I have no problem with idiotic namecalling - I have a problem with idiotic namecalling often clouding a valid opinion.
I have a lot of faith in our youth so I hope you are able to spot the difference?
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!! (repeat ad infinitum)
I don't honestly believe that people who claim to hate GW2 actually do. Many of these people claimed they've played thousands of hours of games like EQ, DAoC, and WoW. How could they hate a game that is stepping of the box while trying to attract most classic RPG lovers? There's been mutterings of the genre dying choking on the venom of their communities and the greed of publishers. Why would people who are so passionate about the genre turn on their own?
Didn't check the whole thread, similar things may have been said:
I don't hate GW2, the game. But I'm not going to play it. Because it has the worst fanbase I've ever encountered (well, maybe except Darkfall pre-launch), and I don't want anything to do with them. Browsing MMORPG.com and a few other forums isn't wise for someone on the fence - the fanatical hijacking of just about every thread in any subforum may be a huge turnoff. It was (and still is) for me.
I honestly didn't saw anyone being flamed by the community only because they were on the "fence".
Only saw it happening to people that went around posting negative things they would state as "facts", without having a clue about the game at all.
It also depends on the way one is posting you know?
Other than that the mmorpg.com community is not the whole community you will find in the game and the forumgoers won't even make one quarter of the whole GW2 community cause most people tend not to visit any forums at all.
So you can't really base everything on a forum or two as being the whole community and honestly, except of maybe 2-3 people that were very immature, I can say that everyone else was decent to great in the mmorpg.com guild wars 2 forums so far.
At least that's the experience I have made here so far.
It would be nice if you actually READ what you respond to.
I never said that the ones on the fence got flamed. I talked about BROWSING the forums.
Try again, please.
Oh you didn't?
I think you should read your own reply?
You typed this:
But I'm not going to play it. Because it has the worst fanbase I've ever encountered (well, maybe except Darkfall pre-launch), and I don't want anything to do with them. From my understanding and based on what you wrote it looks as if the "fanatical fanbase will flame everyone that is on the fence and posts anything that might be negative".
That leads to you saying that you don't want to play the game because of the so called community that is "hijacking about every thread".
So my response were based on what I understood from your post and my response was friendly.
Unlike your response that tries to offend.
Anyway, I stated my point that from my experience in the last 8 years on these boards, I can say that people getting mostly negative responses after they posted something negative without backing it up or explaining with valid points most of the time, instead of getting "randomly attacked".
With that being said, I wish you all the best in everything you do and hope you will enjoy a other mmo that suits you more.
Your "understandings" suggests you're unable to read anything at all without over-analyzing it. It's quite possible to mean exactly what you write, without hiding sub-meanings and whatever behind every word, you know.
Anyway, troll alone from now. I've stated my opinions, accept them or not, they're just as valid as yours'.
y'know. the real problems with gw2 are the same problems with every mmo that has ever been launched:
some people have decided that some other people's opinions are invalid. they'e not. everyone is entitled to their opinion even if you think it's wrong. sure some people troll in one direction or another (it's the internet, what do you expect?). sure some people make wildly innaccurate statements (again, these statements come from both sides), but all you can do is give them some facts. no one's opinion has ever been changed by rational debate because opinions aren't really rational. so give them the facts and leave it at that. calling them and idiot, or lazy, or a troll is not going to help. it's going to hurt. it's going to hurt them and it's going to hurt your argument.
some people are getting really vocally hyped about it. this is not a problem. every new game that comes out is coming out before an ever more disillusioned audience. every person in this audience is looking for a game to save them from the horrors of the industry as it stands now. gw2 will not succeed in this respect. not for everyone (see point 1). but before launch there will be a very vocal group of people who are terribly excited about the latest game. and for every action there will be an equal and opposite reaction. the reaction is people who do no like the game, and who feel that they need to match the people who do in volume. (see point 1)
so how do we get around this? we don't. humans like to bicker. so we can't get around this little vicious circle. what we can do is try not to feed the flames. if you see a post that pisses you off and you absolutely have to respond to it right this instant: don't. take a break. look at pictures of kittens/puppies/bison (bison are adorable too). then come back and see if that post, or that poster, is really worth responding to.
i'm sorry if this sounds preachy, but i would really like it if people were a bit more civil, sane, and open minded about these things, and i feel this is a good way to go about that. so please. everyone. fans and detractors alike. stop it. there's no point. some people like the game, some people don't. some people love it, some people hate it. some people like this aspect of it, some people don't. this is not a problem. do you (maybe not you per se, but maybe that guy behind you hah! made you look!) really care if this one person plays or doesn't play, likes the game or doesn't? it's not that big of a deal.
so. can we all just chill. the heck. out?
and ignore the trolls. no matter which side they're taking.
I don't honestly believe that people who claim to hate GW2 actually do. Many of these people claimed they've played thousands of hours of games like EQ, DAoC, and WoW. so you like another couple posters on here you are basing the entire GW2 community on the very vocal minority? really doesn't add up to me. If you actually had any interest in the game you probably would get it not because a couple people annoy you in the forums
Go to any youtube video about gw 2 and read the wow vs gw2 comments........ and flaming for pages there 2. I've had the same treatment on gw2 facebook page.
i think most fans of games now can be terrible and not just mmos..the entire gaming community is just pathetic if you ask me and not what games should be about.I just see gw2 as a little worse than the rest because some really do believe this game is the best thing since sliced bread....and thats not the problem at all...thats a great thing. The problem is how they react to other that question it.
again you are stereotyping based on a tiny % of the overall community
Really??? ...every major news source for this game a tiny % of the community.ok, i see.
Never seen anyone in game being offensive or rude to anyone else and I've clocked in at least 100 hours.

Yeah. Don't you just HATE that?

People are writing well formed posts about the game only be dead wrong about almost everything they wrote! They want to convince people that an MMORPG shouldn't be played or at least tried by fans of the genre.
I wish that people would stop pretending that its the game that they're hating NOT the fans of the game. I'm tried of the all contrived ways people are coming up with to justify their Gamer Envy. Yep, I said envy. Many people who play MMOrpgs play them out the obligation or habit but...................
IT WASN"T ALWAYS LIKE THIS. THEY USED TO ENJOY GAMES THEY PLAYED.
The journey was the adventure. Challenge was fun not duanting. Gear was for show and you guildmates were family in every way that mattered.
Now there's a game that has captured that spirit again they want to pretend that the game glaring flaws or shortcomings. IMHO they want to feel the excitement and wonder many GW2 fans have for their own game. They envy the experience that can't be brought with a box set or with a monthly subscription fee. It's the true love that comes with being a fan the game. Your gear can't show you love neither can your PVP rating. Only community full of passionate and welcoming fans can do that.
If you read through this thanks. I really need to get this off my chest.
I love the hell out of SW:TOR, It has great content, leveling up is the best in any game..great story you actually get stuck in and want to play it again...and the PvP is FUN, regardless if it's "balanced" or whatever , it is fun and I am having a blast...I played GW2 and it just dosen't compare to me..so no..I don't give a shit what anyone says, and yes I do play a game for what I think is fun.
I really don’t understand most of the haters, especially because a lot of them hate games they don’t even play. So why bother, if you don’t like the game or the community just keep away, don’t waste your time.
But I guess some people just enjoy criticizing, I feel sorry for those … wait no I don’t, and they deserve their poor sick mind.
- Indifferent or waiting for after launch player feedpack (maybe including reading reviews in the process)
- Disliking the game
- Haters
Both fanboys and haters are either delusional, trolls or shills. Simply liking or disliking a game are perfectly valid though and they tend to not act like idiots.
Personally I'm in the "waiting for after launch player feedback" camp.

And you know what : what will be fun will be to watch you, doomers, you, people, who are sitting on your armchair analyst throne, and watch you fade away, silently.
(what's fun is to see how you're playing the safety card by extending the doom to 6 monthes. Heck, 6 monthes is considered a success, as no MMO since WoW has sustained in the top 3 played MMOs for that long)
Now, if you could just "chill back and relax, and watch" for real, and silently, please, that would save a lot of animosity here.
First: You see so many "snarky suckerpunches" from people towards GW2 simply because the equal if not greater amount towards other non-GW2 titles is so great that no one can ever get a word in edgewise. Also, if we point out anything at ALL negative about GW2 that is obvious people blindly cover it up and ignore it. However, this always happens with new releases and people still in their "honey moon" state towards a title. Happened with Rift, Aion, TERA, SWTOR, still going on with TSW, and it'll happen with GW2.
Is it a good thing to declare war on a "clan", just because a group of guys from that "clan" did spread some pooh over someone's wall ? (Is it even a modern way of thinking to categorize people into "clans" ?)
Also, it is not that "we" cover and ignore game's defaults (we, because I belong to those people). Like I wrote previously, it is because I'm, personally, fed up with seeing the same 2 or 3 same defaults being pointed up over and over, with new threads created over and over just for the sake of the criticizer having his own forum glory. Like I wrote : We get it. We get it that the game has some flaws, just like any other game. I already read tons of articles, reviews, forum posts (!!) about it. I just don't need yet another poster#217821 creating a damn thread about it, nor even trying to hijack a nice positive discussion with it (discussion which often has nothing related to poster#217821's sudden critic).
(p.s : don't take this personally, I'm just trying to express an opinion here)

and to add on to this you can see a thread I made recently about DE's with a long dev summary and included several videos of fans playing through DE's and explaining what they are and how they are differn't in GW2, then one of the first replies I get is from Jimmydean that goes
"Here's the TL:DR version. "I had to save my allowance for 3 months to be able to afford GW2. Now I spend all of my time trying to convince others to make the same purchase, so that I am secure in the money investment I have made."
Then there seems to be a middle ground where a large majority exist then? Right now I see why people like GW2, but at the same time I have a hard time justifying another Themepark to myself.
However, on either side it seems to be we're having to deal with massive trolls. On one side we have the "Fairy" trolls that are trying to hype GW2 up to "Godlike" status because they've never experienced a decent MMO in their life before.
Then, on the other side we have "ButtHurt" trolls that can't be bothered to research into GW2 and blindly call it a WoW-Clone. Yes, we know, WoW = themepark & GW2 = themepark but that doesn't make it a clone because it is the same design concept. Shadowbane = Sandbox & SWG = Sandbox, think about that for a minute.
So sure, I completely understand where your frustrations are coming from. Right now, I'm frustrated because i'm seeing the EXACT same stuff that happened with SWTOR pre-release. People hyping it up as the second coming, and then because they overhyped said game it fails the impossible expectations and is considered a failure before it has a chance. SWTOR, sure...it deserved to flop, but I don't personally believe, despite all of my misgivings about it, that GW2 deserves to flop...quite the opposite.

Stop with the stupid excuse "I won't play this game, because fans are bad."
What fans? You mean the few people on this forum? This game has thousands of pre-purchase and pre-orders. How can someone be stupid enough to judge community by few fans that are active on forum. Thousands of people will play this game. Hundreds of mature guilds with good players. Is it your first game ever? Never played mmo before? Every community has it's black sheep, and those sheep talk the most on forum, but you don't see them in game that much.
That "I won't play, because of other players" pfff, just another fake argument. Few guys talk bad on forums, so I won't play, come on, grow up.
Suddenly everyone is soooo social, because it is so great reason to flame the game more...
To be blunt, and I'm not directly saying that you're a fan of this game or an active member of the online campaign, this is the kind of condescending, arrogant drivel that you can get regularly from this section of the forums, and is the reason I don't want to be associated with the MMO or the players. Yeah, other people are effecting my decision making. I wasn't interested before I started reading threads like these, and after I started digging around to find useful information or read other opinions from testers, I was bothered by the patronizing attitudes and high-horsing. It's pretty insufferable.
It isn't hate for the game, and my dislike for the community is genuine: sorry. The game isn't of interest to me, and after reading posts from early adopters, why the fuck would I want to surround myself by these people and pay for the experience, and why the fuck wouldn't I want to voice that opinion on the message board I call home?

Yea, a comment like this is why I've been trying to distance myself from GW2 fans lately. The amount of "High Horsedness" is absurd.
Throughout that response all I could hear in my head was Paris Hilton saying all of it.

OP, welcome to the internet, and most of all welcome to MMORPG.com. If you haven't noticed, most of the people here seem to have an obsession with hating on every new game that comes out.
I think people are hating on GW2 in order to get a rise out of all the GW2 fanboys who trashed every other mmo this year on this site.
So don't cry just make stiff lip and take the hate you spewed at other games fans this past year.

And yet you fail to write properly and without offending someone.
Congratulations.
If you mean it the way you wrote it then it doesn't make any sense.
Why?
Because according to your comment you won't play GW2 because the whole MMORPG.com community is bad, fanatical and highjacks all threads.
The mmorpg.com community is not only about GW2, it's about all mmos there and in the 8 years I'm here, I have see similar things taking place no matter the game so without "overanalyzing it" and basing it only to your wording, it would mean that the whole mmorpg.com community is that. Which means all featured games.
So my question is: WHY are you here in the first place if the community is THAT bad and why do you play ANY mmo since this community here talks about ALL featured mmos and plays them aswell?
Why did you also select not to play GW2 out of all the featured games that are played by the same community?
Not that I will miss you in GW2, just curious.
Thanks for calling me a troll as well, it shows how mature you actually are!
I think people are hating on GW2 in order to get a rise out of all the GW2 fanboys who trashed every other mmo this year on this site.
So don't cry just make stiff lip and take the hate you spewed at other games fans this past year.
And why are you here then? Once again, a hypocrit.
Edit: But the entire forum and website and world are full of them.
Its spelled Hiypocrite and how am I one? I did not trash your game I just explained why your game is getting trashed so much which I believe is deserved.
I'm just a spectator who is watching kids screaming at each other that there toy is the coolest and anyone who disagree's is dumb.

I have no problem with idiotic namecalling - I have a problem with idiotic namecalling often clouding a valid opinion.
I have a lot of faith in our youth so I hope you are able to spot the difference?
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!

y'know. the real problems with gw2 are the same problems with every mmo that has ever been launched:
I self identify as a monkey.
Never seen anyone in game being offensive or rude to anyone else and I've clocked in at least 100 hours.
Gaming and MMOs even more so have been shown to manifest an addiction like any other type of addiction. There are many clinics worldwide that treat gaming addictions so take that how you will..

Yeah. Don't you just HATE that?
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
(-_-)
I really don’t understand most of the haters, especially because a lot of them hate games they don’t even play. So why bother, if you don’t like the game or the community just keep away, don’t waste your time.
But I guess some people just enjoy criticizing, I feel sorry for those … wait no I don’t, and they deserve their poor sick mind.
- Fanboys
- Liking the game
- Indifferent or waiting for after launch player feedpack (maybe including reading reviews in the process)
- Disliking the game
- Haters
Both fanboys and haters are either delusional, trolls or shills. Simply liking or disliking a game are perfectly valid though and they tend to not act like idiots.
Personally I'm in the "waiting for after launch player feedback" camp.
I will second that. The community in the game is 100% helpful. I have yet to see any chat about another gaming or trolling.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
(p.s : don't take this personally, I'm just trying to express an opinion here)
***** Before hitting that reply button, please READ the WHOLE thread you're about to post in *****
and to add on to this you can see a thread I made recently about DE's with a long dev summary and included several videos of fans playing through DE's and explaining what they are and how they are differn't in GW2, [mod edit]

The Theory of Conservative Conservation of Ignorant Stupidity:
Having a different opinion must mean you're a troll.
The game isn't of interest to me, and after reading posts from early adopters, why the fuck would I want to surround myself by these people and pay for the experience, and why the fuck wouldn't I want to voice that opinion on the message board I call home?

cause it's petty and your better then that (them)?
Yea, a comment like this is why I've been trying to distance myself from GW2 fans lately. The amount of "High Horsedness" is absurd.
Throughout that response all I could hear in my head was Paris Hilton saying all of it.

So in the words of Eric Idle: What do you (us, the gw2 community) got to lose: NOTHING!
