Nice video. A consolidated arguement for once. They want open world pvp but are willing to accept that this game just won't have it. (Possibility of duels though)

A little fanboish but objective as you can possibly be for a game you can't help but appreciate.

Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

That sucker's been recycled for every new game since 2004 (the "Go Back To WoW" form is always quite popular).  It's...tired, to say the least.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

    The title could also be

"if you want WoW 2.0 this is Why you WON'T like Guild Wars 2".

The OP took the liberty of saying the pod discuss the negatives of GW2, but that isn't the pod topic.

Yes I always enjoy someone telling me what I will like and dislike!!  I am not going to watch the video because I have been in all 3 BWEs and I have really enjoyed the game.

    It's very simple folks.

    1) People will like GW2 and play it.

    2) People will dislike GW2 and not play it and play something else.

For anyone posting how GW2 will fail, I am glad you can predict the future.  You must be very rich and powerful from your skill, but then again I don't think rich and powerful people are spending time surfing this site. (shrug) maybe they are.

Though there was a warning for language at the start... I'm sure I'm not the only mature adult in the world who would have respected the podcast a lot more if the useless foul language wasn't present.  Aside from the pointless use of foul language the show was some what good and I somewhat agree concerning the points as to why some people wont / don't like Guild Wars 2.

The video isn't really what you think it is.

It is a video explaining how GW2 is different from more "traditional" MMORPGs, what that means, what features are present and aren't.

No one in the POD except the OP said they are negatives, just preferences (actually to anyone seeing the pod is clear they are fans of GW2).

If a person likes to play healer, well there is no healer in GW2 and there are reasons why.

    @ OP

Because it's another High Fantasy mmo, but will soon cave in due to peer pressure. I will play it for a month or when burnout and repetition sinks in and move on. To me, I don't think GW2 will keep me playing for months, but I will just enjoy what I can out of the B2P game and stay clear of their cash shop.

everything on that list can be turned into a positive.

    Ill have a go

Cashshop: IT IS NOT Pay 2 WIN = positive.

    [mod edit]

Just like I can turn your posatives into negatives. I'm not huge of 'negative' responses but considering how much blind hype I sort of see why they made it this way.

Damn, over-reaction much? I may find the list hilriously bad for me persoanally, but just because its a disenting view doesnt mean we should just jump all over him. I would not mind a rebuttle peice though.......

I can't watch the video...but I read over the topics, and I was honestly expecting some better constructive criticisms.  Some of them are decent, like no first person camera.  It would be nice to get a first person view, even if you can only see it while standing still for screenshots.  Not a huge deal, but I acknowledge it.  Same with mounts, would be nice, but not necessary.

But some of the other topics....I just don't know lol.  Like having to go into options to turn off double tap dodge...huh?  Maybe this was presented tongue-in-cheek or something, but I really don't see how this is an issue :).

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Summary: After a few weeks of gathering questions and information from people in our guild as well as those on the alttabme.com forums who had played Guild Wars 2, we decided it was time to dive into the not so popular and turns out, not so easy to do topic of: "Why you won't like Guild Wars 2". We tried to approach this very objectively and give you points as to why we think you may not like it and why we think that is OK and may or may not make the game "better" or "worse". Enjoy!

    Some topics:

    Cash Shop
    High Adjustment Curve
    No Raids
    No World PvP
    No Faction Tension
    No Gear Dependency
    It isn't WoW
    Too much Hype
    Kitty Power

Hey, thank you very much for this, exactly what I was looking for, appreciate it. image

High adjustment curve concerns me a bit, not quite as adaptable as I used to be, but I've gotten through TERA and TSW so I'm hoping I'll be able to adjust to GW2 as well.

I view some of the other items as positives actually, (no raids, no gear dependency), some I don't care about (cash shop, no world PVP) and I haven't played much WOW in quite some time. (those 2 months for Cata don't count)

Actually my two concerns that will likely make GW2 a short term experience for me is the lack of virtually endless character progression (gear grinding is only one way to advance), a la perhaps DAOC's Realm ranks. (in terms of actual character power and not cosmetics which don't interest me)

The other issue is the lack of long term territory control and denial of same to others.  (a la EVE)

I realize both of these items are more the realm of more consequence oriented  PVP games or even sandboxes, but still are two major features I'd love some title to contain, but realize of course that isn't GW2.

But regardless, none of the issues mentioned above will really keep me from finding some fun in GW2 for some period of time, I've stopped trying to find the magic MMO that gets "everything" right, that day won't ever come. image

Not just sure what the op's intention were naming this thread ...perhaps a little troll but the actual content of the pod-cast supplied some of the best PR I've seen for this game since I read the ArenaNet Manifesto

In one swoop these four people look every troll topic I've seen posted about GW2 and shot it in the foot ...then corrected the false hoods made by many detractors and then applied a kill shot to the head of the topic

I am darn sure the TSW and Tera fanbois will find this pod-cast very much to their disliking but as far as a GW2 fan this was about as good as it gets.

That is the name of the pod.

That is their response to questions they had on the forums.

The only trollish thing the OP did was saying "negatives".

Cmon guys, just because haters troll GW2 all day long there is no need to leave the brain home.

    Fun fact.

I found this video on a Guild Wars 2 fansite by chance whilst googling to find out more information about WvWvW.

Both haters and fans jump at what is front of them, without watching/listening.

It is intereting to see both fans and haters think this is an anti-GW2 piece when it is a pro-GW2 piece.

    Haven't played yet :(

Will await the free trail though, pretty excited for this game.

But it doesn't seem like a world.

More like any other mmorpg these days with quests, no player housing only done much better.

I'm afraid I will find the game to restricting, even with random events and what not and exploring.

I like to set my own goals and more importantly have lots of options to make them happen and not do what the game tells me to do.

If there is a thing that this game does well is looking like a living world (and making you play and wanting to play with other people).

I meant it more like something you live in. So gameplay wise (player content) instead of atmosphere.

SWG I considered a world (player content). WOW most certainly not. (no player content)

I haven't read much about crafting and how the economy is being handled and how many options you have in pvp (and pve) so I hope I'm wrong.

There are things on that list that don't make me like GW2 more, but the good outweight the negative for me.

Bag space. Its pretty limited, but you can make it bigger with cash or buy gems with ingame money.

range vs melee. Yeah melee is weaker, but every class can range fight and melee is useful at times (just not all the time).

Armor repair. Yeah it would be nice if you could repair at any merchant.
