Just really tired of seeing hundreds of peoples' opinions delegitimized by accusations of trolling or whatever. It's not just in the gw2 forum.. it happens in all these forums. Don't agree with something someone said? Just do whatever to reduce legitmacy of the opinion of the poster. It's a ridiculous game to play.
No one's scoring points here for defending gw2. You don't get a free "easy button" or a private server for number of times you avidly make frothed-mouthed counters to naysayers of your favorite new toy.
I'd like to thank the OP for making this thread.
It really drew out some bad points in people.
Unsubstantiated claims, or posts just to involve flaming (as seen here).
Again, thank you, for showing me who to block ^^

I know that asthetics are a personal thing, but to say that SWTOR and Rift have better graphics than Guild Wars 2 strikes me as patently absurd. I really cannot imagine how someone can say that with a straight face.

So completely meaningless PvP. No sides. How does that dev mistake stiil happen in the 21st century? The PvP is the point. If you want a gear grind, your game is >>>>>>>
FFA PvP for the sake of FFA PvP doesn't work. I guess if your goal is initial box sales, and next quarter doesn't matter, then it doesn't really need to work though.
Now I haven't played. Yet as someone who likes a certain style of pvp, some things to say
-As in most games the class balance is way off. Tanks with heals are almost not worth trying to kill one on one. They do more dmg than they should. In an arena style game, you really shouldn't be doing one on one kills anyways. And the way you describe it, sounds more like fights actually last more than 20 seconds
-there does not seem to be ANY reason to pvp other than to kill other players and get pvp exp. With that exp you get chests of gear that will twink you a bit. I am only lvl 10 pvp so I don't know how much the gear elevates your toon at later levels. Certain classes just suck so read up so your not rolling that class. One thing about GW: they are constantly balancing after seeing how things play out. You really can't know what "sucks" or what works right now. But as far as there being no reason to pvp other than to kill other players, it's an instanced battleground that advertises the ability to jump right in and..... kill other players. Think of it like a skirmish mode.
-you change teams so your fighting a guy one instance and when you roll to the next one he is on your team. I don't like that at all. I want a bad guy to go after each run. Then go play WvWvW.
-I was up at 3 am to start pvping on Sat morning and on Monday night I have no desire to play the game. That is about as fast as that has ever happened.
-the graphics are not that great. Rift and SWTOR have better graphics and better pvp.
I have NOT done global pvp. All i have done are instances. If this were a subscription game I would have canceled it already. There are MUCH better pvp games out there. This isn't a bad game it just isn't good. I will keep playing it and hoping I find some pvp that is fun to play. I waited a LONG time for this game and it is not living up to the hype. My buddies are saying the same things. One is already back in Rift.
-In games with highly competitive pvp, you need at least 3 weeks after launch to really begin to see how the competitive part of pvp shakes out.

Well said and while it as you state happens in every game on the market if the fans of this game that frequent this site are any indication it will be mucch worse than most the other games on here.
The rabid elitist nature of this games fans on this site rival what I saw from fans of Darkfall in it's early days and this game has yet to even "officially" release it's kind of scary.
but as to the op isn't WvWvW supposed to be the main pvp in this game and you didn't even try it before commenting about how the pvp is ok...........

I see one of you, not 12 lol and as for High end rig... if you had a high end rig you wouldn't be having the issues you described. I have 2 high end rigs and a couple of mid ranged rigs. I'm playing on a mid ranged rig because I simply don't need to play on my high end rigs for GW2, getting massive FPS in WvWvW on mid ranged so why bother when I can play with everything on max and have it run great?

I think the pvp in GW2 is fantastic. both modes spvp and WvW. I am having a blast tbh.
I am running the game on a mid end laptop and runs smooth and looks beautiful. If you are using NVidia you might want to try the new beta drivers 306.02. And btw if you think Rif and Swtor have better pvp you are delusional.
-the graphics are not that great. Rift and SWTOR have better graphics and better pvp.
This part is priceless, specially about SWTOR having better PvP (and graphics, too).
I guess some people can't live without overpowered PvP gear (resilience or expertise) giving them a huge advantage against those who didn't grind for weeks or even months yet.

...or the PvP is the same crap every other MMORPG has in regards to arena/battlegrounds? WvWvW is just a really bad wannabe copy of DAoC, anyways. Next month we're going to hear about how 'empty' and 'pointless' WvW is because it's running around with a zerg, smashing doors, and going to the next one, ad nauseum.
bro, the rift has some good graphics, but it doesn't compre to GW2, The only things i hate about GW2 is the pvp and the writing/voice acting for Humans and Sylvari (don't know about the other races, these two seem to be the goody two shoes horribly cliche crap)
I'll agree with the pvp, fully, i dislike it. Not my cup of tea at all.
I will agree with the writing and voice acting - In GW2 its just really bad. In TSW the voice acting and overall writing was good, the combat wasn't all that great. GW2 its the opposite; Combat is ok but the voice acting is akin to watching my kids 2nd grade school play (only saving grace is that unlike the school play GW2 lets you skip through it :P ), and the writing is kinda generic/borederline amateurish.
But Anet did most of what they set out to do. The combat flows well in PvE (havent bothered with PvP - its just not my thing) and most of the classes are easy to get into and fun to play. This game will give a lot of people at least a good 2 months worth of PvE fun... More when you figure in PvP.

Yeah it is shiny and all, but I was kind of relieved to boot up WAR. GW2 seems like it will give me enough for my money but I'm not going to play it like a main mmo. I don't care at all how fast I learn the game or level up.
I don't like it as much as Warhammer. I don't see this changing.
With WAR I have a goal to work for that I care about. Maybe that is part of what is missing, but there are a lot of other things missing as well. I was very disappointed that I couldn't make my name appear above my character. I wonder if there will ever be an option to have your name displayed above your character.
Yeah. I'll stay subbed to WAR. GW2 is just the pretty good pc game I bought to play every now and then. I don't feel like GW2 is ever going to be worth spending any more money on, so I don't plan on ever using the shop.

It must take quite a while to beat down the keep doors with only 10 people playing :P
I'm enjoying GW2, it's very polished, but i'll still be raiding in RIFT.
I'm in absolutley no rush to smash through the GW2 content, for the first time in ages i'm stopping to smell the roses.
Awesome game so far.
Playing at 2560x1600 on 7970 the game is maxed out and smooth as a babies bum, awesomesauce..

And thats the great thing about GW2, you don't have to play it because of the voice in your head saying "must justify that $15 sub....". Play it when you want to and let it collect dust when ya don't. It will always be there for you when you wanna log in.

actually the priceless part is anyone that disagrees with you is wrong. My post mentioned NOTHING about pvp gear or an advantage but i will play the class that is hardest to kill. I think the graphics are better in SWTOR and RIFT but that is personal preference. Some people like WOW's graphics, I do not.

I had a very good laugh with this thread, thanks pal, gonna rest now because i really enjoy gw2 but i also enjoy sleeping. Keep up making hate threads using silly arguments.
-You roll a lvl 80 toon and have at it. This makes it so much easier than to grind a toon to 80 to find out that class sux in pvp.
-instances are easy to get into for now and the ques are instant.
Bad
-The pvp runs heavy. I have a very high end machine with a 15 meg connection and my mouse feels like it weighs 5 lbs
-As in most games the class balance is way off. Tanks with heals are almost not worth trying to kill one on one. They do more dmg than they should.
no. try to learn what the hell they are doing and counter it. learn their build and skills and figure out what the flaws are so you can counter it. just because you are so easy to read that they can block, evade, and buff themselves right before you attack doesnt mean theyre "too tanky," it just means you need to L2P.
-The game rolls from one instance into another and you stay with that group until players leave and new players enter in their place. It feels like a huge treadmill and the instances start to run together. If you hate a particular instance you are stuck dropping and coming into another group to avoid it.
-the game slows down in fights because of the lag and it frames a LOT more than it should. Not bad but too much.
i am running this game on a laptop with high settings and i am getting no lag in sPvP. time to buy a new computer :P.
-there does not seem to be ANY reason to pvp other than to kill other players and get pvp exp. With that exp you get chests of gear that will twink you a bit. I am only lvl 10 pvp so I don't know how much the gear elevates your toon at later levels. Certain classes just suck so read up so your not rolling that class.
no reason to play LoL or starcraft 2 either. oh wait, there is. having fun and bragging rights :P.

are you seriously comparing this game with RIFT pvp? LOL. all i had to do to pwn heads in rift was grab the best PvE dungeon weapon, copy the FoTM cookie cutter build with accompanying macro setup, and roll my face across the keyboard to win. to top it off the balance between classes was horrendous when i was playing (first 3 months).
Rift is not a better game than GW2 because it is a DIFFERENT kind of game. i will not lie, it is a pretty decent game for what it sets out to do (slightly different WoW clone).
if you need a gear treadmill to keep you happy and playing then guild wars 2 is not for you.

From my experience, the scenario PVP was alright, but there are some pretty glaring imbalances (looking at you, thieves.) WvWvW though... maybe I have just logged on at the wrong time, but every time I've gone in, it's been one world steamrolling with a force that outnumbers the others easily 3-1. Not very fun when it's just a zergfest.

Forgot where they mentioned it will be 1-2 months till they get the WvWvW balanced.
Right now on each server they are recording:
How many players.
What is the avg level.
How many PVP.
And so on.
Once they get enough data 'like servers' will be matched up for PVP.
I ll be the first to admit i really do perfer owpvp and one persistent world. Yada yada yada. Guild wars 2 has provided a great entry for my gf in to mmos. It is simple yet has the possibility of complexity. ( i have yet to get in to a lot of pvp). From the betas, the pvp seemed smoother than many others of the recent years. I am realistic, it may not be the best but it is still better than many if not all of the others currently out.

This is going to be a problem for GW2. A lot of people when they think pvp, they think of gear based treadmill with clearly defined pvp roles.
These people also tend to get roflstomped in games that place a higher emphasis on skill and tactics, and very fluid battles.
How GW2 brings these people into a system that is outside their comfort zone will determine whether or not the game becomes a huge success.
