Or Funcom could fix the combat and then I'd play it too as would many others. I would think you want the game you worship to do well. Why are you so upset at people who point out the flaws rather than the company allowing them to remain?
Thank you OP, i really appreciate your truly great efforts of convincing people not to play this game. The world would be quite sad without your outstanding and objective work. Try harder man. Everyone who doesnt play this game after reading your writings will be maybe one mm more on your e-peen. Love u.
Ya how dare the OP post something well thought out with evidence to prove his point. What he should have done is write something based entirely off of emotion, like you did. That would clearly have been the way to convince people to play/not play the game.

I agree, it's ok to point out the flaws, but some people take it WAY to far, if we pointed out the GW2 flaws like I did in another post, you would get creamed! Nailed to the wall.
Some people are excessive and that needs to stop , Now! I am a fan of both games TSW and GW2 but if you don't like the game move on,and go play something else simple as that, buuuuuut alot of people rather get a Rise out of everyone who actualy likes the game and it's bothersome,I honestly think that the mods of this site need to start suspending people for excessive flaw pointing because that turns into trolling.
i found the demostration to be quite entertaining. it was quite clear the OP was well-versed in the combat skills in his action bar (and he did use them all). however, an edited youtube video of you curb-stomping beta noobs does not constitute any kind of proof whatsoever that "combat is poorly designed"...only that the opponents were either experimenting with their own different builds (like many of us have) or that he was simply better.
(...)
how about we not pass judgement on a system for a game not even released yet, and better yet not come to a conclusion about combat design in a PvP match with beta-testers. good lord, man, seriously???
This.
I saw noob / tester destruction and I saw PVP combat. It seems that PVE leveling, dungeon, raiding were forgoten.

Wait, you think GW2 combat is bad but that TSW combat is good? Wow...
ok not taking sides here but, TSW at least you have to hit your abilities your builders ect to keep on top of a fight, GW2 just hit 1 then 2-4 repeat, do I find that borring? No but alot of others will

I enojyed the combat in this game I thought it worked really well for your average tab target combat system.. no more better or worse than GW2 thats for sure.. Animations where a bit dodgy during the first beta weekend but they have vastly improved..
Dont get me wrong i prefer a more active system like Darkfall or Mortal Online but for tab targeting i found TSW to be pretty fun..

its kind of funny how maitrader has managed to turn this into a GW2 thread. but i did read the OPs issue and i think it was the same one you are referring to with GW2. overly simple rotation.
i'm not taking a stance on that as i did not level high enough or experiment enough inTSW to agree/disagree.

I know people care about their games, but pointing out issues with the game (especially before release) actually help the game. Hell TotalBiscuit has been saying a lot of similar things to what have been echoed in this thread, and in response Funcom has tightened up the combat a bit. It still could be better, though.
Also, off-topic, but if you have valid criticisms about GW2 combat, by all means post about them (in the GW2 forums of course). There have definitely been criticisms (and still are) about the combat, but most of the stuff we see tends to be either missinformation, flaming, or trolling. Or simply not a valid criticism (ie. 'I don't like the combat, because I like animation lock'). What I've found w/ that community is if you post constructively, most fans will get behind you, or at least listen to your point. However, if you don't, then expect to wear a firesuit.
- Back on topic. I know this won't fix the skill monotony, but an easy thing they could do would be to add more varied impact to each of the weapons attacks. I.E. if you watch the video in the OP it still looks like he's swatting at the air. If the game had more impact sounds (like a fist slamming into someone), and some damage recieved animations (having the enemies react to taking a hit, rather than just flashing read), it would go a long way towards making the combat feel better. They're started doing this a little bit w/ weapons like the AR (adding a bit of recoil). I hope we see more of this after launch.
I'm more....dissapointed that other things aren't in the game then with combat. player housing for one., non combat things to do. craft system is ok. The repopulation is making what craft should be in games!
TSW combat is indeed just poor. This is compared to Tera, SWTOR, WoW, Warhammer, and even AOC.
They really need to completely overhaul the combat in TSW, whether it's putting more actives in or breaking the builder->finisher model for certain weapon types, or many other things.
Basically as it stands, playing TSW feels like playing a clunky, F2P version of a WoW rogue made for newbs who can't hotkey more than 7 abilities.
It's simplistic, dull and requires no skill, and there really is no variety at all once you realise that all weapons are just builder->finisher and they all play the same outside merely cosmetic differences.

You're angry because you know that I'm right. If you're playing GW2 by spamming 2-4, you're playing it wrong. Anyone who has played the game past level 8 will tell you the same thing.
As another poster already stated, it's way too early to judge the entire skill wheel. They've barely begun to start actually balancing the skills against one another.
If all everyone does is create simplified 1-2 rotations, and builds don't come around to counter them (as in the system working as it should), I'm hoping the devs will step in and make necessary changes. Buff skills no one is taking, for instance. It's typically what devs do.
If this is truly what happens and the devs don't even recognize it as an issue while the majority of players do, then I'll begin to worry, but until then.. Hell, give the devs a chance to react to what the masses do before you call them out for not fixing something.
And Aidelon/Eidelon is probably going to get the shit nerfed out of it. That being the passive that grants Blaze a 100% crit chance versus Afflicted (dot) targets.
Why? It's a 100% damage increase on a finisher in a single passive. I'm having a very hard time finding another ability/passive that provides nearly as much bang-for-buck.

I think that one of the biggest issues the combat has in this game is the lack of impact. There is no feel of hitting the opponent in melee. It's like your character is just flailing his arms/weapon around. That's why I prefer AR/pistols and shotgun. It just looks and feels better.
As far as the skills go, a lot of skills are very similar and combined with every weapon using the same builder/finisher system it feels too samey.

What and using 3rd party hotkey programs is skillfull... i think your wrong.. and any game that requires you to use hotkey software to be competitive has a flawed combat system..

I could give it time if this game were still in beta to fix the things wrong with it. However, it releases in less than a week with a sub/cash shop as if nothing is wrong with it. If this were a F2P game I'd buy it and think nothing of it. However, they are treating this as if it is a AAA mmo and is simply isn't as it currently stands. If GW2 released later this week i'd say the same thing about it. That game is not ready for release either.
So if it was free -to-play youde buy it... brilliant.

I actually agree with the lack of impact, but that's not really the aim of the thread. It's also an issue that has been highlighted a few times on the official forums.
Regarding the homogenization of builders/finishers.. Well.. I'm eager to see what the masses think of it and how the devs react. If they react.

Did you even read my post?
The issues highlighted in the OP aren't in public light.
Why?
The game isn't released yet, so the masses have done little more than dip their toes into it.
The devs can't react to an outcry that isn't there. Yet. If the OP is correct, it will be.
My solution to you, sir, is to not buy it, which you weren't going to anyways, and move on. It's voting with your wallet. It's very effective.
Maybe because i'm capable of actually building my own decks with synergies instead of copy & pasting a two button "smash" build which underperforms beyond bad 2 weeks after release.
While the happy 2 button build works like a charm in beta, post release you will need cc / counter and other utility skills as well as to adapt to your enemies.
While two impair (root) might work against the flavour of the month (because all those copy & paste decks have only one counter and no gap closer), next month you want a build which does decent against anti-kite decks, means to focus less on cc but more on burst damage. (they pay in heal & damage output for anti cc).
You can't have it all, just because i can get up to 3 status effects and 2 heal + 2 damage synergies into TWO SKILLS does not mean it's that simple.
"rotation" really says it all. You're so much focused on the builders and finishers (most are equal) you don't care for the status effects much and the synergies. You can't blame the game if you only build that way.
How about skills which add exploitable status effects? How about skills which depend on exploitable status effects? How about skills which work with status effects which are opened up by OTHER PLAYERS? How about having 3 of them? Or 5?
Or NONE?=
In short, if you can't be bothered with the meaningfull part (the building of decks) in TSW but just want many shiny buttons with a prefix "Build" aka "CLASS", TSW isn't for you.
I found that the video showed 1 over powered skilled PVPer fighting lesser skilled and lesser powered players.
Also - Fusang is meant for 100 vs 100 vs 100 battles. Thats where it shines. For smaller battles OP shoud have demonstrated El Dorado.
That's kinda problematic don't you think?
As the OP stated, that video is from closed beta. Not the beta weekend. Everyone was in QL10 gear for that. The fact that it doesn't look skill based should tell you something right there. Hell, that in & of itself (that the game allows for that much of a difference based on gear) is not a good indication of the pvp combat.
And also, I have yet to see a 100 vs 100 vs 100 battle in fusang. Not one. Some may have felt like it, but the largest fight I saw was at the end of the beta weekend, with ~ 80+ players duking it out (spread out amongst all 3 factions). I've also played around w/ AoE vs. single target builds & found that they make almost no difference (even in Fusang) because there simply aren't enough encounters where mobs are close enough together to get many hits off of the AoE. Which basicaly boils down to fusang turning into just a bunch of 1v1s, 1v2,s and 1v3s unless someone just gets zerged (in which case they last about 2seconds or run). His video demonstrates the average fight well enough. Most of my encounters in Fusang were at about the same odds.
Sure, I read you making a plea to give TSW time yet I didn't read a reason why we should be willing to do that. Why should we trust a developer that has ignored the issues with combat all through beta even though it has been pointed out to them by numerous people? Yet somehow these same devs are going to magically fix it after release if we just "give it time." My solution to you, sire, is to stop drinking the koolaid.
Wait.. Really?
I said if you didn't like what was currently on the table to not support the devs and not buy it the game.
I never said to support them (by buying it) and wait for it to magically become something you like. Or to trust them. I certainly don't.
This is easy shit man, easy shit. You're reading what you want to read and reading opposition where there is none.
Let me pull out the crayons:
You no like game?
You no buy game.
Done.
There is ZERO reason why you can't WAIT to buy (or not buy) the game until you determine what the devs are (or are not) going to do.

Wait..
You really have no choice in the matter.
.. But in a good way.
