvW fun.
A other part about GW2 where I see a problem is, the instant max lvl in pvp. On the one hand its realy cool to be able to experience the "endcontent" at lvl 1. On the ohter hand I'm missing the progress. I like to develop/progress my char in a MMORPG, but in WvWvW I get everything from the start...Also the combat dosen't feel that responsive. Its a bit clunky. This also depends on the class you choose.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think this game is rubbish, but there are some points in it I'm not to happy about.
For those people who say this is just another theme park MMO. They should get spanked hard. There no way you can call this game a theme park. In gw2 you can do what ever you want. You go north and see what happens. Shame on the haters
Please???
GW2 is as deep in themepark territory as is humanly possible. There's not a single sandboxy feature in the game. It is a good themepark, no doubt about that, arguably it is even one of the best themeparks on the market - and for people enjoying the more actiony combat and enjoying competitive PvP the game is probably the best themepark currently available - but a themepark it is.
Have you ever played a sandbox game? Somehow I doubt it.

English term theme park". In the video game industry, the theme parks" means an interventionist style of gameplay, which leads the player from point A to point B, in a process designed by the team developing the game.
As part of a MMORPG gameplay style theme park" is found in the construction of quests, raids or dungeons for players linearly imagined."
A themepark is linear, handheld, A-to-B oriented gameplay. Like a themepark in real life. GW2 is not a themepark. That doesn't mean it's a sandbox (as for some people something not being A automatically means it being B ....), but for sure it's not a themepark, or you didn't play it for more than 2 levels.

I've been thinking the same thing, but who knows which is more reliable. I'm not really interested in the same old fanboi defenses, even if they might be more true this time, or whatever. Pretty sure I'll just have to buy it, and see for myself. Eventually.
Yeah I am thinking the same atm. I try not to brush off people as fanbois or whiners, and usually think people's opinions are geniune. Both sides seem to have good arguments so far. I ignore only the "lag" issue, because I am sure until launch ANet can solve this, or at least in due time. It's just a surprise, after the positive outlook before. You see, normally it takes a while for people realizing some not so cool things. Like in SWTOR, in the beginning you easily got people for Flashpoints and Heroics (group content) and only later it got more difficult. (A question I'd also have with GW2: when it is so difficult now already to do great events, how will they manage that later, when people in masses levelled up? SWTOR atm is mired by the problem, you just CAN'T get people for lower level group content anymore! How does GW2 solve this?)
Usually where there is smoke there is a fire. Not saying the game is all bad, but when so many are disappointed, it's not really plausible to call them all haters. It clearly seems GW2 HAS some issues.
It has always been my experience that some features sound very cool on paper but can be VERY irritating in reality over time. Two examples:
- migrating mobs in "Dark and Light": sounded cool as idea to me, in reality it was just SUPER annoying.
- having your own starship in SWTOR: I loved it at first, now I just feel it is a lame thing and a hindrance, a waste of time in travel between planets and something that is entirely and totally superfluous
I have this feeling ideas like the downer state, lack of mounts and many deaths may be similar "good ideas on paper" which can get on your nerves quite a lot, if you play a longer time. And the fact some people defend it so *vehemently* just indicates me they have their doubts as well and try to convince themselves all is well and cool in GW2-world.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert

Still not getting it. Dynamic events are quests. They have a start point, a middle and an end point then they are recycled. just like every other quest ever imagined.
You can not break this linearity for example, by creating a decoy for an imposing army to be lead away from their target. you are bound by the predisposition of the script.
Also, I would really like to see where the industry as a whole has come into agreement of what is and what is not a theme park or sandbox.

Thats a terrible definition. Theme park means everything in the world is there to be touched but not changed. You go, you ride the rides, you play the games, and buy candy... but come tomorrow when you log back in everything is the same. Sandbox implies that everything is meant to be building blocks for the player to work with. I haven't played enough to definitevly put it in either category, and honestly most games don't fit neatly in either. Without a doubt the skills/character aspect of this game are as theme park as it gets. You pick this class and get these skills- no gear or different abilities available. Boring.
This is my biggest issue with the game, lack of customization. As previous posters have mentioned there is no PVP gear or way to differentiate other than gameplay. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, I'm just saying it's not an MMORPG. This game plays alot like a action/shooter game to me. You get 4-5 abilities that you can use and dodge, and thats it. Lack of diverse skills, lack of fight altering abilities, lack of dynamic fighting.
Don't get me wrong, the game was enjoyable to pick up and play, I can just see it becoming very stale after about 1-2 weeks of pushing the same 3 buttons over and over. If I wanted to play a game like thisI would probably just get my hands on a FPS.

If I wanted to play a game like this I would probably just get my hands on a FPS.
