Oh look we have this thread again. Look the MMORPG guys put up a poll a long time ago on if we wanted them to cover Diablo 3. Diablo 3 won the vote so now they cover it. Get over it.

I disagree but I don't see how our opinions about the words being split or not matters as both our points still stand.
Again, remember I'm pretty much playing devil's advocate here...
When you say 'interact with thousands of people at a time', very few MMOs actually pull that off. Furthermore you can't actually and literally interact with 100 at once, let alone 1000. At best, the 'mass interaction' is limited to a loose translation of AoE.
In all my years of playing MMOs, GW1 halloween event is right up for the most mass interaction I've seen. The caveat to this is that the multitudes are interacting with 1 (mad king) and not with each other.
I'd love to be corrected on this and shown MMO examples of one player interacting with 100 players in a very short amount of time.
As for the other titles being "MMO", I'm not fully familiar with most of them but yes, compared to the days of yesteryear, if they include multplayer on a large scan and not just some form of direct connect/lan then I suppose it'd be reasonable for someone (not me) to call them MMO... which would be down right WEIRD.
We really need separate forums for every newly launched game. There can be the anti-<MMO> one and there can be the 'what general discussion should be' one. All the lamenting can happen together where each can find solace in like minded can't-move-on-ers leaving the rest of us to actually move forward and discuss meaningful and relevant topics.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

because despite what people claim, other games do affect other games, it's all one big gaming market. Thus when Skyrim came out it affected the logins of all MMO's respectively because people weren't logging into the games and that's the reports I've seen on this website and others like it. That D3 affected the logins, not the accounts of the mmo's currently out.
Weird how people get all bent out of shape over nothing.
First off it is Massive...well somewhat, the lore world is big, the playable area is a bit smaller, but this is just like all other MMO
Second, it is Multiplayer
Third, it is Online
There is a lot of solo play in all "pure" MMO, with the occasional grouping if there is a forced group quest, or a dungeon run.
So I am quite sure that Diablo 3 is played by many many many the same way all other MMO are played....so why not have it here?
Obviously this means MMORPGs are doomed.

You didn't even try to read what the thread is about did you?
It's not about it being covered. It's about how MMORPG.com staff is treating it AS an MMO. It is NOT an MMO, and shouldn't be compared to MMOs, or even hinted at that it might affect games like woW etc.

Gamers either play the game or come here and complain. either or. My opinion. They don't really need a logical reason, just a target.

It is not Massive, so I removed it from your list. I'm sorry, but it is absolutely impossible to consider Diablo 3 to be "massive". You don't understand the context when used for MMO's.
Sorry if this comes off as arrogant, but quite simply calling Diablo 3 an MMO is not something debatable. It isn't, be done with it please.

I REPEAT, is NOT that Diablo 3 is being covered on MMORPG.com. The poll was clear that the majority didn't mind the news being covered.
THE PROBLEM: Is that MMORPG.com are treating Diablo 3 as if it were an MMORPG, and as if it could have an effect on MMORPG's such as WoW's subscriber base.
The staff need to stop abusing their power to post articles on the site. That's the only point of this thread. PLEASE stop derailing it.

While I agree with you, you may want to reconsider throwing your opinion around as fact.
Ever hear the joke about how by some random year far into the future everyone will be grey from crossbreeding and there will be no more races.... that's kind of what's happening to games.
You have your leveling up in FPS, you have yoru twitch/skill in RPGs, you have your strategy everywhere, point and click commands etc etc. Hey, I want to hold onto my old ways too but fact of the matter is the mindset from 20 years ago isn't completely valid anymore today.

Feels like an MMO to me honestly... Many of the MMO's on the market today suck. D3 is easily comparable because it has just as many if not more features than main stream mmos today.
Um... it's impossible for non MMOs to impact MMOs? That's news to me. I didn't know people were loyal and dedicated to 'genres' more than they were to playing games that they enjoyed.

So you're saying that someone can come up to your 4-door sedan and call it a truck, and if you tell them they're wrong...point out the reasons...and then call it FACT that your 4-door sedan is actually a "Sedan" or "Car" that you should be worried about your "opinion" being used as fact?
There are certain things in this world that are known facts. It is known that lobby based games such as Diablo 3, Age of Empires, any FPS title such as Call of Duty etc, are NOT MMORPG...or MMO's to begin with. Trying to split hairs for an argumentative discussion is simply ignorant.
When did clarifying a FACT become something you shouldn't do? There is no room for opinion here, and i'm sorry if that comes off as rude. However, you belittle yourself and anyone around you if you think you can magically change the meaning of a specific classification.
You cannot change the meaning of Dog to Cat, and similarly you cannot change Action RPG (or simply RPG) to Massive Multiplayer Online. It simply is NOT possible.

You're mixing apples with oranges. A 4 door sedan is predefined by it's title. Furthermore, seating capacity a car or truck it does not make.
There is not a hard definition on massive for MMO. There is also not a hard application of how the term massive is to be applied.
Of course those games are not MMORPGs, they lack the RPG component. However excluding them from being labeled MMO is very much a debatable issue. I'm inclined to agree with you're stance about them 'not being' one, however just because I see it one way doesn't mean that's the only possible way it can be seen.
Yes, you are being rude and arrogant, you said it yourself and you don't seem to care because apparently the only thing 'truer' than your opinion is the 'fact' that you're correct. Of course you don't think there's room for opinion so of course you feel you're clarifying a fact. Stomp your feet as much as you want and believe as hard as you like, it can't change reality.
There's something to be said when a person, who agrees with your end opinion, is telling you that your wrong about your assertion.

I agree that it's not an MMO and doesn't exactly belong on a site that's deticated to MMO's. Maybe blizzard paid someone to add it here lol.

Nah, there was a poll from the staff that asked if we wanted it reported on. Which was fine, but the moment they started treating it like an MMO is where they crossed the line for the purposes of the site pretty much.

Do you also complain to men's health magazine when they have an article about cars or motorcycles?
