I tried to play TSW, the graphics were simply too... I dunno plastic?
I actually enjoyed a lot of the combat, however, every single friend I got to play who is playing TERA with me could not STAND TSW, every last one loathes it :-(
One of my friends couldn't even get past the character creator, the models in their opinion looked like a "PS2" game.
If they are ugly, be aware that a cash shop is there for a reason. Funcom learn abit from CO. About overall graphic, you did max everything out right? CAn your card handle it well?
was on ultra with full settings 1900x1280 60 FPS. Looked terrible.
Edit: The HAIR doesn't even move in this game... its sooo plastic and static (the world)
The Story feels like its more on rails than any game I've played in the past 5 years.
don't see how you figured this since the zones are setup where you don't have to follow any set path.. yes if you ONLY follow the story I suppose but then you wouldn't really progress enough to be strong enough for the later zones. SWTOR was WAY more on rails than TSW.. hell TERA questing is more on rails than TSW. TSW has the most open zone design of any recent themepark MMO I can think of thats already released that is.
You can skip entire zones in TERA, you can not quest at all and just grind, you can do repeatables, TERA is less on rails than WoW or SWTOR, and way less on rails than TSW.
TSW the instant you start the game you are led from place to place to place with no real options on where to go just which quests to do first.

Let's not forget the one major advantage TSW has over Tera, not sitting around waiting for the only tank class to show up to do dungeons.
I kinda got passed the whole graphic thing with games already these days. I learn big time about games that sell on graphics and learn it the hard way i did. TERA had great graphics, but it was shallow. Even with normal single player games, graphics just doesnt sell it for me anymore. Eye candy is great and all, but when the game treats the player like a 4 year old child that has no common sense, its very insulting.
TSW might not look as good as TERA, but it sure doesnt hold my hand and force feed me like a child.

Well then it sounds like TSW is about the same as every other RPG, which would make it very similar to TERA's leveling as well then. I dunno in my opinion if TSW had started you out as a neutral random person, who experienced the end of the world, and then had to pick which faction to be, it would have been far more epic and immersive.

if you look at it from a questing perspective TSW does this better than any other MMO out right now. You have the same options of "skipping" content as any other MMO but you need ot follow a path for the main story. This is a themepark and setup in a similar fashion but the zones themselves is what makes the game great. No set quest hubs a very decent variety in quest so you are not stuck doing the same kill x crap all the time. Of course it could be better and many things I wish were different but this game is lot of fun and from a RPG standpoint is leaps better than games such as TERA or SWTOR. IMHO of course

The game is mostly on rails at the begining. After that, have fun running around if you survive long enough to run. On rails are needed for a reason, at least in the begining, its the intro to the game itself, otherwise your gona be massively confused to where to go, try DARKFALL and you will know why on rails are needed for awhile.
I will be cancelling my TERA and wil move to TSW. GW2 is is probably November/Dec so no point talking about it.
Reason for swtich
1) I like the ART work of TSW over TERA.
2) PvP / Battle ground
3) The immersion factor is TSW
4) Quest / Lore is stronger
5) Might be due to graphics but I like the gameplay of TSW. TERA clams it requires skills and targetting. In realty TERA targets system is so large, it is no different then auto attack. I will miss the dodge system in TERA
6) I can't stand the music in TERA
7) The instances in TSW are 10x harder then TERA.
I actually chuckled at #4. TERA has terrible questing and lore. In regard to questing, the two games are at the opposite end of the spectrum.
TERA brought something I honestly hope to see in many more MMOs. Reward for rewsponsible play. No longer was skill just about standing in one place, spamming a rotation while healers kept you alive. In TERA, if you can't get out of the fire, you die.
I also don't think you can compare the instances, but you did, and you have your opinion.
Spec'ing properly is a gateway drug. 12 Million People have been meter spammed in heroics.

Let's not forget the one major advantage TSW has over Tera, not sitting around waiting for the only tank class to show up to do dungeons. Warriors can queue as tanks at the end of this week. Just FYI. So there will be 2 tank classes that can queue for dungeons now. :-D

Helping Freya try to find her lost love, only to find out hes been turned into some sort of undead monstrosity, that was rather moving.
You literally single handedly save the Federation time and time again, with an ever growing cast of friends who they continually use throughout the game, only adding in more and more, like any good story would, reminds me of Lord of the Rings.
There are bad guys that are memorable, and there is mystery, and passion.

why don't you give TSW atry to see yourself? TERA has almost no variety in quests(upt the point I played which was about 36) you have a couple escort but basically everything is kill quests.. just youtube some videos of TSW quests and you will see a difference. You have many differn't types which really break up the monotony you run into in TERA. But if enjoy nothing but the same quest over and over and over then more power to ya

Did, went through the first two towns, over the last few BETAs, was rather let down as I've been a long time follower of the game, tried to convince friends to try the game, most of them couldn't get past the beginning area as they hated the animations, graphics, look and feel of the game, the tab targeting, really long delay on dodge, only 2 healing classes, the ZERGY looking PVP...

Which TERA are you playing? The story was really bland.
Not to point things out, but as much as people like TERA, its already going under at KOREA, the US version was a last ditch effort to save the game. But now they have only 120k plus subs left so they are planning to put out a F2P server soon to test the market in JULY. FOund this little interesting fact in the TERA forum.

can't argue game isn't for everyone and the aesthetics won't appeal to everyone either.. I just don't see if you played through savage coast can honestly say you don't see a big difference on how the zones and questing are presented and how the story is delivered compared to a game liek TERA

you cant port to other zones until you unlock them by walking there but doesn't stop you from just walking from zone to zone.. but if you walk straight to blue mountain you will die as you will not be well enough geared to fight there. But as long as you are strong enough you don't have ot follow any set path unless you are following the main story

Bland how? You don't ever describe what you don't like about the story, you merely throw negative adjectives at it and hope they stick.
I can list off memorable characters until the sun sets and you'd still say "nope bland!"
There is an epic struggle between the forces of good and evil, culminating in the death of gods at your own hands, you become a hero through your actions and its all laid out right in front of you.
I like how you don't explain your view point at all and then go off topic talking about Korean TERA's money woe's, when its a well known fact En Masse is a separate entity with the ability to generate its own content WITHOUT the Korean developer.

What advantage? General / LFG is still full of LF1M Tank.
We are mentally handicapped/condtioned into thinking "We need that special guy to tank" So the issue presists...
Now Playing: DARKFALL Unholy Wars "Return to Open World, Full Loot PvP, Conquest in a Sandbox MMO with player driven economy! Just like classic MMOs!"
if you look at it from a questing perspective TSW does this better than any other MMO out right now.
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
Nah you can skip entire zones in TSW too. The story portion (1/4) of the quest is on rails... Shouldn't it be?
Which part Nitth?
Can you skip a lot of quests in TSW? Is it not very linear feeling? What ARE the differences in the quests? Please use more details
Because I know you can skip entire zones in TERA... As I have skipped 3 in leveling to 60.
not sure which version of TERA you played but I found nothing well done or meaningful quest wise in my time in TERA.. and yes I read all the dialogue

Not sure what TERA you played either....
why don't you give TSW atry to see yourself? TERA has almost no variety in quests(upt the point I played which was about 36) you have a couple escort but basically everything is kill quests.. just youtube some videos of TSW quests and you will see a difference. You have many differn't types which really break up the monotony you run into in TERA. But if enjoy nothing but the same quest over and over and over then more power to ya

False. I can go anywhere i choose right out of the gate, Me and a friend have travelled to Egypt and trans right out of the gate.
I don't have to do any of the kingsmouth quests either, I could completely skip that zone if i so choosed.

I mean the whole thing looks awful I'm sorry...
I'll quote you and answer again. You can skip entire zones in TSW.
Ah, it sure didn't seem that way when I went through the game the last beta weekend everything seemed to tell me exactly where to go and what to do, the gate keeper said head through the portal to kingsmouth and I did...
It would feel like I had a whole lot more options if I had known that detail. Interesting...

Tell him to go fuck himself and walk into the scorched desert.
Or hang a right when you enter kingsmouth, take the underpass and go to the savage coast.

you cant port to other zones until you unlock them by walking there but doesn't stop you from just walking from zone to zone.. but if you walk straight to blue mountain you will die as you will not be well enough geared to fight there.

Cool story though.
