Guild Wars 2 needs elite difficulty content...EDIT:guess i was wrong

Sure, we all play games to have fun, but in order to have fun you also need to be challenged to some extent. I have leveled a couple characters to 20-25 and what i've noticed is that DE are mind-numbingly easy mode (no chance of failure) when there is a zerg, very slightly difficult when there are 2-3 people, and slightly difficult when you are by yourself. I don't think there has been anything yet where a goal seemed overwhelmingly difficult. I feel that in order to motivate players, you NEED to have content that must be very difficult to accomplish (but accomplishing it is voluntary, not necessary for character progession). By difficult i do not necessarily mean grind. Even as a casual player, i like the idea of having elite dungeons that only a few people can complete, even if myself I probably would never be able complete it.

How would you all feel if by 1 week into the game, people already had reached max level and the master ancient dragon, who laid waste to half of Tyria, was already put onto farm status by a bunch of guilds? Pretty lame if you asked me. The master dragon of tyria should only go down if 75% of the server population was beating on him at the same time or if somehow all the tyrian gods were summoned at the same time and started knocking the crap out of it.

A good distribution would be like 60% normal content, 20% somewhat hard, 10% very hard, 9% super hard, 1% virtually impossible.

UPDATE: after reading the posts and videos on this thread and doing some of my own research i discovered that arenanet does have lots of difficult content in store for us at later levels. explorable dungeons will be very difficult to beat and world content will get much harder as we all level up as arenanet weans us off the handing-holding heart quests and pushes us into more complex dynamic event webs. They have also stated numerous times in their interviews that they know that hardcore gamers make up a very significant part of the population so they have ensured that content is in place for us as well.

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

Heres a hard mode for you, take off all your gear besides weapons. Now everything will probly one shot or close to it. Now try not to get hit by anything and kill shit. Enjoy.

BTW, GW2 never once states that you need to wear gear, so basically the gear is just cattering to casuals like not going to those spyglass icons to see the whole map.

One of the reasons I'm waiting to buy the game. I want to see what people say about the challenge of the game as you level. I'm tired of games where the only question is how many mouse clicks does it take to get to end game. :(

    Explorable dungeon mode.

    [Edit]

And no, not all DE's are mind numbingly easy. I can assure you of that.

GW2 is primarily a PvP centric game in terms of difficulty, while it does have some interesting PvE elements the game is designed for the challenge of PvP not PvE.

If you want hardmode PvE dungeons & gear ladders WoW still has the template you're looking for.

That happens no matter what game there is.   In Rift the end-boss dragon was on farm in it's first week by some elitist completionest guilds.  Does that effect MY FUN?  No.  Do I even care that they did it? No.   So, why should you?

GW2 explorable dungeons will be challenging

tanks holding aggro is a "trivial" mechanic that traditional dungeons use in other mmos

ive done events that are piss easy and i have wiped with groups of 25 peopl ein 1 dynamic event.
So difficulty changes in events, and are in now way static or all easy / hard.

I heared that the hardest pve takes place in dungeons, so lets wait and see how hard that realy is.

Still the game is making its release and arenanet is standby to increase or decrease difficulty while we play and report content to wasy or hard.

And we will be sure that Arenent like to give us some challenge ;)

Time will show us, speaking of that ONLY 6 DAYS LEFT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who cares if they rush to max lvl? They'll be missing out on all the fun and i'll still be exploring and enjoying myself.  The content caters to your lvl so you can find a challenge at 80 in the beginning lands. Have fun, take your time..quit worrying about how others play their game.

who said difficulty had to mean gear ladders? in guild wars 1 i reached max level and max gear 2 weeks after launch, 4 years later they still are pumping out interesting, highly difficult elite dungeons that have great rewards without increasing max lvl or stats of gear- and all this is NOT MANDATORY.

side note, i never played wow but i played a lot of raid-style games (including rift). I personally thing tiered content is pretty stupid and a huge scam but raiding itself can actually be fun if you are not forced to grind it for several weeks in a row. guild wars 2 should and most likely will implement organized raid content at some point, but it should only be sparsely used and would not be the main focus of endgame.

    Totalbiscuit and Explorable Dungeon

call it an immersion thing. the same thing that makes you feel like guild wars 2 is a living, breathing, world. if the ancient boss dragon that is destroying our world is dead while i'm still killing foxes and wolves at uncle billie's farm, then it kinda kills motivation. guild wars 2 is a community based mmorpg based on player-player social interactions- its not a single player game where you just go in and just ignore everyone and what they do around you (i guess you can play it that way if you really want).

Not without pve only overpowered skills. You won't see elite difficulty content from ArenaNet.

Given that no one has seen above level 35 content, how do you know that it does not have content that is extremely difficult?

I, personally, am hoping that they will use their ability to create large scale content regularly. I would love to see more crystaline invasions or bosses landing in zones randomly or other events that they trigger to keep people on their toes.

I am almost certain that this is what they were testing at the end of every BWE- their ability to do so, and I would say that it worked.

    "Loading screens" are not "instances".
Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.

heh I'm all for discussions as that's what we have these forums for but I always like video with gameplay footage to back up or support an argument if at all possible.

only explorable i have seen is the first one so yea considering that's only a level 30-35 dungeon I'd say the later ones should be a bit more challenging.

Erm, you do know about dungeons right? Did you play any of them?

Story mode dungeons are not too hard, but the 3 x explorable mode dungeons that unlock after you have done story mode (and each takes you on a different route with different challenges) are pretty damn tough.

I gree with Zezda not all dungeon are easy, you said you got your chracters up to 20 to 25 that still not enought to explore everything!!

my highest  lvl is 45 Ranger and their is elite mode in dungeon!! did you even fight the giants spider or defeated the Queen?? or even the elits giants? these is all in the Catacomb's and you get to choose 1 out of 3 areas to explore once you enter what area to explore its very huge it's all lvl restriction so at lvl 25 you cant even enter or start it.

Just to let you know its not easy we all died like 50 times till we figure it out it took us like 5 hours to complete but we all came out with epic gars which was all worth it!! the fun and exciting starts at lvl 35+ just to let you know.

last thing make sure you explore every inch of each map! each map will have more then one hidden area with hard mobs to defeat to grab the reward!!

That's contradictory to the overall design theme of GW2 that allows people with too many family and work committments to simply show up and win.  You're either lying, really bad, or the difficulty will be lowered.

Ive seen you say that show up and win crap a lot of times lately.

Are you purposely ignoring the fact that arenanet has created chains for defeat too? If they wanted you to always win they wouldnt even bother.

Also arenanets vision is that you can get higher level items without commitment to 1 thing or a serious gear grind.

Getting rares is pretty fucking easy and exotics( the highest stat tier) is just a lil more dificult.

You dont need to do dungeons they are completely optional. Crafting items of the same rarity level will give you the same stat numbers overall as the dungeon ones, just different stat allocations.

Actually, it all depends on the class you choose, and the number of enemies you pack. Try a Thief with packs of 4-5 enemies that are 2 levels above yours, for example ;) Quite a (rewarding) challenge !
