LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity. I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already
Just what the title says. GW2 fanboys do nothing but troll everything around here and/or derail topics constantly.
Looking forward to when GW2 actually launches and its not the holy grail of MMOness they dreamed it would be. Until that time I bid thee adieu MMORPG.com
Im super excited for 2 months after GW2 releases. Or 1 month who knows. But yea its pretty rough going here at mmorpg.com untill then. Although the bigger they are...
Oh I will be excited when it releases also so the rest of us can laugh and point at them and watch the initial hyped up teenagers begin to bash on the game and tell the truth about what a pos it is really going to be.And if I am wrong they will stay out of the mmog's I play and stay in GW2 so really it is win win.
i havent noticed a difference .. actually seems calm by comparison to 6 months ago.
Yeah, it started to calm down a few weeks after TORs release, 2 AAA MMOs pre-release like that were almost exactly the same as before AoC and WARs release.
Tera never had that huge crowd of fans even though there were more than a few and neither have TSW. ESO and WoDO are still too far away so therefor have things calmed down a bit.
Truly calm wont it be until a month after GW2s release, then most of the trolls will have quitted and spread to waiting for different games while the real fans will spend most of their time playing. Exactly the same thing happened after WAR and AoC was out and it will happen again (but I am not saying that TOR and GW2 will follow WAR and AoCs footsteps, just that the forum PvP will calm down).
It's when the developers say "We're going to be bigger than WoW! We're going to be the biggest MMO ever!" That's what gets the fanboys to go to war lol. Tera and TSW never made those claims, so people are like "meh".
Yeah, FunCom learned that the hard way. But no one ever will beat Motormouth Barnetts boast of how WAR will take Wow down...
But I think both TOR and Wow would get about as much fans no matter, both companies are very popular, a lot more popular than Mythic or Funcom ever been and both tried to redefinethe genre in their own way.
Just what the title says. GW2 fanboys do nothing but troll everything around here and/or derail topics constantly.
Its true, MMORPG was a lovely group of flower children on xtc before those...GW2 people showed up and ruined it all!
Your sarcasm made me consider something that I hadn't really thought of before. Maybe someone else has, but I haven't read it yet. I'm wondering if all the GW2 fans who are commenting on other games and trashing them, weren't always there trashing other games, only now they are interested in GW2 and so throw that game out there during their trashing of other games. So the same amount of game trashing (I really hate the word trolling) is going on but it looks as though it is GW2 fans because those who were trashing games before are still trashing them, but now have a new game of their own to look forward to.
Whut? Is there a MMORPG launching soon that has open world PVP? Must have missed it. Speaking of PVP, not everyone enjoys it here on the forums and seem unable to use their block button effectively.
Exactly alot of these newbs have no idea what open world pvp really is.They think stuff like WoW's battlegrounds is open world pvp.If 90% of them had actually ever played a true open world pvp game they would want nothing to do with it.
I don't really see what the OP has been seeing. All I notice on these boards as of late are TSW fans talking about how awesome their new game is. I see the GW2 fans talking about how awesome their new game is. I see a lot of back and forth between SW:TOR fans and the ex-SW:TOR fans. I have not seen much from the TERA fans lately (I hope it's because they are having a great time in game). I see a lot of D3 bashing threads. Last I see trolls in all the forums but try not to pay them much attention.
While I agree that there was a lot of trash talk between WAR and AoC, they generally aimed it at each other. I've been on these forums for going on 6 years and in that time (can't speak for before that) I haven't seen anything like what has gone on with some of the GW2 fans going to other games forums. I've not seen anything like the extent it goes on before. The only other comparison I can make are the Darkfall fans before that game came out, but there were never as many because it was such a nich game.
What do you mean? It was actually a lot worse then, smaller games like darkfall and STO got ganked by fans of both games.
Nah, that thing was worse, about half of the posts were trolling a little while and mods were constantly banning people.
It would actually be fun to see some statistic on how many people gets banned every month now and back then, it would show us a lot.

Obviously you never read my post responding to his post.
Also, GW2 fans prove the power of the zerg in open world pvp.
i havent noticed a difference .. actually seems calm by comparison to 6 months ago.
Loudest 'volume' ran between Christmas and the end of Jan.
But the fanboy wars (for/against) are always most intense for games that are actually released.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
I agree with the op. it show a lot of community issues on the forum. I am ready for gw2 to finally come so this stuff on the forum can finally end once and for all.

It will just change to another game. This stuff has been present for awhile now. It and forum pvp are what this site is known for amongst other communities. Ignoring/blocking is easy.
Cheers!
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
The same thing has happened for nearly every major release in the last 4 years.
I honestly wonder sometimes if it's the same people, just moving from game to game.
Ken Fisher - Semi retired old fart Network Administrator, now working in Network Security. I don't Forum PVP. If you feel I've attacked you, it was probably by accident. When I don't understand, I ask. Such is not intended as criticism.
EVE players are worse, but they only go looking for fights within their own forums.
No MO fans are worst, but stick to their own forum. Remember the GM attack?
Not true.
MO fans and DF fans trade spats occasionally, jsut not so much anymore since both games are dropping off the radar.
Also, MO haters are 100x worse than the fanbois. I've never seen someone put a 40-hour workweek into doing research just to slam a game before.
Yeah, the MO forums are great to go to if you want to spend a few hours reading several thesis on why Starvalt is the most unethical company ever. I've not seen anything quite like it as far as hatred for a company/game go. Maybe Dark and Light, but that was so long ago that I've forgotten what it was like.

Oh man you made me laugh so hard Lol.
In contrast to what you say here, some people in "the real world" still hold stature to old values and beliefs, and shun "new age ideas"
Why do you think the virtual world would be any different?

Every year there's a new video game that is called an mmorpg. These titles tend to have 5 races and 5 classes. Races, classes, and pvp tend to mean nothing. It's all cosmetic because they can't just say race a, b, and c ,for example.
If there's more than 1 faction they just copy paste what they have to the second faction, mess around with the lore just so someone says there is lore, and they toss in instanced pvp and call it a day.
It hits websites hard, and a legion of fans go crazy about it. Two to three months after release it nose dives in population. Then we wait for the following year to see it all happen again.
This year's examples are SW:ToR and Tera, TSW to be added soon. These were never mmorpgs to begin with, but folks like to think it is, until they see 50% of the players quit.
It's the cycle of this genre thanks to the population that came into gaming since 2004 and nothing to do with this website.
Welcome to MMORPG.com forums, sir. Today it's Guild Wars 2, the moment its released it'll be something else. Pretty much whatever has the biggest hype rating is what is being fanboy'd or trolled on, on a consistent and minute by minute basis here.
Tis what we're all known for here...Forum PVP. FIGHT!

How dare they get excited about an upcoming game? Don't they know that on mmorpg.com you're only allowed to praise games that have been dead for a decade or more?

I hope you said this during Warhammer and AOC so I can use this for my studies.

I just put the ones who can't make a post without mentioning the game on ignore, they must be paid to do it, or they're a little sick in the head.
Shouldn't let a few bad apples ruin the site for you though.

I wonder why console/SP games don't have such a fervent love/hate cycle.
Might just be that console/SP players don't use forums, though.
