Yes one days data doesn't matter; you have the same issue when the servers go down for patches etc., people playing more at weekends / holidays.

The key now, I believe, is what level will the game bottom out at - if it even does. And I say that not because I believe SWTOR to be a 'bad' game just not a good, or maybe I should say, long term 'mmo'.

A game to play, play the 30 days and maybe sub for a month or two depending on your speed of play and then unsub.

As such the 'bottom' will be the number of sales in a month - and that has declined. 2M from the December launch to the start of Feb; 300k in Feb/Mar/April when the game was being advertised on television with the film tie in. That level of advertising certainly declined - and it gets harder and harder to reach out to those casuals (sorry hard core) gamers.

Yeah...I loved those ignorant folks. I remember more than a few going on about how there were no population issues and that people having grouping issues simply weren't trying or must have personality issues.

How times have changed. Guess it has finally reached a point most can't be in denial anymore.

EDIT: So I see that is actually a recent post. Amazing some are still so clueless.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Well, I just checked out the other games. The drop trend on Tuesday is unique to SWTOR in the sense that it plumetted.

But we'll have to see though.

It is 2378 today, and if it was not for the malfunction I reckon it would have been in the 2400s-2500s.

It did affect other games, as I know for a fact, because I could not increase STO or LOTRO by 1 myself that day, and that thread I linked to proves I was not the only one, but everyone was affected. Even when they do a patch it knocks people out and sometimes loses hours, this was a lot longer downtime than a regular maintenance period. Also I had to close down Xfire this time as the failed reconnections got annoying, whereas on a normal maintenance period, I just wait about 15 mins and try again, and is usually successful

Sorry, but your theory is not plausible anymore.

It was not a theory it is fact. Xfire malfunctioned and prevented people recording their stats. WIth me it affected LOTRO and STO.

What is not plausible is the 2264 figure. The true figure for the other day will never be known, but I say it would have been about 2400-2500.

The figure has increased today, so that means the number of xfire players are increasing? No, because the figure of 2264 is not accurate. The numbers are still decreasing

This is a nice argument you guys are having.  But even if ther was a blip that cost a small number of players, it's not really effecting the slope of the decline all that much.

Yep, that is what I was saying, but they seemed to think the malfunction made no impact, and would have dropped from about 2600 to 2264 regardless, and implied that it would be below 2000 or something now, but todays figure is 2310. Clearly that huge drop the other day  was due to that malfunction, and not a speedier decline.

    2310 - 2264 = 46

This is so insignificant, that it is not worth mentioning.

The dip the other day was huge, and the last two day's numbers have confirmed it, end of story.

    2320 players on 5/11.

Didn't check if something else was going on... but on the surface, that is not good.

Also... has dropped back to a solid #8 now, with WoTanks now ahead... and #9 getting closer.  Wouldn't be surprised to see it @ #15 or lower by the end of the month.

Probably like shooting fish in a barrel here, but 5/15 is D3 launch... and a Tuesday - which is typically the day of the week with the least players....  seems like a good bet for an all-time low... I'd say less than <2000 players.

I wonder when the bigger magazines/review sites will feel it is safe to talk about it?

The dip was only huge because of the malfunction. The fact that the figues have risen since confirms it.

I say the the figure the other day would have been about 2450 or maybe higher instead of 2264, if it was not for the malfunction.  2378 -2310 is 68. 2450 -2378 is only 78 or a bit more if figure was higher than 2450, but it then would not make it that huge dip.

If it was 2450, then that would be about half of the drop, and 50% is not insignificant.

I agree Metentso. The whole tenor of the earnings results presentation seemed to be downplaying SWTOR - not a top five etc.

The problem that EA have however is that having reduced their product range - drastically - the next big product for them to push is ......

well the only announced Q1 title is Secret World, to which they add the ever so tiny caveat 'co-published'. Now I am sure there will be another dozen Sim3 fluff packs (OK not quite that many) and they seem to be moving to FIFA fluff packs but ..... no real surprise that the share price had taken a hit.

Graph for the last week. Boring week with not much happening.

  • fadisfadis Member Posts: 469

^boring... but continued steady decline.  Pretty much set 'record daily lows' every single day.

  • FrodoFraginsFrodoFragins Member EpicPosts: 6,057

I'm excited to see all of these results for tomorrow when D3 hits.

  • erictlewiserictlewis Member UncommonPosts: 3,022

I does not matter we are going to have a continued decline  until the sunset the game,  I suspect that will be soon, as they have no clue what to do now.   Folks have been asking for server merges but that just a an attempt to cut off futher bleeding.  Honestly I think that biowre will sunset this by december.

The only folks left playing are the ones playing because it is star wars name just like the poor soals who were left playing swg.  I think it roughly has the same population now that swg had before it got sunsetted.

A GM said that Tera had around 715.000 subscriptions.

    in Xfire Sunday:

    SWTOR 2500

    TERA 1300

If we believe the GM figure, and consider that SWTOR and TERA have the same % of xfire players, SWTOR would have pretty much exactly 1.3M.

    Go figure.

If you believe those numbers.  I believe my eyes and I believe the empty server that I play on in tra blood prime time 50 folks last night on the fleet,  a couple of hundred if you look around.  I only see 4 or 5 servers at heavy load the rest are mainly standard and light.

It would also mean that SWTOR had 6,5m at release

Probably co-incidence but fun to consider!

The 2500 number is a today figure; the 1.3M figure is an and-April figure when the number was higher - so the 2500 would, we assume, suggest a lower number (usual caveats etc.)

When trying to compare two games, especially a game that has just launched to an older game looking at the average play time is another guide.

New games are shiny - so people play more. Av. hours Terra: c.5; SWTOR c. 4.25

This may suggest that a smaller % of SWTOR folks are playing - although 4.25 is still high and both numbers fall into the 4-5 hour 'average band' previoulsy charted for multiple games - may not bode well for Terra if it is already 'average'.

Yes i thought it was a curious thing to comment :)

I also thought about Tera players playing more, as SWTOR players did months ago but that would mean as you say that SWTOR has more subscriptions. Maybe much too stretch :) I got some upset replies already just for the 1.3M.

Either way you look at this I agree its not good numbers for either game.  I already heard xguild  members in the forum postings that they were not happy with tera.

And no Im not upset, 1.3 I laugh at it just does not equate to what I see on live.  I think it is numbers of wha they have with active accounts, but active does not mean playing.

It's almost spooky how closely the graph correlates to EA's stock price performance over the same time period.

On Xfire this morning SWTOR is now ranked #10 with 7217 hours played behind Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas at #9 with 7893 hours played.  GTA:SA came out in 2005!!!!

SWTOR is going down like the Titanic, no wait, atleast the people on the Titanic had a chance.   I have completely lost all hope for the devs to make this a viable mmo.

As previously stated, it will be a long time (and probably a cold day in hell) before we see another Star Wars MMO, LucasArts is probably very frustrated that no dev company can do the license justice.

    So sad...

Logged in yesterday late evening on Red Eclipse EU Empire side (second largest EU populated server).

Less than 100 people on fleet. It was 150-200 two weeks ago. The declining trend is certainly not slowing down.

Well some EA idiot saying that SW:TOR is no longer a developer priority isn't exactly helping either.

If this is not a sign enough to quit this sinking ship... I don't know what else can.

I read that article then went straight to SWTOR and cancelled my and my GF's accounts.

    Screw 'em.

Also, distance between SWTOR and Aion has gone from 2000 to 500 players in a few weeks.
