I just watched the whole hour and forty-some odd minutes of this. It is a good podcast covering some aspects about GW2 that some people have brought up. I found it very informative. Sure, they got off-track a few times and could cut down the time to watch a bit, but many human interactions tend to get sidetracked from time to time
I have not been a follower of GW2. In the past few weeks, I have found some good information on the game that has piqued my interest to delve further into what the game is all about. This is one of those.
They stated MANY times that they, themselves, had trouble coming up with some reasons. I guess one cannot judge a post by it's cover The part about "No fishing! I won't play it!" was hilarious.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
An hour of listening to some guy trying to convince himself that he shouldn't like GW2? Yeah, ok. I don't think so. Someone would have to be pretty determined to convince themselves that they are right in their dislike of the game in order to sit through that! Self brain washing?
People are strange...
BTW, if the video is a "Pretend this is an anti-GW2 video, then lay out reasons why the critics are wrong" offering, that's just as big an annoyance, IMO. The trend of presenting false opposition to attract reads/views is wearing very thin...

Tr1age is crazy. Says he doesn't do drug but that makes it worse. Very out there and wired. Then they all just keep saying how it isn't like wow over and over. Way to repetitive also. I made it to 36min. Shocked I even made it that far with out falling asleep. Didn't even get to hear any points I might agree with.
Havn't had a chance to watch the video myself, some of those points can go either way tbh. The biggest question isn't the list itself, its how well they can implement said list and keep their game interesting.
As long as they can make the WvW have a purpose in the game...then I think this game will have a great cosumer retention.
Okay, so I feel like I had to come in here and defend the honor of my friends on the podcast. And yes, it's me! PsionicFox from Podcasts 3&4!
The whole point of this topic, the WHOLE point, was took at reasons why someone might think: 'You know, this game just isn't for me." Not once did they bash people for thinking that, they just tried to approach potential issues the game might raise. Let me give you an example:
- The Adjustment Curve. With dodging, abolishing the tank/healer/dps 'holy trinity', weapon selectionss dictating the first five skills on your action bar, the lack of multiple factions, the ability to progress in level not through the grind of mob killing, but by getting involved in dynamic events and so on, I can understand why some people will have a hard time with the game. Even those who played GW1 will have some level of an adjustment curve. Take myself for example. I played WoW from back in vanilla beta, all the way through to Cata. I downed Deathwing, did all that cool stuff. But I was still excited for GW2. So when the first BWE rolled around, I was ready to dive in. And you know what? It took a bit of getting used to. Having to dodge while keeping aware of my surroundings for adds plus using skills to control and dmage my foe? That was a lot to take in from the get-go. So it took some getting used to. Looking for dynamic events and renown hearts that gave me multiple methods of achieving success, that took getting used to. But once I got used to it, I really liked it.
But there will be some people who, in their first few hours of playtime, will decide 'this game isn't my thing'. And that's okay. So the podcast raises the fact that this game is NOT one of the MMO's of yore. It is a new fresh look at the genre. Does this all make sense now? For the raging fanboys out there who think its 1:41 of some dude hating on GW2, think again. Its four people who try really hard to find things that SOME PEOPLE will probably NOT LIKE about Guild Wars 2. I know that's difficult for you to swallow, how people can be different and all, but this is the sort of podcast that might help convert those naysayers over to this glorious game. And if you're still not convinced, go back and take a look at earlier podcasts. #5 was the post-beta wind down. 3&4 talk about WvW and sPvP. And we don't bash the game. Most of the time we talk about how AWESOME the game is! So don't hate before at least giving the podcast a proper viewing.
And to those who want to cry about the language thing: You know what? Its the internet. And its our opinions. So if we want to say: "F**k man, this game is the most f**king amazeballs game I have ever played! How f**king cool is that?" We can. We even put a language advisory on the damn thing! That's like going to an M15+ movie that cites 'strong violence', and complaing that there's 'too much violence'. Guess what? YOU WERE WARNED. Build a bridge and get over yourself. I cuss as part of my normal speech. Its a habitual part of my vocal patterns. I have to watch it when I'm teaching, because we're not supposed to do that in front of teenagers (for reasons I fail to understand). So if I'm on a podcast where I'm not restricted in my manner of speech, then I'm going to swear. There is no fakery in the podcast. We don't script it, we don't do it for cheap thrills, its just how we talk. Don't like it? Have yourself a nice f**king day, and move the f**k on.
Ahh, people who dedicate their free time to things they don't like.. I'll never, ever, get it..
Who's doing that?
A pod-cast addressing all the negatives in Guild Wars 2.
eather way,ive met people in other mmos who i guess think its a cool thing to play a video game.not like it,and spend there entire day bitching about the game.so yeah,im kinda with Boognishe on ill never really get why you play games you dont like, maybe its just some people are to stupid to quit playing or think its something besides being extremely annoying to bitch about the game 24/7
GW2 will fall on it's face, although i am a big fan of the original GW games, any MMO being made in the past 3 years is a guaranteed flop, sad but true, current developers have no clue what people want in an MMO these days, we are about to see MMO's collapse cause nobody wants to listen to the community...MMO's are at there end people, sucks but it's true

So why didn't you just move on? You don't understand how using curse words is kinda dumb down speech? I curse but when you think about it there are way better ways to express yourself. It's more for shock value or out of habit. Hence it takes little thought.
Is it that shocking you had to learn how to play a new game? It is just like you and the podcast are like " OMG it isn't WoW and now I might need to learn how to play a new game that isn't as complex as I try to make it out to be."
Don't put stuff out to the public if you can't take the heat. Your so called defending is laughable.
Considering per sales and likely sales after release this game will be a smash hit not a flop. So big sales and brilliant refreshing game made by developers who have not followed the standard mmorg model from the last 5 years. You are mistaken or tired of mmorgs.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

the problem with listening to your playerbase is.alot of them just want to complain, and think that copying and pasting wow into there mmo will be something thats a good thing
swtor is a example of what happens when you listen to your playerbase to much in a mmo.it falls on its face after 6 months,so if anything.arenanet needs to make there own minds up instead of listening to its more of the same crybaby community that just wants world of warcraft copyed and pasted into the game so they can whine everyday about being bored and then quit
I dont like GW2 because its another in a loooooooooooong list of Fantasy MMO's. Personally tired of that genre. It probrobly will be a good game, but still wont play it for that reason. Sorry.

So you have managed to quote my entire post, and showed an ability to pluck evidence from text on your first point, and then you fail to repeat this on your second? Read my post again. It is stated that this MIGHT be a reason why someone doesn't like the game. Some people don't like to adapt and try new things. I'm not one of those people, and I have enjoyed my experiences with GW2 thus far. But SOME people will have an issue with the way the game plays, because it's not like the MMO's they have played in the past.
Just to come back to your first point, I think refusing to swear, or making it 'taboo' is stupid. You get youself into forbidden fruit territory by banning it. Besides which, its not like they don't know how to swear. They watch plenty of tv and movies with it, their parents probably do it, and so do their peers. And you know what? Both of my parents are highly educated, and are successful and well-respected within their fields. Yet they never forbadr or restricted certain language. What they DID do was teach me appropriate-ness. Which is the main reason why I don't swear in front of students. But outside of a work setting, in a format where I am free to voice my opinion as I see fit? Why should I modify my choice of language to protect your delicate sensibilities? You've got a clear warning at the start of the podcast. Make of that what you will.
The downed state and having the 'auto attack' wasted as a skill when it really isn't needed and they could of added another more interesting skill there.
'I have long since closed my eyes... My only goal is in the Darkness.'
The downed state and having the 'auto attack' wasted as a skill when it really isn't needed and they could of added another more interesting skill there.
Just fyi, the 'auto attack' isn't a skill, it's a feature that's defaulted to the first skill, because the first skill the the only one w/ no cooldown / resource spender.
If you don't like the auto attack (and there have been cases where I didn't like it either), you can either disable it, or asign it to one of the other skills.

So person might not like it since it isn't WoW? Seems very basic to me. Is it that mind blowing that a new game plays different? Every game I played there is something to adapt to or learn. It is also very much like few other mmo's I have played. It isn't as different from mmo that have been out that people make it out to be.
Swearing is taboo to some people. I don't care about it. I just find it funny you complain about people complaining about it. Then go on to curse them out. Great way to handle yourself.
the gw2 community has already made itself look pretty bad.any mature person thats played world of warcraft already can see
It's kind of scary at times. I mean. We're all excited for Guild Wars 2 coming out. But when it comes to people going off like a loose cannon when a negative word is in the same sentence as Guild Wars 2. People need to tone down the fanaticism.

I don't think it is. But it still does not bring enough to the table. I need more player created content. Simple as that.
