It is a Funcom game, both their previous titles have had pretty terrible launches but later matured into fairly good games. I'd give this one 6 months before trying it out I think.
You buy the game, you Get first month free, you decide if you want to continue subbing. Why would you feel it was a waste??
Or... as with AoC you wait until it goes f2p and save the purchase price at the very least.
3 years after launch, yeah...
Anyway, the purchase price of TSW is pretty low for an AAA game, so I really don't see the issue.
Nothing indicates TSW has an AAA budget, I could only find $40 million spent and now they have a $20 million marketing loan. For an MMO today AAA is at least 100 million. For a multiplatform game development is at least 60 million. I do know the Age of Conan box was going for $10 a few months after launch so $10 to blast through TSW in a few weekends isn't bad at all. The thing that really detered waiting in AoC is ther servers didn't get merged, just like SWTOR so if you come late you may be alone.

Money spent doesn't mean a thing when talking about a AAA title. If we went by your logic, there is only one AAA mmo and that game is not doing as well as predicted.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
No, I'm afraid to buy TSW because it's made by Funcom.
Definintely holding off until post-launch to see what sort of quality they manage to deliver.
Seriously?!?!?
Are you just one of those Funcom haters then? Because they have one of the best track records for MMOs unless you are a hater.
What world do you live in? Here on this planet AO was reputed to be terrible at launch, (I wasn't there) and AOC was definitely terrible at launch ( I was there).
Both games might have improved as time passed, but I was long gone (as was most of the rest of gaming world)
I'm not a hater, past performance frequently is a good predictor of the future.
I'll wait and see how it goes first, then make my decision.
Edit: and if you think AOC is "best" then you and I have very different ideas about what makes an enjoyable MMORPG, in my case think more along the lines of DAOC, EVE, and you'll understand more of what I'm looking for.
People that play Eve are to nerds what nerds are to the rest of the world. Just saying. Anyway, AoC had a bumpy start, but it has made great progress. AO, no idea, never played, but I would challenge you to list a few games that have nailed a launch. I can think of one off the top of my head and that was Rift (Trion)...unfortnately they had no end game to keep people around. However I digress, most games start rough (recent games anyway) no matter who is producing them. Where you there for the early days of DAoC? If you were then you know even that game ( a great game if I am being honest) had some rough spots.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
Yeah, I played the beta weekend. Mostly liked it, but it is, without a doubt, story oriented and not as social as some might like it to be.
The content, being so solo-oriented and story driven seems like a recipe for disaster just like SWToR. Sure, it might be fun the first time you play it through, but.. when you can basically get all of the skills and see all of the content, where is the replay value?
At least SWToR had rolling alts to see alternate stories going for it and the class stories were unique. This game has 3 mini starter areas until you get to the meat of the game, which is uniform for everybody, at least from what I've played.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there is a lot to do in the game with people and groups you can form to conquer challenging foes, but none of that was present in the beta in Kingsmouth, at least not to any appreciable degree.
The whole story trend is starting to become disturbing. I like this games atmosphere and point and click elements, but ... does it really have any longevity, or will it just be a flash in the pan?
It's a game to play for a month or so and nothing more, games wityhout any longevity and not real open world should not be allowed to use the MMO tag...

Nonsense. Known development budgets for AAA MMO's have been between the 40-60 million dollars, besides SWTOR none of them more. WoW had something like 50-60 million dollar, Rift 50 and less million dollar etc etc.
Look, all your posts about TSW are negative yet you only post on TSW threads which is why I'll give this advice: if you don't like TSW (which seems obvious) and it isn't the MMO for you, then simply move on to an MMO you're interested in. Unless you have no MMO's and are simply bored, which would explain a lot. But if you do, it usually doesn't take that much willpower to focus on things and MMO's you actually like, instead of on things you dislike.

You sir win best troll post of the year! I literally LOL'd.
Now that I think about it who has a better one besides Blizzard?
Ncsoft, Arenanet, CCP, Ymir entertainment, Turbine, Wizet, Ndoors, Nexon, Trion, ESTsoft, Jomax, Perfect world, jagex, square enix, nival interactive, cip soft, then it gets sketchy. Sony online has games with many more players than Funcom and better integration of cash shops if over look star wars entirely. Otherwise Funcom and Sony online are equal.
Oh I forgot EA games as they made ultima online.
There are plenty of others with little or no reputation, remember Funcom's track reckord is negative.
Seriously folks , Funcom would have to release a flawless 4 million user mmorpg to make up for AO launch to ever be judged postively when it comes to launches.
AO's launch is regarded as one of , if not the worst , launch of a mmorpg.
They actually ruined the chance of having aassive mmorpg for years because their horrific launch overshadowed a truly great game.

Wonder why people keep calling TLJ and Dreamfall some of the best games ever?

After what Funcom did to us with Age of Conan there is no way i'm buying Secret World...
