Well, at least there is still no hype :)

Maybe its because i have a really good computer, but im actually not so thrilled about GW2 graphics. For a 2012 game i expected it to be better, or maybe im just really focusing on the character/race such as movement/details.

However, as a wise Arenanet dev from GW2 told me, Gameplay > Graphics.

Well, I am not going to judge GW2 against any MMO that is released, I will do that once the game comes out August 25th (28th). What I do know is that the graphics I have seen are atmospherically excellent. They help the experience, just like how WoW's graphics, although terrible in present standards, help along its atmosphere.

Anyone looking for Crysis 3 grade graphics in an MMO is being absurd. Any smart dev would not handcuff themselves by making an MMO specifically for the highest 10% of gamers, when their key reason for their graphics is atmosphere.

And, just to be honest. Compare the most recent MMO to come out with GW2. TSW graphics are HORRID compared to GW2...blocky textures, finding yourself halfway inside objects constantly, etc (i say this, because in GW2 you actually stand on objects in poses that one would, not standing straight up the same way no matter what type of terrain you are standing on) and I could go on with the lower level graphics that TSW has. But, all that said, TSW's atmosphere outweighs the lower grade graphics, so much so that you dont notice them all to often in gameplay.

I can't believe people think tera's and AoC's graphics are better than GW2s.  It just amazes me.  AoC was good a few months after it launched and has looked dated and tired since.

Tera doesn't have better graphics, it just have more realistic aesthetics and asian art style which I don't like btw.

    Example of GW2 graphics

Too bad for Tera that graphics does not make the game.

    I played Tera and GW2 BWE's.

    GW2 > Tera   1 million percent better.

PS. See you in GW2. :)

I'll be happy when these Guild Wars 2 graphics support Eyefinity without being -Vert.

This 1 minute video I made was a quick look at the beauty and detail of Guild Wars 2 graphics.  I don't even understand how the graphics can be so good in GW2 when it is not yet set for multi-threading or multi-core natively, and is not optimized for GPUs.  GW2 is running on one core of my quad-core AMD CPU.  I am blown away thinking about how much room for improvement the game has given how stunning it looks already.  I talk over the vid, and you can hear my excitement for the graphics of GW2, and my boredom with WoW graphics.  As a years long Warhammer player I am proud to see the genre incorporating all the important aspects (PvE, PvP, imagery) into one big title game.  We are closer to perfection now.

have you played ffxiv on max settings?  makes you wonder what 2.0 is going to look like.

    i def gonna try FFXIVver2

heard it was a real crap broken mmo before that but from what i read they fired the old team and hire new team and completely remade the game from the ground....not many do that lol...and also from pics it looks promising...gonna try it as a huge ff fan

gw2 gas great artstyle and aesthetics but great graphics?...not so much!

wouldnt even call it good graphics anymore.

  • QuenchsterQuenchster Member Posts: 450

GW2 doesn't have the best graphics, but I think the graphics are very well suited for what the developers are doing with their art and with their gameplay. The loading screens are small. The WvW combat and larger scale PvE combat doesn't get too choppy when spell effects go flying everywhere. I'm sure a lot of different computers can play it. It may not be the graphics everybody dreams about, but it works for an MMO such as GW2.

goofy or not that your opinions

east games and even animes have always been the best in art-graphics

the game is really good..fresh air for the mmo genre

this and gw2 are what im gonna play

these are the only 2 mmo's that try something different and breaks free from the wow copy paste

wow is overated compare it with a 2004 game if u want but today its just a 1 pixel game

they have improved the graphics over the years and it look better than back in 2004, is no longer comparable to 2004 games. It doesn't have good graphics compared to today's games either but still look fine

The "manga/asiatic" style of Tera makes me sick. Some mobs are just plain silly/ugly too.

I take GW2's graphics anytime over that.

Remember... beauty is a matter of opinion, including for game graphics. So NO, Tera does NOT have better graphics than GW2. Actually, I'd even take WoW's aged and cartoon style graphics over the asian ugly Tera style.

Oh, and as always... this site also has Tera forums.

i hate west art, their worlds  feel empty and characters without expressions BUT when there is a game that LOOKS and PLAY good i will admit it even if i hate it.

you say gw2 graphics r better cause u hate asians games thats not a fact thats just an opinion, just for  the "wow over tera" makes u look ridiculous and  nobody should  take u seriously .

and no beauty is not a matter of opinions its a matter of FACTS

if i should think like you do then lol ok half life 1 looks better than ff13

or nonononono even better minecraft looks WAY better than final fantasy versus

or super mario looks better than resident evil 6...

or a fat chick looking way better than a top model....plz just stop

Took all of these shots in game yesterday.

    imageimageimageimageimageimage

Those are quite nice indeed, however I don't see them as being better or worse than GW2, just a different flavor. I much prefer the underwater of GW2 over Tera... the bay at Lion's Arch reminds me of Scuba diving irl. It was almost like swimming in a fish tank, gorgeous. Now, that's only one water shot of Tera, maybe they also have a more reef-like environment to compare with, I don't know. Tera, based on those shots, does do some very interesting things with purple. image

    and to finish this already--->

and btw everything moves there its not static...find me one pic graphic wise from gw2 that look at least near this..there is none

and to those who say aoc looks better...here i proved u r wrong

  • megera23megera23 Member UncommonPosts: 239

When people use the word static they speak more about ambience and atmosphere, rather than the movement of objects. It may include a lot of things, like having critters running around, grass moving when you pass through it, NPCs walking around and talking, day/night cycles, moving clouds, interaction with the world itself, the way the content is provided/presented to you and many other factors, which help you immerse yourself in a particular virtual world.

Btw, as someone who likes anime (I've been watching it since 2005) I personally don't like Tera's or Aion's style. While some of the screenshots you provided are rather beautiful, I personally feel disconnected from the game (played K-Tera when it came out and Aion a while back) due to the unnatural bright colors and oversaturation used in those 2 particular games. I have no problems with games like Lineage 2(darker/blander colors, similar artstyle), Archeage(more photorealistic style as far as environments are concerned and more natural colors), Skyrim (another example of darker and more realistic environments) or GW2 (which strikes a nice middleground when it comes to colors, with a more painterly style). As I'm sure you know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • ZezdaZezda Member UncommonPosts: 686

I totally forgot to take screenshots on BWE 1 and I missed the second weekend as I had managed to break 2 ribs and fracture 4 vertebrae in my lower back the day it started so sitting at a PC was not an option when I got out of hospital the day after. :(

I did take these though while messing with the settings. I play at 5280x1050, the high quality screenshot option in game is either doing some sort of interpolation or it is creating the screenshot off-screen at a higher resolution then saving it rather than the actual rendering you see on your screen. Either way, some of the screenshots I took where as large as 25MB and that's them already in jpg format. Actual size is 21056x4200 per screenshot, yes.. that's over 21 thousand pixels horizontal. I couldn't actually find any websites that would host them in their original size until I seen the others posted here by Fiontar which showed which site he/she used so thanks for that!

Keep in mind the edges of these screenshots may be slightly distorted due to the 3 monitor setup. Next BWE I'm hoping I can play with the settings a bit and provide feedback for ArenaNet should anything be needing changed with regards to UI support or options to change FoV settings etc. There is a command line arguement for the game (-bmp) to force the game to save the images as BMP files as oppose to JPG so next event expect me to be uploading some truely humongous screenshots!

(Wait for these to load fully for best quality!)
