Low production costs?
The combat is arguably of comparably bad quality to SWToRs, the focus of the game is story i.e. SWToRs focus, there seems to be little group content i.e. it's mostly solo like SWToR.
Is this game just trying to fill the story-driven horror niche, or how does anybody expect this game to survive?
The only thing holding SWToR afloat is the Starwars IP. Nothing else.
WIll Lovecraft fans be the only ones keeping this game alive? Compared to Starwars fans they are few and far between.
I don't know. It just seems like with all of the great alternatives that it's going to make it very hard for people to justify paying a subscription fee.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

People who like this kind of game will buy it, others with bitch and moan about it. Crazy world huh!
unfortunatly I have to agree i still may play for a couple months but unless they have some amazing endgame planned I don't see this one lasting very long.
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
It will follow a similar path I believe.

Several ways this is not SWTOR
1 Hype, they didnt spend 3 years hyping this as a wow killer
2 World, the world feels like a world and not a lifeless zone
3 Wont have large numbers of asshats who want to be part of a "popular" mmo
lol good points actually...

The combat is much better than your wow/rift/war/eq2/aion/swtor type combat - you have to think in pve, you have to prepare, you have to approach mob fights like a pvp fight. also 0.5 gcd , so refreshing to PVE where im watching the mob, rather than watiching a gcd indicator and a mana bar.
It only sucks if you try and play it like one of those games. Its not as good as gw2 combat though.
Unlike SWTOR its not just story, theres an actual MMO there.
What are you basing your prediction on? The stress test this past weekend?

Still over a million players after six months? People around here were predicting F2P after six months for tor.
Frankly, TSW would be lucky to hold that many subscribers.

probably mostly that its a story based game for the most part and story based isn't the best for longevity... just a guess

IT WILL NOT!!
[Mod Edit]
Hard to say with seeing so little. Potential is there for it to be short term. but without seeing how grouping is handled, content updates, other zones, end game, and PvP it is hard to say if it will suffer short timer syndrome with the majority of players or if they will have the tools in place to keep people around.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
TSW is for adults
ToR is for kids, (sorry to offend)
Logicly since people grow up/older a game for kids will fail while a game for adults will last longer.
I do have much fear when I see an EA logo on TSW, and if there is 1 reason it will fail that is it.
Are ther raids?
Is the PvP any good?
Is there a gear grind?
Are there any systems in place to keep people playing their main once they finish all of the story and are max level?
How are they handling these things in this game?
Has nothing to do with the comparison....seriously
This has to do with what you want...maybe? Not whether TWS ends up TOR
The only things holding me back atm from pre-ordering is people keep comparing it to SWTOR with the boring npcs/mobs that just stand around and do nothing and the place holder stuff. This late in, with release looming upon us, I don't see them doing much to fix these things until months and months down the road. I'm just not willing to pay to beta another game when it goes live. Will give it a look see where its at in about 6 months. Really hope it shapes up to be good.

Ok once more for the mouth breathers. EA DID NOT PRODUCE/DEVELOP TSW. THEY DISTRIBUTE IT IN NA ONLY.
Even though I think TSW need some more work, and has some flaws, it's still way better then SWTOR.
My first hour of the beta was almost a pain and I was about to just throw it away, but then I forced myself to play some more and it actually grew on me.
I'll keep an eye on this game.
He's talking about whether or not this game will "stay alive." He's wondering if the game will, at some point, have an incredible drop of subscribers because there is nothing to keep them playing at endgame after they are done with their story.
So are there systems to help keep people playing and paying? Once they are done with the story, will it feel like they have finished the game?
I dont' see TSW being nearly as over-hyped as SWTOR was. Less over-hyped means fewer people that drop subscriptions when their expectations are not met.
While the idea of a niche quester is a bit hard for me to grasp, that seems to be the design. I'm curious to see how the PVP works out.
All MMORPG's are story based.
Whats boring about the npcs? They act move and converse with the world unlike TOR
you know what I mean.. only SWTOR and now TSW has made their center focus the story.. most MMOs its not the main "feature" if you will or selling point of the game

I don't know what people are talking about there, London (the only hub in the test) had lots of NPCs walking around. In kingsmouth there were waves of zombies, etc...
